Remake
John Carpenter’s The Thing

I personally disagree with the label of Horror placed on some movies. Certain films fit more in my definition of Suspense, Thriller or a combination of the two genres. Others can say one of my next, more recent favorite horror movies is more suspense or thriller. I will be the first to say I understand why they say it is not horror but it is in my book:

World War Z

For Halloween type horror movies, I gotta go with the standards

Halloween
Friday the 13th
Nightmare on Elm Street
Scream
Night of the Living Dead

It or Hey, stop clowning around.

And Scream might fall into DE's suspense/thriller mode because there is no supernatural element to it but it's still a hell of a lot of fun.

World War Z was a very much under-rated movie and I am not a Zombie movie fan except for the original.

I am a big fan of the original Nightmare on Elm Street but it along with Friday The CHOO CHOO CHOO CHA CHA CHA Jason is hiding in the closet with a pitchfork! 13 are more suspense than horror to me.

EDIT: Props on Night of the Living Dead. The original is a horror classic in my book that has stood the test of time, even in black-and-white format.

Mentioning SpongeBob costs 10,000 internet demerits. Pay up.

Wait.

I owe Reality 10,000 internet demerits. :(

If we want to get in the way back machine, The Blob was the best of that time. It was the template for "there's something wrong here that can't be explained like missing people but since you're teenagers, the authorities can't believe you" movie. Another with that premise that was a kick in the pants was Killer Clowns From Outer Space.

And I like the premise of "it's not over" like Halloween left you with at the end. No one wants to admit it but everyone checked the back seat of their car at least twice after leaving that movie. You know he's not there and I know he's not there but does he know he's not there? Might just check a third time, can't be too careful.

I took my wife to see Halloween and after we got home, she followed me around the house, even stood outside the bathroom door talking to me about anything. I laughed and told her she was being a big sissy. But truth be told, if she hadn't been following me, I would have been following her. And would have gone into the bathroom, to hell with talking through the door.

I have a requirement for a movie to be horror, the monster or perp must be small enough to fit in the closet, behind the door or under the bed. Large monsters are more creature features and while I like them, they don't make me keep checking behind the couch.

I remember I was in my early twenties extremely pumped to see the remake of the The Blob. I convinced myself "The original was fantastic! Now we have all these great special effects and stuff! This is gonna be a blast!"

The movie was not half way over before I was thinking how in the freaking world can a movie from the late 1950's be SO much better than this piece of crap.

The best Halloween movie of all time, imo, is “The Nightmare Before Christmas.”

i grew up in the '60s and '70s watching the classic B&W horror movies Universal Studios put out during the '30s and '40s. You listed some really great examples. 'Son of Frankenstein' is another of my favorites.

How about all those great Hammer films. Every time I watch Lord of the Rings with Christopher Lee or Star Wars with Peter Cushing, I flashback to those great movies. The Scars of Dracula was the best of the vampire ones, imo.

And for vampire movies, Fright Night, both versions, was pretty creepy. But for having the scariest vampire, I will go with Salem's Lot.
