Dallas was always expected to take a committee approach at tight end. Blake Jarwin played more total snaps than Swaim in the preseason, but it's the latter who was graded above-average in pass-blocking at Pro Football Focus. Rico Gathers, who avoided being released following an arrest for marijuana possession Friday evening, is listed ahead of rookie Dalton Schultz. He’s officially the starter, but he’s not going to dominate playing time like Witten did. Others will play, and over time they will sort out playing time.

I’m not sure I agree that swapping second tier talent for third tier talent is what people generally mean by keeping defenses guessing.


They won’t have to guess because they won’t care who you roll out.
