Let's think about this before we go firing Garrett

Touche'! It's too late for that but, not to late for a perp walk from the Star.
If they play the same way this sunday like the did in Carolina. Linehan may be gone. Garrett is already assuming some play calling duties. So. The writing is on the wall.

.... we go firing JG. A new broom does not necessarily sweep clean. Still a new broom is a new broom

The NFL is a cruel business that can stomp out a blooming bud before it has a chance to flower.

The cold fact was no more evident than in Week 1, as each team aiming for a fresh start with a new coaching staff stumbled.

Teams with new head coaches went 0-7 in Week 1, the worst recorded by a group of new head coaches in NFL history, per NFL Research. The previous worst was on 0-6 Week 1 in 2001.

Of the seven, four of those losses were by 10-plus points, including both Monday night tilts.

Let's run down the sadness:

Steve Wilks, Arizona Cardinals, 24-6 loss to Washington: The Cardinalsgot run over by Adrian Peterson, and Sam Bradford looked terrible.

Matt Nagy, Chicago Bears, 24-23 loss to Green Bay: Nagy's offense dried up in the second half, and Aaron Rodgers returned from injury to do Aaron Rodgers things.

Matt Patricia, Detroit Lions, 48-17 loss to New York Jets: The Lions failed in all three phases, couldn't slow a rookie quarterback and watched its $100 million signal-caller throw picks like there was a 2-for-1 sale going.

Frank Reich, Indianapolis Colts, 34-23 loss to Cincinnati: Andrew Luck looked good. The QB didn't get enough help though, and a Jack Doyle fumble-touchdown destroyed a comeback attempt.

Pat Shurmur, New York Giants, 20-15 loss to Jacksonville: Eli Manning threw a pick-six that ended up the difference.

Jon Gruden, Oakland Raiders, 33-13 loss to Los Angeles Rams: The Raiders took a 13-10 halftime lead on a smart offensive game plan. Then they did nothing in the second half.

Mike Vrabel, Tennessee Titans, 27-20 loss to Miami: In a game remembered most notably for its series of delays, the Titans not only lost Vrabel's first game, but it also saw Delanie Walker, Taylor Lewan and Marcus Mariota get injured. Woof.

My only hesitation with firing Garrett (and Linehan) is that Jerry & Stephen will hire the next guys. But who knows? Maybe they'll get lucky this time?

I'm not making a case of support for Garrett. I'm simply pointing out the ridiculous over-reaction that occurs based on one game, the first game of the year at that.
Well it's not one game, because the team looked exactly as offensively inept as it did last year, that's the problem.

If they struggled with a new system or were trying different things and it didn't work, then fine. But they didn't do anything different.

That was 9 years ago. He had 3 losing seasons in a row before last year. And that is with an unquestioned HoF QB. I guess Brian Billick deserves the benefit of the doubt since he won a Super Bowl.

What about the end of last season, what about the offense's ineptitude setting records last season? How many single digit games do you need before you see the light? Jeez some of you are just like JJ, fight harder to protect than to win.

We should make the move to fire Garrett and Linehan this week and elevate Richards to be HC. Let him identify and hire
a new offensive staff. Yes, it will take some weeks to build a new offensive scheme that might look similar to Seattle's
a couple of years ago. It's too bad that the Dallas FO is frozen in place and can't see beyond their noses. After the loss this Sunday, it will be time to think about tanking the season to ensure the top pick in the draft next year. There we might find our next Aikman if we are lucky.

Darrell Bevell was the Seahawks offensive coordinator and was also fired from Seattle's staff. I don't think he's working anywhere right now, but Richard is familiar with him and he could be an option. He was Seattle's OC when they went to those two Super Bowls.

Despite being the guy that called that nefarious pass play in the Super Bowl, I'd still take him over Linehan. He does know how to feed a monster running back.

Why is there so much defense and love for a guy who cant do it. As a human being we love JG. as the coach of another team id root for him, as our coach hes not going to do it. Why do the posters defend this man so much? What has he done to prove to you hes worthy of this? What do you need to see? He cant do it.

Well since its usually bad teams that get new coaches it not that shocking that these coaches lost their first game.

I'll take my chances.

Also these teams were beaten by good team. Do you think JG will be able to beat the Rams, Packers, Jacksonville

Most would not characterize Detroit as a bad team; not elite, but not bad. And most would say the Jets were a bad team that started a 21 year old rookie QB.

And, yes, I believe they could beat any of the teams you list.

Could beat? Or will beat?
Big difference. The Browns could beat the Patriots. Any team can beat any team.....but will they?

I'll take the chance just for the possibility that the new guy might be an improvement. After 8 years, it's clear exactly what you're getting with this guy. And what you're not getting.

Worst case scenario, the new guy won't be a distant relative and the hook would be quick, and we wouldn't be stuck in mediocrity for another 8 years.

Unless the new coach gets to also draft a QB the results will be the same.
