For those complaining about is Dak this or is Zeke that or is the play calling only good in certain situations, Pro Football Reference can settle this.

This is the link to Daks Stats at 3rd and 8 or more the last 3 years. 20% have resulted in 1st down.

Using the play index you can find any type of stat you want then do manual comparisons to other players.

How does 20% compare to the rest?

You think you can summarize football with conflated number gymnastics?

I'll stick with watching the actual games.

It’s called situational football. Not every passing play is the same. People like Spags would have you think all 62% completion percentages are created equal.

If people are interested you can find out more than just a total stat line

Exactly 3rd and 8 is 34% but it drops from there for 3rd and 8 "or more".

But those stats are crap, too.

3rd and 6 in the 1st quarter isn't the same as 3rd and 6 in the 4th.

3rd and 6 up by 10 is not the same as 3rd and 6 down by 21.

3rd and 6 on your own 5 yard line is not the same as 3rd and 6 at the opponent's 10.

3rd and 6 against Philly is not the same as 3rd and 6 against Buffalo

3rd and 6 with a perfect throw down the seam is not the same as a 3rd and 6 swing pass behind the line of scrimmage.

3rd and 6 in perfect weather is not the same as 3rd and 6 in the blinding snow.

3rd and 6 against an all-out blitz is not the same as 3rd and 6 against a soft zone.

Stats. Tell. Almost. Nothing.

I’ve had the PFR link stickied for years. It’s the best go-to source for easily-referenced raw stats.

However, the problem with using it to directly compare players is that there are too many situational variables (different teammates, opponents, systems, play-callers, etc) to make realistically accurate comparisons of players — especially from different eras.

Great site, though.

Eli had a higher QB rating Sunday than Dak.

Who had the better game?

That sums up stats perfectly.

Key message, which we've heard over and over again, stay out of long down and distance. I didn't go to the link but I suspect that holds true for most QB's and particularly for young QB's. Since the crash against the Falcons last year the O-line has struggled in both run and pass blocking. The O-line played a bit better last week and there was an uptick in both Dak's and Zeke's game. 2/5ths of the O-line is new same as last year and when Tyron went down in 2017, 3/5ths of the line was new.

Fans have a hate on for Dak because he replaced the immortal one. Deal with it! We can win with Prescott as QB this year as long as the O-line does it's job. Here's a stat for you..... 18-1 when we don't turn the ball over by interceptions and fumbles by the QB. 5-10 when we do turn it over. Heck, I bet you could equate that to down and distance too. As 3'rd down distance increases so do interceptions Duh! Resally, you mean the defense pins their ears back and rush full out on 3'rd and 9. Like I need to see stats to know that

How do you think teams come up with substitution packages and situational changes in scheme? By relying on their eyes?

The NFL has been ahead of the curve on applying analytics and statistical analysis to their play. QC coaches and analysts use this sort of data to better attack a defense or defend an offense.

But, hey, if they watched the game instead, they would be able to do this better.
