I’d be happy w this signing. Kids young and was out of position in Oakland.

I'm not really excited about Obi Melifonwu at all. Like they say, the best ability is availability.

Oakland released him simply because he's been persistently injured since they've had him.

They also felt that he didn't care enough about playing football to waste more time with him.

They also just traded us Amari Cooper.

Interestingly, that "doesn't care enough about football" thing has been a criticism of both... though, I'm the first to say, that doesn't make the criticism legit.

That has nothing whatsoever to do with Cooper's situation. Dallas has done nothing but invite Obi in for a looksee.

His main problem as far as the Raiders are concerned is the issues he had w/injuries. He just got over a hip injury.

Options:

1. Play professional football and make bank
2. Don’t play professional football and don’t make bank

Tough decision.

He's definitely got the size and speed.... 6'4" 225ish pounds, 4.4 40. These were two reasons I liked him heading into his draft year but figured he would be a project.

Could Richards groom him into a Kam Chancellor type talent? I know Kam was a heck of a player but Melifonwu's build and our system are very similar and he'd have the same coach. I would definitely find a spot to try and groom the kid. A few articles claim he has a little position flex. His athleticism is off the charts if you can use him as a gunner etc. while he learns.

Wait... what UConn guy are we talking about here?

The 6-foot-3, 217-pound Melifonwu ran the 40-yard dash in 4.40 seconds at the NFL scouting combine and is considered to be strong against the run with good ball skills. His 40 time was the best among safeties at the combine and he also had the best vertical jump (44 inches) and broad jump (11 feet, 9 inches).

A former cornerback, he’s got the size and ability to defend tight ends — a huge area of need....
