hebert said he might wait till 2020 so thats a weak qb class imo..no draft picks for us at qb..bridgewater likely stays in NO unless he gets a starting QB offer..why leave to back up Dak..get real if you or any others think Daks not starting 2019 with an extension..The intention is for this not to be another typical Dak thread. This is for the contingent fans that are ready to move on from Prescott as the QB of the Dallas Cowboys. Instead of debating Dak’s merits (or lack thereof) again, let’s operate under the supposition that we’re moving on, as that is the cry from so many.
So, the question is how do you do so and who is the target. Obviously the two options that exist are free agency and the draft.
2019 Free agents QBs: ................ 2019 probable Draft QBs:
Tyrod Taylor ........................ Justin Herbert, Oregon.
Josh McCown ........................ Drew Lock, Missouri.
Teddy Bridgewater ........................ Will Grier, West Virginia.
Ryan Fitzpatrick ........................ Dwayne Haskins, Ohio State.
Robert Griffin III ........................ Ryan Finley, NC State.
Derek Anderson ........................ Clayton Thorson, Northwestern.
Geno Smith ........................ Jarrett Stidham, Auburn.
Brock Osweiler ........................ Tyree Jackson, Buffalo.
Matt Barkley
Tom Savage
Taylor Heinicke
Brett Hundley
Trevor Siemian
Obviously some of the Draft picks will be out of reach without our #1 pick. Additionally, you can pretty much guarantee you’re not going to win a championship with a rookie. It’s an investment that takes time.
On the FA front, there may be a few QBs that are available with a trade. Possible Carr, maybe Winston.
So what’s the plan ladies & gentlemen?
Yay you're a groupie. Don't know about the Romo slobber gang. Slobbering seems more up your alley. Knowledge that anyone watching the games could see and check the stats groupie. It was 4 games also groupieYAY Im a groupe...uhh whatever that is??? Sure hope it's like the Tony Romo slobber gang groupie wagon tho!! And I quoted YOUR post because it was so outstandingly made, what with all that knowledge of Coop being a Dez average and all after THREE games....
As a Dak detractor here is what I would do.
1) No extension for Dak. He plays 2019 under his current deal.
2) I draft someone in the 2nd or 3rd round - Finley, maybe a Grier (if they fall as both might get overvalued and end up in Rd 1). The kid from Duke is another raw kid that might be there in the 3rd round.
3) I investigate what it could cost for Bridgewater. No other FA makes sense.
4) I bring in a legit OC that can work with a QB like Dak. Linehan and Moore get crap canned.
I am basically carpet bombing the QB position this offseason, if I can.
It's ok that you don't get it. I've seen fans here that are clearly still bitter. Some even claim Romo is a better QB than Aikman. You either are unaware or don't want to admit it. Either way, it doesn't change the fact that it's a reality. So, you can call it stupid and dumb, whatever. You're simply wrong and don't care that you are.
hopefully 1 or 2 is what will happens, give Dak time (balance of this year and a full season next) to prove himself I would prefer option 1 for cost but option 2 done right will work.Fair question.
I think we should one of the following two things:
1) Let Dak play out his rookie contract. He'll likely be bent out of shape about that, or;
2) Sign him to an incentive laden contract with performance bonuses that allow him to make money but also provide the Cowboys an "out" early in the contract that's not financially damaging.
This would allow the franchise to wait an additional year for a stronger crop of QBs to come out as well as allow them to regain a 1st round chip (2020).
It's always funny to me that people just immediately go to the "hate" criticism when posters aren't fawning over a player.
Why can't it be simply be that Dak is a middling QB with a limited ceiling?
I agree, both extremes are ridiculous. You've seen "some" fans. Not all, or even most, fans. I've never once suggested there aren't some fans who have an extreme position on Dak. That wasn't the point.
The poster in question often says things where he puts all those who take a different opinion than him on Dak into one large group of bitter Romo lovers or Dak "haters". That's what is dumb and stupid - his extreme position. Painting all or most Dak detractors as some sort of weird cult of Romo followers, which the poster does over and over.
Don't follow him down that rabbit hole. You're a better poster than that.
PS - Yes, people that say Dak is a horrid QB and one of the worst QBs they have ever seen are absolutely acting stupid as well.
Let him play out and see if he makes great strides and somehow corrects his inconsistent accuracy, 4 years should be enough to tell the tale, if it turns out he doesn't have it your team is most likely set back another 2 - 3 years which is better that 5 or 6. A serviceable guy is better that QB hell.So I'm in the camp of letting Dak play out 2019 and sell out for a top prospect in 2020 (hopefully with a new staff).
However, what this means is likely 2-4 more years of non-competition and that's if you hit on your prospect and are able to keep a good team around the QB. If you whiff? Oh buddy, we're in it for a while.
ROFL... sooo, the great Romo rears his head once again. You apparently haven't watched the YT of the great Tony tossing INT's like they were marshmellows at a camp fire...as for any of the schulbs mentioned by the OP, I wish they would go grab one, any one, doesn't matter, go get one of these 1 game legends and hell give him the starting Qb spot... yeah I so hope we do that next season....
And what did they get ,,,,,,,,,,,,,, Teddy and 6th for a 3rd.... not much for a QBAnd why did they trade him?
Because they were turning over the franchise to their first round QB in Darnold.
There is nothing wrong with claiming Romo is a better QB than Aikman. The only dumb claim is to act like one is definitively better than the other.
Fitzpatrick is a better passer than Prescott by a large margin.
WinceIf Bridgewater didn't cost a ton I would bring him in to compete with Dak.
That being said I think Dak is a franchise QB and needs more weapons. Funny guys like Wentz only play bad because they don't have weapons and then the team gets him a number 1 receiver and things change. Goff is another example with coaching being the best change for him and drafting a guy like Kupp.
Not sure why Dak isn't afforded the same as other QBs and it's just him as being the problem.
And what did they get ,,,,,,,,,,,,,, Teddy and 6th for a 3rd.... not much for a QB
