We were 3-0 in 1999 and looked good until Irvin got hurt. The dynasty ended when Irvin got hurt and his career ended.

I remember that like it was yesterday. Was a freshman in HS. Was at my uncle's house. Those Eagles fans cheering as he laid lifeless on their concrete they called turf. Pathetic. We never recovered from that. Lost that game and barely snuck in the playoffs on the last day with lots of help. Vikings beat us pretty good in the wild card round.

For me it ended in 1997.

The Cowboys were 6-6 and headed into Green Bay, a team the Cowboys had absolutely dominated for 4 years.

Dallas got absolutely thrashed by the Packers 45-17. Dorsey Levens ran nearly 200 yards and Favre threw 4 TDs.

It was the first time since 1988 the Cowboys has given up more than 40 points to ANY opposing team -- a pretty incredible run.

Cowboys lost every game after that and ended up 6 and 10 for the season.

That game, for me, marked the end of an era. I knew there would be no return to the glory days of 92-95.

From my recollection, I would have to say a couple of things:

• Erik Williams crash
• Michael Irvin legal problems

It was headed that way anyway with the departure of Jimmy, but I felt we could have squeezed out 1 to 2 more super bowl wins at the very least appearances.

I remember Irvin talking about the loss to Carolina and he said they were tired of winning. Tired because when you go to the Super Bowl that is almost a 6 month grind. He said the team was just tired.

This is true... people don't remember how dominant Williams was. It was the beginning of the end...

It ended when Jerry fired Jimmy. However, Jimmy had so much impact, it managed to carry on for two more years.

When we lost to the 49'ers in the NFC championship game in Jan 1995, after the 1994 season. The torch was passed to the 49'ers for the rest of the 90's. The Dallas dynasty ended, the 49'ers dynasty began. Hate the 49'ers. We did manage one last gasp against the Steelers but you could see it ending. The first two SB wins of the 90's were dominating, the last one was a gift from O'Donnell. All downhill after the last SB win after the 1995 season. The 49'ers dominated the remainder of the 90's

So you say it wasn’t Jimmy leaving? Ok,take a look at the drafts from ‘94 -‘97. Out of the following 4 drafts they came away with a pathetic total of 4 players. Larry Allen,Randall Godfrey,Dexter Coakley and Omar Stoutmire. Oh and their first picks in each draft? This is the best part.
‘94- Shante Carver 1st rd
‘95- Sherman Williams 2nd rd
‘96- Kavika Pittman 2nd rd
‘97- David LaFleur 1st rd.

THAT’S why they took a nosedive.

It's not like Gonzalez was available. Kansas City was ahead of Dallas in the draft.
They wanted Gonzalez... worked out both players... even had Aikman throw to them.
Aikman did sign off on both. LaFluer had a back injury early in his career.

When Jimmy was hired he wrote down when his exit day would be in 5 years. When that day finally came and Jimmy and Jerry parted ways things weren't ever the same and the Dallas Dynasty was over.

For me the Carolina loss was the final nail...but When Michael got hurt...yeah...that was in retrospect... the end. The whole organization was never the same. Jerry has tried literally a hundred different ways to get back that mojo...and he hasn't even come close. Jerry is a corporate schmo that has never got the football side of putting together a team.
