Frederick back sooner than we think?

I thought if he goes on NFI or non-football injury list, he can be designated to return whenever after 2 weeks of practice. Since this wasn't an athletic injury, but similar to Eric Berry, Fred gets a better system to allow him to return at full speed.

Pretty sure they've said he can't go on NFI since camp is over.

Frederick is getting some of the best medical attention out there. Of course he is on day to day with this serious autoimmune disease but he has been playing with this for awhile now.

Easy fellas. Looney is going to go All-Pro this year and we’ll trade Frederick for a 1st round pick. Problem solved. Lives saved.

Glad to hear things are going good to this point, once doctors clear him then great but until then I would put this in the hands of the medical professionals and what is in Frederick best interest

The issue with the treatment for Guillain-Barre syndrome is that one of the main treatments is total rest. Even a workout could have negative effects on his recovery. Frederick is too important to the long-term success of the team, and Looney is having his best ever pre-season. If I was the Cowboys, I wouldn't risk Frederick's long-term health. I would keep him out at least the first 8 games of the season, and reassess in 2 months. It's great that Frederick wants to come back so soon, but sometimes competitive athletes can be their own worst enemies. Just look what happened with Romo in 2015.

I'm not ruling him out of week one.
I am not either. I said it before. He is young and strong and if he wants to play. This isn’t a broken bone or torn or pulled something. I am not sure a doctor can put a time table on it. It may go by how he feels. He said he is already gotten strength back. I don’t want him to rush, I want him to be healthy.

I just don’t wanna rush him back. I know there’s no guarantees, but maybe we SHOULD put him on IR, pick up a vet after cuts, and roll with Looney. If we can’t win 5 games out of the first 8 without him, we don’t belong in the playoffs anyway, IMO.
If his doctors and the training staff think he won't be ready by week 8, by all means put him on IR. However if they think he can be ready sooner than that there is no way I put him on IR. If he is cleared and ready to play, he needs to get out there.

But his doctors have to clear him. If you asked Fredrick, he'd probably play tomorrow. So you can't go by what he says.

You bet. Get him and the starters out there Thursday night against Houston and let's have a real dress rehearsal game. :muttley:
I don’t think Dak or Elliot or the O-Line will even be at the stadium Thursday. Lol

Same here. And the decision is ultimately his. And I would never want to rush him. But if he feels he can and is sufficiently recovered, I think he'll do his best to play. Like Martin, he's an Iron Man who doesn't want to miss games if it's at all possible.

If he’s already working out, he’s unlikely to go on IR. His quick progress is very encouraging.

This would be all kinds of awesome sauce.

But as someone alluded to above, I'd rather they be very cautious with him than the other way around, rushing him back because he wants to play. In fairness, I don't know what downsides there are to rushing back. In other words, this isn't like a hamstring where you come back early and reinjure it again because it never healed, right?

Don't mess with this one player...let him have free will and return when the decision is arrived at. Money be damned concerning his role with the Cowboys!
I agree. When it comes to football I could less. I hope he can recover and live a good life. His quality of life and family mean more to me than our offensive line.

I'm not ruling him out of week one.

I think he's the type of player who'd be willing to play through the pain, but I don't know if he can play through the muscle weakness and fatigue.

From what I understand, exerting himself will not make the syndrome worse (but I'm not a doctor so I could be wrong about that). Even when he recovers, though, he could still experience weakness, numbness or fatigue. The most serious weakness is usually experienced within two to four weeks after symptoms begin.

So much depends on how serious his complications are ... and at least for now, they don't look like the more serious ones.
