Dak leads the NFL in sacks

One of the DMN articles I read today said he gets the 5th best pass protection as far as time in the pocket in the NFL in 2018. He was 8th last year and 5th again in his strong 2016 year. So I don’t know if it will get a whole lot better than it is right now. He’s got to use the clean pockets he gets now better, and have better awareness when the pocket is breaking down to either throw it away or check it down (or if a sack can’t be avoided make sure you wrap it up).

That's average time it takes for the ball to leave the QBs hand, not how much time the QB is afforded by the Oline. Completely different.

Allen is #1 in that stat, do you think the Bills are the #1 pass blocking team in the nfl?

Pay that man for life to be the Defensive End of the Dallas Cowboys. 45 sacks in a single season with 4 games to go.

But I thought Dak played QB for the Dallas Cowboys?

OH, that's the offensive line problem. Dak does not play C, OG, or OT. So how does he have 45 sacks?

As someone else pointed out, our O-line is much better than the Giants, but Eli hasn't been sacked near as much, and he's about as immobile as a QB can be. Bottom line - Dak holds the ball too long.

Part of that is the fault of the play calling. But he also needs to learn how to throw receivers open.

It's a muddy stat to be sure. Dak could just be scrambling in a positive way, but it does sort of rule out a lot of 'no chance' plays as happening on a consistent basis.
 
he has to see the field quicker ie his reads, take off or throw it away if nothings there..he takes too long on a lot of those..

sure the pass protection breaks down as it does to a lot of QBS but many of his sacks and fumbles are his own doing..

he has to fix it himself having to have a perfect pocket with extra time is not great thing to NEED as a QB..im betting if he himself just gets a better clock in his head 40% of those sacks go away..
 
Against the Saints there were a handful of plays where Dak would throw the ball about as soon as he finished dropping back. I can only imagine that these plays were designed, and drilled into him, for Dak to get rid of the ball early. Maybe if they called more of those plays, more rpos, that will get the sacks down. Also those play action plays that are off of double fakes: most of those belong in the trash bin lol.
 
He needs to read the field way faster and have better pocket awareness. I dont know why he goes backwards almost instantly when he feels pressure. Either that or he tells himself he's gonna sit there as long as possible. He's either gonna get the pass off or get sacked. He does it all the time. He just sits.. he doesn't throw the ball. It's beyond frustrating to watch.

In the off-season, though; cut him + upgrade on a completely overrated OL.

"Time to Throw

We introduced time to throw data for the 2011 season, and it opened up an entirely new way of looking at the game. Initial instincts tell us that time to throw is a function of an offensive line’s ability to protect the quarterback, but we’ve found that it’s better used as an indicator of a quarterback’s style and a team’s offensive scheme.

It’s no coincidence that pocket quarterbacks like Peyton Manning and Tom Brady consistently rank among the fastest releases in the league as they’re rightly touted for their quick decision making and ability to work within the flow of the offense, and their pocket stats back this up.

On the other hand, some of the younger, more mobile quarterbacks in the league such as Cam Newton, Russell Wilson, Colin Kaepernick, and even Andrew Luck have much higher times to throw, and it’s not because they’re getting more time from their line, but moreso because they’re either looking to extend plays with their legs, trying to take more downfield shots, or some combination of both.

There’s no right or wrong when it comes to time in the pocket, but it’s a great look at both what a quarterback and scheme are trying to do and each quarterback’s strengths and weaknesses when using a quick release or when given time to sit in the pocket."
