Let's think about this before we go firing Garrett

Why is there so much defense and love for a guy who cant do it. As a human being we love JG. as the coach of another team id root for him, as our coach hes not going to do it. Why do the posters defend this man so much? What has he done to prove to you hes worthy of this? What do you need to see? He cant do it.

I’m all for firing Coach G and replacing him with a more proven and experienced HC.

I’d even consider moving him up to GM or VP.

But mostly we need to give our next HC more control. And if we do that I’d be open to more even inexperienced up an coming coaches.

But if we’re going to continue with the current status quo of football operations I’m not sure.

Unless a better option is available, I'm giving the job to Richard. I know it's early, but he looks like the most capable coach we have already. And his influence is already being felt.

And again, I saw him calling plays in on Sunday. Never saw Marinelli doing that.

Darrell Bevell was the Seahawks offensive coordinator and was also fired from Seattle's staff. I don't think he's working anywhere right now, but Richard is familiar with him and he could be an option. He was Seattle's OC when they went to those two Super Bowls.

Despite being the guy that called that nefarious pass play in the Super Bowl, I'd still take him over Linehan. He does know how to feed a monster running back.

Yes, Yes...Dak is similar in design to the current Seattle QB and the scheme might work better with coaches that know how to run it.
Richards is working on his legion of boom in Dallas...What's not to like about that scenario.

This is the most off base post I’ve read on CZ, and that’s saying a lot. Jason Garrett is the primary reason this team has failed the last 8 years. We have one of the best personnel men in the business in Will McClay. Yet Garrett gets virtually nothing out of his players. He coaches not to lose and holds no one accountable. Next to the Herschel Walker trade and our Super Bowls, the next best day in Cowboys’ history will be when he is fired.

The scope for improvement this year is gone - we're stuck with the players we have. And it would be difficult to bring in new coaches mid season.

I think all we can do is fire Garrett now - as the HC the buck stops with him and it sends a message. We'd have to go with an internally promoted interim HC and the bulk of the existing staff for the rest of the year.

I'd make Maranelli the interim HC given he's been a HC before and will be retiring. I want the HC job to be vacant at seasons end. I want to think carefully about the next HC and have a clean slate rather than being under pressure to appoint an interim HC who's had an 'indian summer' as often happens in these circumstances.

Richards can step up to DC having full control of the defence.

I'm not sure about any of the recently appointed coaches. There must be a reason they all ended up as 'interim' position coaches on a coaching squad that likely wouldnt survive the season rather than better more secure jobs elsewhere.

I think we start searching for the replacement and do our homework on the candidates between now and January. The new HC must be given free range to appoint his own staff. All the current staff should be told they're auditioning for jobs elsewhere.

On the QB front, the front office should instruct that Rush and White both get some starts this season. We know what Dak is. We need to know if either of these QBs are worth keeping on the roster - give the incoming HC some tape to review.

I’d say if there was a move during the season Marinelli would be more likely the choice in an interim role.

.... we go firing JG. A new broom does not necessarily sweep clean. Still a new broom is a new broom

The NFL is a cruel business that can stomp out a blooming bud before it has a chance to flower.

The cold fact was no more evident than in Week 1, as each team aiming for a fresh start with a new coaching staff stumbled.

Teams with new head coaches went 0-7 in Week 1, the worst recorded by a group of new head coaches in NFL history, per NFL Research. The previous worst was on 0-6 Week 1 in 2001.

Of the seven, four of those losses were by 10-plus points, including both Monday night tilts.

Let's run down the sadness:

Steve Wilks, Arizona Cardinals, 24-6 loss to Washington: The Cardinalsgot run over by Adrian Peterson, and Sam Bradford looked terrible.

Matt Nagy, Chicago Bears, 24-23 loss to Green Bay: Nagy's offense dried up in the second half, and Aaron Rodgers returned from injury to do Aaron Rodgers things.

Matt Patricia, Detroit Lions, 48-17 loss to New York Jets: The Lions failed in all three phases, couldn't slow a rookie quarterback and watched its $100 million signal-caller throw picks like there was a 2-for-1 sale going.

Frank Reich, Indianapolis Colts, 34-23 loss to Cincinnati: Andrew Luck looked good. The QB didn't get enough help though, and a Jack Doyle fumble-touchdown destroyed a comeback attempt.

Pat Shurmur, New York Giants, 20-15 loss to Jacksonville: Eli Manning threw a pick-six that ended up the difference.

Jon Gruden, Oakland Raiders, 33-13 loss to Los Angeles Rams: The Raiders took a 13-10 halftime lead on a smart offensive game plan. Then they did nothing in the second half.

Mike Vrabel, Tennessee Titans, 27-20 loss to Miami: In a game remembered most notably for its series of delays, the Titans not only lost Vrabel's first game, but it also saw Delanie Walker, Taylor Lewan and Marcus Mariota get injured. Woof.
Is this Jason Garret posting? Shouldn't you be at practice

He wasn't able to do it when we first hired him.

I never got the JG love around here. I stopped posting for a long time because it was frustrating. You could see he couldn't do it, but he kept getting pass after pass. Now it's what, 8 or 9 years later and he still gets defended?

He should not have been HC to begin with.

For the sake of argument let’s say we do have a collapse this year which calls for wholesale changes.

Do you think the next HC is going to want to build around Dak?

And if Dak is part of the overall direction change then we’re basically admitting we’re starting all over which I don’t believe Jerry is willing to do. We’ll see.

"Mr. 0-16?" Ugh! No.

Besides, he wouldn't want the job. He's winding things down, not up. He's essentially passed the torch to Richard already and he's focused on what he loves most - his "Rushmen".

The last thing he would want at this point is the added burden of trying to coach the entire team, especially under the mess of an interim title.

Atleast they have the excuse of being new.

What Excuse does Garrett have?

I think if things go bad, Dak gets the chance to compete for the job with whomever is brought in. Nothing more.

True but that’s part of the defense. Jerry was an idiot for making him the “ future of the Dallas Cowboys”.

Once we recognize Jerry’s agendas then is more understandable why someone like Coach G is here.

And if you’d been following recently you’d know he’s been the #1 bashing on this forum.

Garrett lost the game week 1.

What's the point on; "oh but the new coaches lost their first game"

GARRETT LOST!!! , Your point is ?!

TBH I haven't been following. Like I said I got totally frustrated over the years and life things took precedent over watching JG look mediocre for years. I also knew Jerry was going to hold out and not fire him when he should to prove he was "right" about his coaching hire.

QB. I think whoever the new coach might be, if things collapse and Dak looks like this all year, whatever coach comes in will want to bring in another quarterback.
Correct!!

Which whoever was behind the decision to go with Dak should be gone. If that was Garrett the decision will be much easier for Jerry. And no new HC will want to stay with Dak.

Which means a complete start over basically. I just can’t see Jerry admitting to the mistake.
