Troy: A complete overhaul of the organization needed

Man, making Troy GM is our only hope. He's a tie in to the glory days, and probably the only hire Jerry could make that would still make him look like a hero.

Fans wouldn't give a crap about Garrett if our HOF qb is part of the org.

Most fans are fed up with Garrett, come what may. Troy knows better than to work for Jerry by now. He'll stick with his TV gig.

HOF QB Troy Aikman this morning on his weekly radio show on Dallas radio station “The Ticket”: “If this team is ever going to turn this around, a complete overhaul of the entire organization is needed. Not just head coach or a few players.”

We’re Finally starting to hear former Cowboys greats stop pretending that the Emperor has clothes. Troy is saying what most fans have been saying for years- there are no players, or even head coaching changes that can make a ship sail that has a huge gash in the hull created by this fool of an owner. A new coat of paint is not going to keep the Titanic from sinking. We hit an iceberg named Jerry years ago.

Note to my fellow fans who have screamed for a new head coach, a new QB, a new OC, a new OL coach, new receivers, etc, etc.: This won’t get better without changing HOW is organization is run. To quote our last SB QB, “a complete overhaul is needed.”

Did Aikman offer any hypothetical insights how Jones will be ultimately convinced into self-resigning as general manager? Or did he use a radio show parroting and disseminating an already well-established , thoroughly discussed, decades long, commonly held opinion?

Jerry's a great owner, Jerry the GM is the real problem.

Any other GM that doesn't have blood ties would be worried about their job after all this failure.

He is not even a great owner any more. He allows and even dictates the organizational direction. He could fire himself, that still does not mean the culture changes.

We need to change the CULTURE. Bottom line that is exactly what Troy is saying. It always has been and always will be. Change the culture and bring accountability to this team.
This is how you raise your kids and this is how your run Microsoft and this is how your run a football team.

This is exactly right. When the Cowboys were good in the 1970s and in the 1990s, there was a well-defined “culture of winning”. This is not something that can be bought, traded for, or otherwise easily acquired. It is hard and it takes time and the right people to make it happen. Mr. Jones has tried to circumvent the development of such a culture and instead has tried to go for “quick fixes” because he has been operating under the illusion that the Cowboys are “this close” to competing for a championship. It also hasn’t helped that he has run the franchise from the perspective of personal ego gratification and extreme hubris. Sustained excellence in any organization generally cannot come from such ego-maniacal leadership....unless such leaders are indisputable geniuses in their field of endeavor. And, when it comes to putting a winning product on the field, I doubt that anyone would place Mr. Jones in the genius category.

The funny thing is, people get mad at Troy on Sundays for not being a Cowboys homer and just giving his opinion. That's exactly what he's doing here. I'm glad he said it.

“There’s been times where I’ve heard Jerry say, ‘OK, look, we’re going to do it differently. I’m going to do it differently.’ But it’s the same. Nothing changes. And that to me is the bigger issue, beyond, ‘Yes, coaching’s important, personnel,’ all those things are important, but how are you going about evaluating? How are you going about running the organization?”

And if any change has taken place it isn’t enough as the results on the field are still rubbish.
