3rd down back to pair with Zeke (Another post asked if we’d trade Zeke for Kamara. I’d trade Zeke for Ingram and Kamara. We need a 3rd down back to help a TE move the chains.

Defense
Safety

All subsequent posts will shout QB and coaching staff and owner. That’s stale for me, so I left those off my list. The problem is we need really good players, above average, at all 4 positions above, and that won’t happen with 1 second round pick. It wouldn’t happen if we still had our #1. We must be active players and overspend in FA to solidify these positions.

I’m very happy that we traded for Cooper. That fixes one key position with a true playmaker who is only 24 but also a veteran who is ahead of any rookie. That was a smart move for the long haul, but this team has too many holes at key positions to see in season additions fix it all.

The lack of a really good TE and/or 3rd down back and/or big possession receiver who plays like a TE is a bigger deficit than anyone acknowledges. I don’t know that I’ve ever seen an NFL team without one decent threat at TE, a QBs security blanket, a guy who gets the first downs, a guy who gets the ball in blitzing situations, a guy who pulls LBs and safeties back in the red zone.

The top teams always have 2-3 quality TEs because you need a good/great one and depth.

I’m not saying coaching or the QB aren’t issues, but it’s foolish to think those changes will fix everything. Dallas made too many changes among coaches in one year and left too many key player positions completely void of talent.

I guess we can hope they lose out.
Garrett and staff is fired.

And we get a high 2nd round pick.
This is what this lame organization has reduced my thoughts to.

We talk about this every year. Until there is a deep dive on why this is a failing organization, nothing will change.
You would think this would be easy to see but people still believe we are a safety and a nose tackle away from a championship

Coaching will change everything if he makes the right pick.
No it won't. They have to get Jerry, Jerry Jr, and Stephen out of the football decisions. If this doesn't change, the organization is going to continue to be mediocre.
It's THEIR choice.

Surprisingly for a team as bad as we are we don’t really have many holes that need immediate attention...

Except TE. The QB question I am leaving out because there is no chance we don’t have Dak again next year. Unless Jerry brings in a new coach that demands a QB change and we end up with Teddy Bridgewater. Drafting a QB isn’t really in play until the year after.

So I have to agree that safety and TE are our biggest weaknesses.

Makes you feel pretty bad when you can only point to 2 obvious upgrade needs and your team still stinks.

Safety is a huge need for this team as it has been for years. That long pass Mariota completed over Lee's head in the middle of the field in between 3 Cowboys defenders was a good play but a good safety would have cut that pass off. It was a wobbly duck. The Cowboys safeties have horrible anticipation and vision and are late to get over into the proper coverage. I don't know if its coaching or scheme, but I think its just bad safety play. An impact safety would turn this defense into a force.

I also agree they need DT help. There were big holes in the second half between the tackles and not enough pressure up the middle. Irving would help with the pressure, but what happened to Collins? I wish the Cowboys had made a run at snacks Harrison for a mid-round draft pick.

On offense, I'd like to know when is it time to panic over this offensive line? Zeke gets tackled for no gain or a lost almost half of his runs. Daks is getting pressured constantly and sacked almost 4 times a game. I expected Connor Williams to struggle this year because he looks small and needs to add strength. But Collins is also getting whipped at the point of attack after looking fairly solid last year. The OL looks as bad as I have seen in years. It may be worse than it was before they started investing draft picks in it. I think they made a mistake moving Collins to RT. They are too infatuated with versatility over competency.

The defense is good enough as it is. They had a bad night last night. They were out played and out-coached. The offense is the problem and its needs focus. Too bad they don;t have a 1st round pick in April to start fixing the problem. But, they do have tons of CAP room if they want to sign a few guys to bolster the OL.

Free Agency or the draft wont fix anything. We've been missing that one piece for like the past 20 years. Hire a real GM, hire a real coach and tell Jerry and Stephen to do what great owners do and get out the way and let the football minds do their jobs.

  • Fire Garrett & Linehan
  • Hire new HC / OC tandem. I like Chris Petersen, but pick your poison.
  • Allow new HC to make staff changes (bye Keelan)
  • Offseason let HC sign best FA QB—probably Bridgewater.
  • 2020 draft new first round QB (probably takes your 2020 & 2021 1st)

Need a new QB.

That's becoming more and more obvious by the week.

I think some were talking about it in week 1.

If not, it looks like they should have been.

I just find it funny that some fans will try to ignore the real problems and again go looking for some "player fix" hat can never overcome this anyway.

This team has actually drafted very well, and it doesn't matter. Nothing is enough to overcome the organizational and coaching dysfunction. The 90's teams would lose with these guys.

I think we go safety in round 2 and TE in free agency.

I think the same only opposite. After this season they are going to want to do something to generate some interest and that is acquiring a big name. Without a 1st round pick that is not going to come via the draft. Earl Thomas is the name they want, they tried a few times to get him this season/off-season. Not saying it is what I would do or like to see, just that it fits their modus operandi for this situation.

Now it could also be said that they don't spend on free agents and I agree with and understand that logic. This time, with no first round pick, things may be a bit different. Hard to stay on the sidelines the entire off-season.

Either way its going to be a long 10 months. Hope we get some coaching changes to at least provide a glimmer of hope right after game 16.

Days after flushing next year's premium pick.

The sad thing is though. With that premium pick, they would not take a QB. So it would be wasted on some player for depth.
As they would not go S or DT. Not an Ol, as they think they are ok there. So probably a DE. They like collecting DE's.

So this trade does not bother me. So what will they do with a high 2nd rounder.
The rest off this season will be a long 2 months.
The off season of waiting to see if Garrett will be fired will be long.
FA period will be long, as they will not participate
The draft will be long, as we have no 1st rounder, and only 5 picks. Which they sucked on day 3 last year.

Then we will get the FO lame lip service until TC. Which we will have nothing to look forward to, as Dak and Garrett will still be there.
The next 2 year will be the longest most dreadful years in team history.
At least the 88 and 89 season gave us something to look forward too. We do not have that as of right now.
