Unveiling the new offense against unsuspecting Carolina

We don't have a #2 that scares anyone so we still need to continue to overhaul the WR corp after this year. Even if Gallup is a #1, a lot of our receivers are probably gone in 2019 as well. So, Gallup, draft pick, free agent and Austin works for me. By then Noah Brown should be back as well, hopefully he can be our speedy #3 like Butler was for 2 years. Still gotta upgrade the TE position quite a bit too. This offense is nowhere near as finished as the defense is and if we miss the play-offs, it will probably be the reason why.

Or, Gallup could just be another good #2 receiver, and the Cowboys will need an upgrade in the draft a year from now. I like the Gallup pick in the 3rd round, but I also liked (and still like) the 3rd round selection of Terrance Williams.

My point all offseason is that we KNOW what the ceilings are for what the Cowboys have in the other receivers:

#2 wide receivers - Hurns, Williams
#3 wide receivers - Beasley, Austin
#4 wide receivers - Thompson, Brown
#5 wide receiver/special teams player - Lenoir

The ONLY guys on the roster that are unknown are the two rookies - Gallup and Wilson. We simply don't know. Hopefully, one of them becomes a #1 receiver. We'll find out soon.

So you'r under the opinion that you need a #1 receiver?

OK, 2 game under 20 points? Two games with fewer than 300? They had three games over 30 points. They had three games over 400. That how averages work.

The offense fell apart against LA? They had 30 points. Dak scored 3 TDs. The defense let Gurley go over 215 all purpose yards and and a TD.
Which is to say they were wildly inconsistent, so saying they were "around 30 points" is misleading.

They did all of their damage against LA in the second quarter. In the second half, they started Punt, Punt, Punt, INT (possession started at Dal 29) and ran just 15 plays - this is a death sentence in a one-score game. The Rams got two touchdowns on drives that went 29 and 19 yards, including the muff, but whether the defense gave up a bunch of yards or not, the offense failed to do anything on 4 straight possessions to start the second half while the Rams first 2 possessions only got them 3 points. You move the ball and get even a field goal, Dallas wins that game, especially since the Rams only scored 1 TD in the second half.

This has long been a problem for the Cowboys. The offense almost never does anything to compensate for the defense and often puts the defense in a bad spot. It's the same thing as the GB game, where Dallas scored 31 in a loss, and everyone blames the defense, but the difference maker was a pick-6.

I am under the impression that we have a lot of horses but nothing close to a thoroughbred unless Gallup is who I think he is.

What if I told you that Cole Beasley in 2016 had more yards than any receiver (or TE) for the Super Bowl champs last year?

What if I told you that Cole Beasley was basically erased last year and there's at least a decent chance he will not be back in 2019? He's never been that impressive, probably due to lack of size and straight-line speed.

Petty? You just got done suggesting Coaches be harder on him. He get's coached and all he does is whine. There's a reason he's not on a roster. His job wasn't to do anything but play football. His moods and meltdowns are not an excuse.

Not the kind of coaching im talking about and anyways Dooley should've gone back at him.

That was the problem with these coaches... Im glad you guys are focused on the 1 time he told the coach he didn't want to hear about how good the other teams secondary was.

Dez Bryant was babied by these coaches. He had to be hard on himself because nobody would go at him.

That's the reality of the NFL though.

Bigtime WR's aren't really winning championships. A bunch of solid WR's is all you should really need.

The only argument I can understand about needing bigtime WR's is that our coaches rely on talent and don't scheme well enough which I can totally buy.

if uncoverable with single defender is not that impressive to you, I wonder what does impress you.

Cole was erased because of team deficiencies last year that allowed defenses to allocate multiple guys to him. Its that simple. Any defense can eliminate 1 guy if they want \ need to. Question is can anyone else make them pay. Last year the answer was a resounding no.

A true #1 receiver makes it easier to win. Teams need a qualified #1 player at every position to play at their peak efficiency. That shouldn't be a controversial statement. Teams can get by without a true #1 position player, but it simply means that other players have to compensate for the deficiency.

Is it POSSIBLE that the Cowboys can compensate for the lack of a true #1 receiver by having two highly performing #2 receivers? Sure. But the history of both Hurns and Williams is that they are both average #2 receivers, not highly performing #2 receivers. That's why it is important for the Cowboys for Gallup to emerge as AT LEAST a higher performing #2 receiver in 2018. If not, then the Cowboys will have to make up for it other ways.

The Patriots compensated by having really, really good tightends, and employing more run-based offense. The Cowboys have an excellent rushing offense, but does anyone think they can compensate for a lack at the WR position with their current collection of tight ends?

One way or another, a #1 target will emerge. If it's Cole Beasley at the slot, that's not a good thing overall for the Cowboys.

What defines a #1? Obviously you are going to have someone with the most repetitions, but what is the percentage where you become #1 ?

Babied because that was his mentality. One time my ***. The guy was a nightmare.
Maybe, had he been a big person and listened to the viable and important information he would have done a better job vs. the top shelf corners?
Maybe, he would have received more than 60 yards vs. Talib? He was warned.
Maybe, if was more focused on what is taught he wouldn't have volleyed a pass for an INT instead of catching it.

The dude is a basketcase.

To be completely fair and objective, Carolina, too, will also have a new-look offense. People forget that Carolina's defense put them in the postseason a year ago.

Where CAR , and the rest of the league, is undervaluing us is on the defensive side of the ball, which is where the game will be decided.
