A lot of the time the WR looks like he didn't get open because the ball came out late. When the ball gets there the defender is there to make the play. Its the NFL, windows are small, the ball needs to come out faster.

Dak needs to see the receiver open. He does not throw guys open. Dak also lacks arm talent.

If we cannot dominate in the run game that is what our offense will look like. Awful.
You Sir should get a prize. This is exactly what is happening. No accuracy, No anticipation, No pocket awareness. I've said this before you have to be wide open before he'll turn it lose even then he'll throw it low or high no run after the catch. No anticipation is what's causing the late throws In the NFL if you have a step your open.

Tebow was overall a bad QB, I am not going to dispute that.

But to be fair he did throw for 316 yards, 2 touchdowns, and a 125.6 rate that game. And the Broncos put up 29 on a top 5 defense that only gave up 14.2 points a game during that regular season. Even a blind squirrel finds a nut every once in awhile.

He completed 10 passes. The WRs did all the work. I don't think he threw a ball further than 10 yards.

If he puts up 200 yards and 2 TDs they win. It is not about yardage, yardage numbers do not tell the whole story, look at matt Stafford or any other QB that throws for a ton of yards. The key is effective passing. I would settle for about 200 yards a game if they are effective. 3rd and 5 and throw a 4 yard pass that gets stopped right away because you were off target not effective passing. Throwing passes that lead your receiver into a tackle, or limits their YAC not effective passing. I hate Cam Newton but yesterday he had an effective day passing, he did not throw for a ton of yards or ton of TDs but his throws put his team in position to win.

But he's not effective, either. It's a passing league, and we don't have a guy who can consistently deliver the ball. Teams are loading up against Zeke, and he isn't making them pay.

Dak is our Flacco and we're gonna be stuck with him and his mediocre play

Unfortunatley we didn't win a Super Bowl during the only great run of play he'll likely have as a starter

So was it wide receivers now? Or is it still the defense? Am I going to need a score card to follow all the reasons being brought up? Is this going to be a situation where everyone but him is the reason they won?

He still threw for 316 yards with 2 touchdowns. He also ran for 50 yards that game. Overall he was part of 366 of the teams 447 yards against a top 5 defense.

I agree he is a bad quarterback, but for that day he took care of what he needed to. It happens.

A few points to ponder:
* we are a running team with a ton invested in the OL and RB. We were ineffective in the run game.
*Both interceptions hit the wrs in the hands.

*Dak Bashers....at this point in Romo's career...he was still carrying a clip board and didn't start his first game until a few more weeks.

It is a travesty how we have given this young qb nothing to work with. I fear we are ruining him with the crapshow we have surrounded him with.

The second pick didn't hit him in the hands. The defender reached through and deflected it because the.ball was thrown late because Dak has zero anticipation.

I 100% agree. In todays league it should be easy to get over 200 yards maybe even 250. But you are correct Dak is not effective passing.

Both INTs were on Dak. Yeah the receivers could have bailed him out but that doesn’t put the TO on them. Our receivers are horrible and they aren’t good enough to bail out a bad QB very often. It is what it is.

But let’s put that aside. It’s not lazy analysis to say Dak is a bottom 5 starting QB. The film proves it. The next gen metrics prove it. The stats prove it. The eye test proves it. And so on. At the end of the day there are 32 starting NFL jobs and just about every starter in this league is better than Dak. But there’s probably not a single backup better than Dak. So he’s right around the 29th to 32nd ranked QB in the league. That should mean his days as a starter are numbered because once another rookie class of QBs enters the league Dak will fall to backup quality. I was as hopeful at one point as anyone that Dallas had found a steal at QB. But time has shown that not to be true. As time moves forward Zeke and the OL will decline even more making Dak’s deficiencies even more apparent.

You cannot throw high passes to small WRs and expect them to catch them on a regular basis...thinking it will happen is an exercise in futility and insanity.
You cannot continue to throw passes behind WRs and expect them to catch them on a regular basis...thinking it will happen is an exercise in futility and insanity.
You cannot continue to completely turn your back away from the offense to spin around and hope you will escape and magically make a downfield throw on a regular basis...thinking it will happen is an exercise in futility and insanity.
You cannot continue to not step up into the pocket and make a throw instead of scrambling around on a regular basis...thinking it will happen is an exercise in futility and insanity.
You cannot just decide to throw down the field once or twice a game and expect the passing game to be open on a regular basis...thinking it will happen is an exercise in futility and insanity.
You cannot expect to run as well against all teams, as you did against the lions who had one of the worst rushing defenses in the league...thinking it will happen is an exercise in futility and insanity.

