Earl was a good solider in all of this until the very end but his fear happened and had they just traded him he would've got the money.

Good soldier? He's been spitting in the face of his employer since the day he chased down Garrett in Jerryworld. From a business perspective, he did just about everything wrong if his goal was to get a trade. If he was following his agent's advice he should fire the clown yesterday.

Let's see...I think it's time to move on after years of service. I want my boss to trade me, preferably to Dallas. How should I go about it? I'll request a meeting with him, explain my position on the issue, and make my case? Nah! I'll publicly embarrass him, holdout, refuse to practice, then give him the bird. Sounds like a plan. :muttley:

This is clown mentality. Okay so when a player is underperforming the team has no right to cut him early right? After all they signed him to a contract
So what exactly is the point of even having a contract? Maybe they should pay players on a game to game basis. A team guarantees a certain amount of money to a player based on their current/recent performance and the player understands he has to keep that performance in order to get paid. The teams take plenty of risks due to injury and guaranteed money.

A player outperforming his contract doesn’t give him a right to sit out or demand more money prior to his contract being up. He’ll get an increase in pay when he goes to FA if he’s still playing that well. He’s also still getting paid to sit on his rear, why should the teams have to pay for that?

Kind of a shoulda, coulda, woulda at this point. I read the bird was @ the hawks coaching staff...as for him being a cowboy, I'd have to say that's a no, but after watching Heath get stood up, or slipped down like a prom queen yesterday, I'm not so sure a 1 legged ET isn't better then a 2 legged heath at this point!

If Thomas misses the rest of the season, as expected, he will have missed 20 games over the last 3 seasons. That's over 40% of them (48).

I get the desire to upgrade the safety position. But backing up the Brinks truck in 2019 for 30 year old Earl Thomas, coming off another injury, has "bad investment" written all over it.

he didnt want to play this year under current contract , he did but now hurt so in a way he got his way, he was done with seatle in the offseason..he now gets to heal, rest, and get paid while awaiting the ET money..its not a major knee injury..its fracture Bro..means nothing he will get ET money more now then before because no draft picks are involved..
again - his risk, his problem. flipping off seattle was totally void of any form of class.

Incentive laden contract for him is still worth it.

Glad that awesome person is still theirs. He is under contract and didn't get what he wanted and turned into a petulant child and now he can sit out with the same break he had two seasons ago and hit FA in March.

I do not get this empathy for him. He was under contract and getting paid and every player risks a season ending injury whether it is their contract season or not. I do not have one ounce of empathy for him because of how he's handled himself beginning in Dallas last season.

That pic of him flipping his own sideline off speaks volumes about the character of this guy. I don't want him next year either.

Injuries are such a big risk, esp with aging players. We lucked out into not giving a 2nd round pick and untold guaranteed money to this guy this year.

Who cares about Earl Thomas? So many people all over wanting him this year...Personally, I don't want him at all but my feeling is if anything, lets chill out and see what happens next year once his contract is expired... We can probably get him on the cheap next year...

Its the same bone he broke in 2016 (left tibia). Bones degrade as they sustain multiple breaks in same area. Tony Romo had a similar problem. Thomas is damaged goods now and his next contract is likely 2 year deal for $6-7 million year. I don't think he will accept it but age and injuries are cryptonite for NFL players.

This is not really true.

Just like NFL owners/GMs should when they sign a contract with a player... oh wait... teams can cut a player before his contract runs out? You don't say.

That's BS. Teams must honor the contracts just like the players.

They can't just cancel a contract because they changed their mind down the road, and they can't change their mind and decide to pay less if the player is underperforming.

Option years are optional. The player agreed to them when he signed the contract - probably because the option years meant he was offered a higher salary or more guaranteed money.

He was more than capable of signing a contract for a shorter duration with no option years at the tail end, but he wanted the larger salary that came with locking up his services for longer (if the team chooses to keep him that long ).

Players whining are wanting it both ways.

I liked Thomas up until he took a bow in front of the Cowboys' bench last week.

Now I'm starting to believe in karma.
Earl’s a UT grad. I really think he could be a Cowboy in the future. We just can’t overspend.

He won’t.

He’s going to get paid by somebody. Injured or not, he’s all pro and legit. Only takes one team to pay you
That is very true
I don’t expect any home town discounts and that’s the issue I have with him
He’s a great player but he’s getting some age on him and been injured lately
Do you pay him or just draft a guy
