Do you get the feeling the players respect Jason Garrett? I don't mean saying they respect him if they're asked in an interview, of course they'd say that, but really have the level of respect for him as they should their head coach?
I do not and that goes a long way as to why his teams don't respond to his coaching.
I get the feeling that the shroud is getting lifted on JGs inabilities, starting with current and former players along with other analysts starting to publicly criticize him. Historically, seemed like there was always something or someone drawing the ire but no one ever seemed to blame JG. Romo was the usual scapegoat but I think a lot of have seen that Romo was actually making JG look a lot better than he is. Everyone was constantly repeating “Oh he’s a great coach, he was coach of the year, he’s an Ivy League guy, he’s so smart, etc, etc.” But now, for seemingly the first time, seems like he’s finally fair game for public criticism by players and pundits. Our players will start buying it if they aren’t already thinking it.
However, one thing I think I think is that every time we’ve gone into a game where losing would really put JG on a hot seat, we turn out a good performance and win. Then, the second his seat cools a bit, we go back to looking sloppy, unprepared, and undisciplined. Like JG knows how to do just enough to keep his job and then goes back to being terrible. But he won’t do his job the rest of the year. So I fully expect us to play a good game on Sunday and probably win because if we don’t and esp if we look bad again the clamoring for JGs head will hit a level we’ve not yet seen, one that will make even JJ uncomfortable.
