Dumbfounded, perplexed, and confused by the lack of interest in Dez

Good save, lol.

Here's another thing. It's fairly common his route running is not only limited, but he didn't really put a whole lot into it. So after a 3 season fall off, why would the phone be ringing off the hook? Especially when you add in his attitude and antics into the mix.

And I know some fans on this forum who will tell you tits on a hog are not useless.
I meant a boar, but I blew it.

I think Dez is worth a game-by-game check. Some of these teams are employing gawd awful receivers. Oakland could definitely use him. So could the Patriots have, obviously. Carolina, Green Bay, New Orleans, Chicago...there are teams that could use Dez if he'd compete for the ball in the air like he used to.

He's a pain, but you can cut him after one game if you want.

The point is, you can't be an oaf who can't run routes and be as useless as tits on a hog and accidentally score more touchdowns than anyone in Cowboys history not named Emmitt Smith.
Yes, EROD, you can. If you have a QB who has no one else, a bad OL, and you are forced to throw the ball up quite often, you can.

Also, look down the list. There are many, many players who were done around the age of 30. Ochocinco, for one.
And Dez has the 2 facets that often makes players done early: Lack of speed and poor work ethic.

Sandlot football isn't predicated on route trees and the nuances of running a route. What he and Romo played was the NFL version of sandlot.

Ian Fitzimmons, who has been plugged in to college ball from way back reported that, while at OK State, the coaches made sure that Dez was always lined up on their side of the formation so they could tell him where to run.
Well done.

That is a huge part of what made Dez successful. Romo was forced to work w/ him and found ways to do so. It took extreme effort.

Fitzsimmons didn't say that. That was already widely known.

Ian Fitzsimmons is the biggest blowhard in the history of sports talk radio. Rattles on about nothing, LOVES the sound of his voice, and takes any crappy job they send him to. Plays his "my brother is a coach" card at every turn. Rant over. He just really, really blows.

I agree largely about your sandlot point. Dez is limited, but he was really good at that one thing he did for a long time.

We've all been hard on Dez at times. We've also lavished him with praise at other times. He's certainly an enigma wrapped in a mystery inside a puzzle.

I supported his release, but I also winced in the process. I knew he wouldn't react well, and I fully expected a feeling out process from the rest of the league.

But there is no way in Hades I thought he'd be sitting at home on September 20th after Week 2. Not a chance in the world.

Just how bad was he in the locker room? What is out there that apparently none of us know? I'm watching 31 other teams ignore his availability without an offer, outside of a made-for-Hard-Knocks meeting with the Browns.

Corey Coleman has been traded and picked up twice. Josh Gordon is making the rounds. BRICE BUTLER was signed here. Several other receivers are getting released and picked up.

How is Dez not paired up with Rodgers in Green Bay or Brady in New England? Those guys and a few others can deliver the type of throws that made him so successful here for so long. Dez is a touchdown-scoring machine with back-shoulder and high-point throws on target.

Meanwhile, crickets on the Dez front. Still.

I'm sitting here thinking, shoot, $2 million for a one-year deal? Bring him back. If nobody wants him for cheap, the Cowboys aren't risking anything by bringing him back in the fold. You can release him if it's not working for nothing because it's a game-by-game payout now.

I repeat, what is out there that we don't know?

Those All-or-Nothing videos did Dez no favors. He looked like a petulant, out-of-control child at times. But Dez is a gamer, too. While he might have a route tree that looks like a Charlie Brown Christmas tree, there's no question about his passion on game day, which is mostly good and sometimes bad.

If you're not strapped to him with a big contract, where's the risk? I just don't get it.

What do we not understand?
Doesn’t take a rocket scientist. He’s a cancer in the locker room.

Maybe it was widely known and reported. I'm not a big college fan - can't remember the last time I watched an entire game so I also don't pay much attention to what's going on it college ball. But I can say unequivocally that I personally heard Fitz say it. Maybe he was simply repeating what someone else said, but YES, he did say it from his mouth to my ears.

And, yes, he was good at the sandlot because of his physical skills. But it's tough to find another team and QB that play that - Aaron Rodgers maybe, but I'd say his predecessor was more that. Rodgers is also known for jumping on players that err; I don't think that would set well with Dez which probably has some bearing on him not being in Green Bay.

Semantics.

You're trying to figure out why he isn't signed. You're looking at the wrong things. And it's very simple. Route running, refusal to rehab from injury, very questionable attitude, possible locker room cancer, his antics since being cut.

Agree to disagree, I think that the Cowboys timing of his release hurt him and you don't.

I love Dez but it was the right decision to cut him. When's the last time you can even recall Dez having a good game against a good corner? The last one I can even think of was against Richard Sherman @ Seattle in 2014.

When was the last time he had a competent passer throwing him the ball? 2014.

I'm not denying Dez has regressed some, and I don't blame this all on Dak.

I'm just saying....1 year for $1.5 million or so? You can cut him anytime and owe him nothing more? Seems like he's good enough for that. He's not the worst receiver in football for crying out loud.

But there's something else. Just can't figure out what it is.
What about how he's a can in the locker room?

It was part of his draft profile. Very widely known.

The dude hit his mama.

I'll say this for Dez. Nobody lived a more difficult childhood from a family standpoint than Dez Bryant. It's really pretty amazing that he managed to get himself into a position to screw up in the NFL in the first place. I would have never drafted him. He was better and more successful than I ever thought he would be.

That's a fair enough assessment.
