Cowboys have 19.3 million in cap space

If you've been paying attention know it never has been

The main objectives have been "staying relevant " while maximizing revenue with stoking the jones ego of being "football guys" a close second. Winning has not been a priority

There was a time when I thought Jerry cared about winning but looking back those days ended much earlier than I realized. Your assessment is fairly spot on but I would put maximizing revenue and keeping a larger percentage of it as the top priority now. It appears way ahead of anything else.

And if they spent all that money on FA players you would whine they were over paid and we do not have any cap room next year to sign our own players. Or other players to get better.

Perpetual rebuild mode.

The rookie contract formula has proven to work. You go all in when you have a qb on his rookie deal. What are you saving the $ for ? I don’t know about you but I’ve waited long enough 23 years.

I agree 23 years too long. But, other than Wilson, where and when has this formula been proven to work?

Joe Flacco

Ben Roethlisberger

The eagles, yes Wentz wasn’t the starter but he was still on his rookie deal, thus they didn’t have a huge contract tied up to QB.

And although they didn’t win the Super Bowl the 49ers were really good for a while with Kaepernick.

I think we’re going to see it with the Rams pretty soon.

Hey how about that news on Beasley's contract extension? That sucks, eh?

Why the bleep are we looking to extend him?
Simple: Because he is one of the quickest receiver in football, if not the quickest!! Hopefully this year Linehan and Garrett will expand his route tree beyond a 7 yard in and a 7 yard out. Our lame coaches allowed him to be double team last year with his predictable routes. Expand Beasley’s route tree and he will flourish this year.

I know what you mean. If only he would sped some money instead of hoarding it all. I mean, damn, we could spend some money on a practice facility or something....smh

The Dak "rookie contract" benefits were always going to be seen in 2019, 2020 and 2021. We needed to get out from under Romo's contract, we took a hit on Dez and have cleaned up a lot of restructured contracts (Smith, Witten, Lee etc). We're in a good position to keep Byron Jones and Lawrence in addition to Dak and Zeke and maybe make a play for Earl Thomas in 2019 (if not a trade).

We are set up to be a contender between 2019-2021 IMO.

How do we get to where the Jimmy Johnson led Cowboys were running Emmitt and opening a timing based passing game? Just the way Garrett is taking things now. The offensive line, even with Frederick in limbo, must and should still force the ball and in the red zone not being throw happy instead.

This offense is based upon the same principals for execution...both in running the ball now, and a timing based passing game that can well be handled by Dak Prescott.

Sound familiar? It should, with those familiar with the actual play during the dynasty started by Johnson and Jerry Jones.

Timing BASED passing game with Dak at QB :laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh:

Did you hear the one about the fat lady and the frog????

You know? Maybe this is an attempt to be able to sign ET next offseason? Instead of trading for him, maybe part of this cap space is intended to be used to sign him outright. If so, it's a smart idea.

They won't as Dak will do us all the luxury of well being Dak once again....checkdown charlie, panic pick 6's, panic fumbles, and running like his pants are on fire as his pocket awareness and down field vision are for the dogs woof woof....by Week 8 the talk here will be about which college QB we will be drafting....get ready for another season of the most BORING offense the NFL has to offer.....

I couldn't care less how boring the offence is as long as it's effective.

A whole bunch of teams are way under the cap.

It's like they're preparing to liquidate their franchises.

Next Offseason you will hear Dak Prescott signed a 4 year/100 Million Extension with 80M Guaranteed.

If that happens you better call the guys in the White jackets.

Maybe they are thinking to the future so the enough cap space to sign their player that are due contracts ....

And they haven’t done a single thing to improve the team. Seriously, all they are going to do is churn the bottom of the roster and keep Rush at backup QB? They deserve to have a bad year. People don’t want to hear it but money now rules every decision they make. Winning is not the prime directive.
He history of Jerry Jones has been to spend money and it got him nothing after the early years.
Its so false to make this sort of claim. At one time people laughed at Jones player contract excesses

it will be greater then that. Jerry would sign that one quick thou he'd negotiate for more years

That is a possibility with this schedule!

On Cole Beasley, I dont see why we would want to give a large guaranteed contract to a WR approaching 30 years old. Especially one who wasnt that interested in playing football in the first place. Think about all those players who sit back when they get their likely final large signing bonus.
