The Dak Prescott Thread **merged**

The bold is important. Yeah, I'd like better offense, but at least with the zero costly mistakes the defense is rested and ready to go.

And I thought he was reading the defense nearly perfect running the RPO and ran it himself at the right times.

I would like more 10-20 yard passes but we also may need better receivers in general. Not feeling Swaim at TE for anything other than run blocking. This shuffling of the WRs IMO doesn't help.

Thought the kid played well... 8/10.

Kept the ball out of harms way and took advantage of the Giants keying on Elliott.

Quite frankly what kept the passing yardage low was the pass protection which was questionable. Seems like there were too many "jail breaks" where Prescott had to get rid of the ball very quickly in order to avoid a sack. Those two back-back holding calls wiped out what was looking like the start of a productive drive.

Dak was 16 of 25 for 160 yards. So after that bomb to Austin which I thought was a great throw for Dak he managed 100 yds passing the rest of the game. He had 45 yds rushing which is good. These performances are not going to beat good teams. This game was just like that Commander game last year where Dak had 100 yds passing and the Cowboys win. Yes Congrats to Dak and the Cowboys and I am going to sit back and enjoy the win but this really doesnt change anything. Dak reminds me of Tim Tebow which is not good! The Cowboys must continue the search for a new QB.
I give Dak a C -

The WR personnel is kind of weird right now. Beasley is great and one of my favorite players but I preferred it when he was a second or third option. The receiver personnel just isn't as good.

But we're a running and defense team this year. I can live with that. Sure, it's not quite as fun, but we need to see more game time before we can decide how good or bad this team is.

First of all, he got better protection from the O-line. Second, a 20 point average isn't enough over a 16 game schedule. Third, Dak made better decisions probably because he had more time. I would rate his decision making an 8-10 or better. He missed a wide open Rico for a TD and Gallup on one play also. Overall, a 7.5 out of 10. Love what he brings with his legs and toughness to run. For that I give him a 10 out of 10. Where the h e l l did Allen Hurns go. Was he outside of the stadium running open all game?
The very neit play after he missed rico, Beasley was wide open in the end zone, and dak quickly dumped it off just to ensure we kicked a fg. Decision making is good , I guess if you have no interceptions.

Reality? We can pick apart every QB in the NFL for missing plays and judging their decisions. Unfortunately we'll never be able to sit down with them and say "hey, why didn't you throw to Beasely there" or we could say to Eli "how in the world did you miss a wide open Beckam heading to the end zone". We both know QB's aren't perfect. Personally, I've never played QB at any level so I don't criticize too strongly. It was a step forward for Prescott but this D better be special if we continue to put 20 points or fewer on the board. It would be great to have both click.

Playing qb is the most difficult thing to do in any sport, and while I would agree it may be. A little unfair to pick apart a player on every individual play, we can do so against the end of multiple games... and would you agree that a qb that consistently throws below the 200 yards threshold is a liability on any Offense? Look a the qbs that have won the last 10 qbs......Foley’s is exception(there is always an exception) you simply don’t get to, let alone win a sb with a qb that consistently puts up dak like numbers.

outside of 1 pass, he was less than 60% for 96 yards lol.

Amazing how a win will suddenly blind people.
True and I've been critical of Dak. What has allowed defenses to clog the middle of the field is the absence of sideline throws 10-20 yards downfield that forces the D to defend the whole field. Dak had two completions like that last night. He has also bad in 3rd and long and completed a pass that would have moved the chains except for a penalty.

The bottom for Dak is Tim Tebow or RGIII, but with this defense he only needs to be Trent Dilfer, not Aaron Rodgers or Tom Brady.

No Dez, No Witten, and few preseason reps. It is fair to give a few weeks for the passing game to gel.

Not a knock on Dak at all,

Dak is who he is and he was back to being who he should have been last week, IMO we win that game IF Dak would have been more decisive on when to run and made afew more plays passing, our D is holding up well enough, FOR NOW(seatles bringing in aguy that is Cam and Eli together, can run and throw , will be a challenge in itself, although Seatle doesnt have a Saquan or Mcarfrey so we need to key Wilson both as a Rb and a QB.he accounts for nearly 60% of their production but we played him well late last season....this game Dak was running decisively and correct RPO where he pulled properly out and ran, and threw well when give a clean pocket BUT HE IS A BES DRIVER, HE WILL NEVER BE MUCH MORE THEN A TYPROD TAYLOR TYPE.. Not knocking on him but he will be close to a 200 yard passer his entire career and we have to decide can we win like this..The oline isn't right, I hope it will Gel but I watched closely and Dak didnt have much of real pocket at all , it was rare not to have any pone on that line pushed back at the snap...2016 he had all day long to throw and was better because of it , now Zeke cant get going in the middle and with more stacked boxes we need to throw more but the line is getting shoved back A Lot.. if we can get the guys all going up front run better especially up the middle, we will score enough to win but anyone expecting this to be the 29-34 point barrage of Chunk lays, this isn't the offense, not in scheme, play calling, QB or skillset..its not built that way..

