Woah! 120% increase!! Players would beg for the franchise tag again. For Lawrence that would be like 37m for next year. No biggy, a minor oversight. I think it's 20% and you had the number right. It would probably be just over 20M. No way they franchise tag him again IMO.

Without the franchise tag, DLaw would be in his 2nd season of a new contract in 2019. If he has a career ending injury in 2019 playing on the 2nd tag, he walks away with 37M for the 2 years.

Khalil Mack will be in the 2nd season of his new contract in 2019. If he has a career ending injury he will walk away with about 84M for the 2 years.

It would greatly reduce the risk for the team to franchise him twice. Even a 3rd time at 28M would better for the team than the Khalil Mack type contract. Injury is a huge risk for a player than has had two back surgeries.

Look dude, I agree. If you ask me I don't believe any of these players should be getting anything guaranteed beyond their signing bonus. Earn the rest of it.

The owners did it to themselves. They started giving out signing bonuses and other guarantees to work around the salary cap. Now players/agents expect guaranteed money.

At least the contracts are not 100% guaranteed like in baseball or basketball.

Atlanta just lost a starting safety for the year.

Price could be going up.

They will trade him to Atlanta for a 2nd just to rub it in Jerry’s face.

I'm not sure the Falcons have the cap space, to sign him, the reason why thomas isn't playing is because he wants a new deal, and the Boys would be willing to give him one, ATL, not so sure

This FO pisses me off so much. Why did they wait until four days before the start of the season, just to give in and up their offer? Now they’ve left very little time for any kind of negotiations and even if they pull it off, he won’t be in game shape, hasn’t had any offseason activities to acclimate and won’t know the playbook.

If they were just going to cave in and up their offer the whole time, they should have done this months ago to get him into camp. They tried to play hardball and got called on it. I wouldn’t even put it past them to have planned the entire time on holding out hoping Seattle gave in with the idea that if they didn’t they would just up the offer at that point.

Well said. My thoughts exactly.

Guaranteed money (including bonus) is the trade off for the team being able to control a player for a length of time, yet still having the ability to cut them after a certain point and avoid having to pay the final years of the contract. In other words, if a team has all the control - for example, is able to control a player for 5 years if they choose, or cut the player after three years and avoid paying for years 4 & 5 if they choose - then the player is going ask for some assurance that some portion will be guaranteed. It ensures there is a commitment on both sides.

I assume they weren’t planning to cave in and up their offer the whole time. And for all we know, Atlanta may have been asking for a 1st rounder the whole time and Dallas just made one last ditch effort to see if Seattle would cave.

Let Atlanta trade a #1 round pick for ET. sarcasm
The Cowboys don't have to get him.

But it'll be 7-9 if they don't. And they know it.

Frazier won't get through this game. His shoulder will start bothering him. Then what?

I’m thinking the Cowboys think there is a reason to play the games and the outcome isn’t predetermined. They have been better than 7-9 without ET in the past.

Would anyone trade LVE for ET? I would in a nano second. I would be willing to give a #1 pick for ET. #1 picks are not always game changers folks. LVE is not a game changer. He won't even be starting. Maybe he becomes one someday but most likely he will just be average which is OK. ET has never been average. He is worth a #1 pick and it is not even close.
You do realize that if they trade him to Seattle he transforms into Brian Urlacher 2.0...

No way I give up a 2nd for him. I don't want whatever contract he is expecting to get.
