Offensive futility in a league where it's easy to score

The NFL is setting records this year for points. Teams are scoring at will.

Not here. Dallas has scored 20 points or less in 12 of their last 16 games.

Dak's QBR is below Jameis Winston and Blake Bortles. His completion percentage is below Brock Osweiler. I hate stats, but wow.

This concoction isn't working. Linehan, Garrett, and Dak have to go. Until they do, this will be Cowboys football going forward.

The Jones' stubbornness and petulance suggests that we've got 3-4 years of this to go before they can even start over. They're trying to cling to Garrett. They'll extend Dak for probably at least 2 more years.

Talented roster, but it's all going to waste.

Well said E.

Teams that appear headed to the playoffs so far this season are averaging between 27-36 points per game. Cowboys are averaging less than 19 per game. Even this improved defense couldn’t save a team that can’t score.

The old adage, “Defense wins championships” in today’s NFL must be amended to “Offense wins championships with a little defense thrown in”.

Thanks for making me more depressed about this team.
Not even looking forward the the next game each week as I used to do.

Jus want this season over with. I have a lot of travel plans for next year. So I don't have to think about the off season depression either, as nothing will change.
We will see Dak and Jason get extended.
10 more years of misery.

We're only a player away!

We were only one player away, but we traded away our (high) first rounder for Amari Cooper. The missing piece! YAY!
The Cowboys are SuperBowl bound!
Brilliant management.

JG- give JJ a clap please.

Please, Mods, pin this to the top of the board and make it must reading for all current and future members.

Witten explained all this for 3 hours.

This offense is based around antiquated Zampese timing concepts and out executing the man in front of you every down.
If one man messes up it is over.

Modern teams are using read options, RPOs, rub plays, misdirection stuff so that the PLAY out-executes the defense.
Linehan has brought in a bit of that stuff and it looks good when used.
But he can't help himself and goes back to basic bread and butter timing crap all too often and all the defense has to do is blitz and timing is screwed. .
Dak is not good in that situation and when he does just let it rip he gets picked off because the defense know sour hot routes as well.

This offensive staff wanted a QB robot but robots are predictable.
Romo did weird stuff. He made his own routes by pointing a WR to space.
Year 3 Dak isn't going to do that and can't yet if he wanted to.

Looking at all the breakdowns of the Cowboys offensive line its not hard to figure out why the Cowboys don't score any points. Its like the perfect storm. The offensive line doesn't give the inaccurate QB much time to throw to receivers who can't get open. To make matters worse, the Offensive coordinator insists on running on first down 70% of the time even though defenses are stacking the line of scrimmage and keying on Zeke. Has anyone noticed how many 0 yard and negative yard runs Zeke has this season? On top of all this, none of the TEs can block or apparently know who to block! The final nail in the coffin is the coaching staff has apparently told Dak not to run. They stop calling the run option plays and Dak stands in the pocket forever (which is about 2.5 seconds for Dallas) waiting for a miracle and a WR to get open instead of seeing its not happening and taking off running - like he used to - probably because the coaches have told him not to run too much.

Dallas is not one player away, or maybe they are but they are so poorly coached we can't tell. I know Tyron Smith, Zack Martin and La'el Collins are better than they are playing this year. I've seen it. But they were worse last year than in 2016 too. How does that happen? That is the question that needs to be answered before this team can be good again. I think I know but I am certain Jerry Jones does not.

Yep opposed to having a talented QB we wasted. Lol

A greater QB would mask many of our weaknesses.

Overall especially defensively we have a more talented roster than we did with Romo but our QB is nullifying the progress we have made. But Jerry’s too stubborn to admit he made a mistake.

No ones safe as long as Dak remains our starter.

FWIW when I bag on this it is not just stuff I read and regurgitate.

I coached AAU basketball for a long time and by far my favorite system to use was a read and react system based on a couple sets that matched up with the defense they played.
It is basically the forerunner of RPO's on the football side.
And it is why scoring is going way up in football.
Instead of teaching 15 plays and running them over and over, teams now see the defense and call an adjustment based on what you are doing.
NE was the first to do this. They also disguise defenses for the same reasons.

We’re a good QB away from being a more serious playoff contender who could mask some of our weaknesses and highlite our strengths.

We aren’t a good enough team or organization to overcome a bus driver , bottom tier passing and scoring offense.

Defense has played well enough to be 6-2, 5-3 at worse. Classic Cowboys that we finally field a competent D the moment our franchise QB has to retire
