JG's two winning seasons

The large majority of fans wouldn't know what a good scheme is if it hit them over the head like a brick. Yet, people continually criticize it like they have any kind of clue.

After the Giants game Sunday I'll at least have a hunch about this team.
It's a big game for both teams.
The one thing I'll offer is if Dak is a gamer he'll show up Sunday big time. If not well that says a lot.
Yep, Sunday will answer a lot of questions we had throughout the preseason and made more crucial after that last game.

I was referring to two winning seasons with Dak.

Dak's play wasnt' garbage his rookie year. And it wasn't as bad as past Sunday last year before T. Smith's injury and Zeke's suspension.

He was definitely garbage last year. He had moments of garbage play his rookie year. He wasn't good against PHI and we know NYG shut him down. They basically wrote the script.

3 winning seasons and only 1 losing season. Why is it so hard for some folks to be honest while hating? Maybe it's because it makes it harder to justify the hate.

I get that you hate Dak. That's not the point of my post. Even if we get a top pick QB, our offense will sputter unless our OL and run game is dominant using JG's scheme. Even Romo couldn't do it. I doubt a rookie QB would be better than Romo in his prime. Even if he's top pick.

Dak may not be the answer, but have no faith in our coaching staff in developing a top pick QB. Even if we did get a top pick QB, he would look like Goff did under Fisher. Does anybody really have faith that JG, Linehan or *gulp* Kellen Moore is capable of developing a rookie QB?

I'm just saying the plays are there to be made so I don't think it's scheme. It'd be one thing if defenders are sitting on every route and stuffing every run. If they don't get penalized so much in the first half they could have still won that game in spite of Dak's mistakes. It wasn't all on him but he was a factor.

Delay of game is on the QB. They were lined up in time. Dak was unaware of the clock. The holding and block in the back are on Tyron. Every coach in the league teaches proper technique. Players commit penalties, not coaches.

I think guys needed more time in preseason. I think the coaches own the personnel. I just don't think the scheme was the problem Sunday.

JG has had two winning seasons as the HC. 2014 season with Romo (12-4) and 2016 season with Dak (13-3). What do those two seasons have in common? We had both a dominant OL and a run game.

Before I go on, I want to point out
"THIS IS NOT DAK VS ROMO THREAD". I was a Romo guy and I've been supportive of Dak.
Unless you are blind, anyone can see Romo was much better passer than Dak.

Our bad offense is due to JG's crappy scheme more so than the who the QB is. Even great as Romo was he only had one winning season with JG as the HC. A season where we had a dominant OL and a run game. All the other seasons he could only get us to 8-8.

People forget, he had some very bad games during those three 8-8 seasons. There were several games where we only scored 7 points. And several games where we scored 16 points or less. And we all remember the mistakes at the end of the week 17 win or go home games.

I'm not pointing this out to bash Romo but to show, even as great as he was, he could not over come JG and his crappy scheme. Only time he could was when we had a dominant OL and a run game.

Dak could very well be a bum, but the fact remains, he has produced when he had a dominant OL and a run game. In order for JG's crappy scheme to work, you have to have both.

I think Aaron Rogers and R. Wilson are the only two QBs that could overcome JG's garbage scheme .

I couldn't agree more .. Blaming the players is easy .. But Garrett has gone thru at least 5 QBs ... It gets embarrassing .

Exactly ! Garrett is a career killer .

You are looking at just one game. I'm looking at 8 years. I agree though not playing some of the starters was just plain dumb. T. Smith, Lee, and Zeke all looked horrible. Zeke didn't play 6 games last year and he has two new OL starting. He needed to play.
Looking at All-22, he made some bad decisions. He also looked slow and his balance was off. He looked really rusty.

Can't believe T.Smith didn't block... Maybe he was coached that way, on those plays.

Op makes a great point. Jason needs a perfect storm. Jason isn't an asset. He is a liability. People always want to deflect blame. Blame a player or blame an oc or blame a dc or whatever. Granted these people are to blame in areas these people haven't been as constant as JG with the cowboys.

If its not JG, it could either be a combo of JG and Jerry or in the end just Jerry and the way he manages his team and the coaches he hires.

But you don't keep an HC on a job like this with this kind of a resume just because you invested too much time in the process just to let him go. It's a meritocracy. Romo is right. Same goes for coaches. What has JG shown to merit such a lengthy lackluster stay as a cowboys HC? Nepotism?

JG answers & has answered for 8.5 years; "we need to do a better job."

8.5 years to learn how to teach the players how to execute; but he can't do it .

He just hasn't figure out how to coach players how to execute . 'we didn't execute, we have a long way to go....'

really? after all this time he can't figure out how to coach players how to execute, and 'play well enough' ?

(& with the 'new players' excuse) why is it his counterpart HCs do 'a better job' at making the playoffs ?

Exactly. Well said. I've always wanted someone to stitch up video of his 7 years of HC press conferences of him saying the same thing over and over again. "Go back and look at the tape" , "get better in all three phases of the game", or same stuff about execution or process (even though it seems like that phrase isn't something mentions much anymore).

I swear he keeps saying they just need to get better but never do. It's like groundhog day.