Dak had one of the, if not the best, rookie seasons for a QB in NFL history. However, and this is an indisputable FACT, he has went down hill since.
I have been doing the Random stats threads every Monday for the last few seasons. In his Rookie year Dak was always in the top 3, if not number one overall, in PCt and Total QB Rating.
Last season that number went down.
This season so far he has been in the bottom half of the league.

We do not have the best WR corp in the league. We do not have a HOF TE anymore.

However I make a challenge to anyone on here to be honest with themselves.

IF we had a good QB on this team like a Rodgers or Brees...I am pretty sure we would have better passing numbers, better TD numbers, betting scoring numbers and we would have won at least one more game.
However I say to anyone willing to be HONEST with themselves...if the Saints or the Packers had Dak...would they be better off at QB? Would the WRs on those teams have even remotely as good as numbers in yards, tds and scores?
It is an opinion but I think if we were truly honest the answer would be obvious that Dak would not be the answer.

One more question.

During his rookie year this might have been a very different answer but as of right now.
How many teams does anyone believe would trade their QB for Dak straight up right now. (not teams that lost their starter and playing a backup now)...Starting QB traded straight up for Dak right now.
I think the answer would be very few if any right now.

That should tell you all you need to know about the current condition of the starting QB for the Dallas Cowboys.
Again can't disagree more. I've just seen to many bad passes that other WRs on other teams are making all the freaking time! You can't tell me every pass Dak has thrown is over the head and high or out of place for these WRs...that's just BS. His last INT hit the receiver right in the hand.....and he whiffed on the catch! Other WRs are catching balls like this time and time again and ESPECIALLY for the QBs you named. Plenty of Awesome catches Rodgers and Brees wideouts are making! And when was the last time you even seen a Cowboy WR be OPEN....let alone Wide open???? Watson was throwing to Wide open WRs all freaking night!!!! :Hell, give Dak some of those wide open shots and then lets compare. So again....you put the blame of Dak.....fine....I'm putting it where it belongs.... on a less than competent and vastly mediocre receiving corp.

The truth is that everything is wrong with the Cowboys, and that goes back to the leadership - coaching, and ultimately the owner/GM.

I mean, for the sake of argument let's just write off Dak entirely. What I struggle to understand is where people think they're getting somebody who can be an instant savior to this franchise right out of college, because these coaches sure as hell aren't going to develop them or gameplan to give them the best chance to perform. And apparently having receivers and tight ends isn't a priority either.

The Tebow comparison is telling because Denver knew not to stick with him forever... but in the meantime they did everything they could to adapt the offense to his limited skills, and that made them a playoff team instead of an open septic tank like the Cowboys.

WUT??? Did you watch the video?

10 passes, 316 yards, that's over 30 yards per completion. Many deep shots. That last play was 18 yards in the air and was one of the shorter ones.

Can you honestly name a number of teams (not starting backups right now) that would trade for Dak Straight up right now?

Let's be real. He struggles to put up 200 yards and 2 TD in a game, which are pedestrian numbers. He is a slightly more accurate version of Tim Tebow at this point.

Comparing to Tebow is a low blow.
Dak is a lesser Alex Smith. I am sorry to say that. He is a great backup and below average NFL starting QB.

Someone that is actually writing the truth. Dak is solid but he is not going to take us to the promise land. It will be interesting to see if he gets an extension.
Solidly below avg. Only works if you have the 85 bears defense.

Dak doesn’t suck...but he’s also not in the small % of QB’s that are franchise QB’s who have a good chance at winning a SB.

I’d rather chase that franchise QB and have hope for a super bowl than stick with Dak
Man same way I felt about Romo. The only thing that gives me a good feeling about dak is he doesn't turn the football over, and makes good decisions.

We had the 85 Bears defense in 2016? Give him credit he was good that year. Top 10 Qb. 2018 he is a bottom 10. He needs talent around him because he is not special. Jerry is going to get him a TE and WR next year but not an extension.