1. Game manager
2. played a clean game
3. Nothing spectacular
4. Nothing horrid either
5. Made a few reads and strong arm passes
6. Still needs a lot of work, he's just average at best
7. Dak will never single handily win a game for this team like other QB's can
8. I like Dak, but he's just not the answer. He's a bus driver.
Like Dak too, but he is not even a bus driver, I am beginning to believe his football IQ is not that of a average NFL QB I believe the playbook has been dumbed down for Dak thus the more Dak friendly we keep hearing about thus the limited play calling.

I thought this game sums up every single reason why I dislike Dak as our QB. We got the win, so that is great but the giants are a pretty shoddy outfit and even then it took us to the last 30 seconds to secure victory.

Dak make some big plays with his legs.. mainly because the defence was selling out to try and stop Zeke. Easy to look good running when there was literally no one in front of him because 8-9 men are on a run blitz on Zeke.

He missed some wide open throws.. including a clear TD to Rico. Against good sides.. that will be punished. You can't expect our defence to hold teams to a shut out for half a game every week or restrict the really good teams to under 14 points every week.. that is not realistic. I am happy with the improvement of our D, but you can't expect them to be perfect all game, every game.

Dak nailed one huge play to start the game, because we went in with our first drive planned based on Giants trying to stop the run based on last weeks performance.. we got a speedster to go vertical and Dak made the throw (which wasn't that difficult really) which is good.. but then Dak did NOTHING in the passing game for the next 60 minutes and we struggled. We had to settle for a FG when the defences gave us the ball back on the 26 yard line FFS! That isn't going to get the job done against the top sides.

So tonight I would give dak a solid 7/10 and admit he was very competent in his role and just like 2016.. we can win a lot of games with him as a bus driver and Zeke and the D doing the rest. My bigger issue is what happens when we come up against good defence and we get restricted like last week.. can Dak win us the game off his arm? I don't think he can and that means he cannot be our franchise QB.

Daks timing was better, and he made the big throw to drive the dagger in the Giants heart.

I do wonder how much time Dak spends with his receivers prior to camp? I’ve heard stories of Brady working with receivers ljke Edelman in the offseason to get his timing down. It seems like Dak needs more time with these guys.

When we have an offense our defense is never good enough to get us the stop in a close game. Now that we have a defense I worry that our offense will not have enough firepower to pull through when the defense gets the stop for us in a close game. However, Dak seems to have the laser focus intangible in close games. He impressed me his rookie year against Pitts, Eagles (in Dallas), and GB.

It's true, you could argue we made the same kinds of mistakes against Carolina and lost because Carolina isn't a horrible team. Given that the Giants were selling out to stop the run one would think that Dak should be able to throw for more than 200 yards.

I saw some intermediate sideline throws last night that give me some optimism for improvement though. It's a whole new WR core and they didn't get a lot of snaps in the preseason so we should know a lot more about where this offense is really going to be by week 4 or 5.

Dak did fine against a team i thought were average but turned out to be poor. The decision regarding Dak will be made at the end of the season. Only then can we decide if he is capable of getting the boys to the big dance at the end of the season. And that is all that matters in the end, can Dak take this team to a superbowl.
As an aside Kris Richard's work on defence is already bearing fruit.

The Legion Of Boom is dead. They gave up 27 points, 329 yards and 3 TD's to Case Keenum last week, however, I am by no means underestimating playing them in Seattle but they simply aren't the team they once were.

I wasn’t talking about now, because the post was in response to Seattle winning with Russell Wilson with defense.

I just realized my haD was written as a haS, so that pretty much caused confusion.

It was probably also a scripted play, meaning they practiced it and were going that way. If anything Austin also totally shook his man and the safety coverage was Obviously not playing the deep pass, so he came late. It’s not as if he made a read and adjusted to the coverage at the line. Teams primarily just crowd the middle now with Dak, because he keys in on the short middle. The pass where the Giants DL was an example of this. It should have been basically a pick 6.

And the Cole Beasley throw to the outside should have been a pick too and an example of his throws to Dez in the end zone last year as well. He simply doesn’t throw those balls well.

During the game, you don’t see him really adjust to anything, unless it’s him in the read-option and the team is really keying in on the run, like the Giants did run-blitzing at the end, trying to make something happen.
