Elton John, Seriously Dude

During the early to mid 70's, the guy tore it up on the charts. At one point signed the largest recording contract in history... Forget what the amount was but it was astronomical at the time.

"Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" is one of my all-time favorites.

:lmao2::lmao2::lmao2: I live across from Detroit and I saw Elton John on the Canadian side in a 6000 seat arena. It was a good concert. Very surprised he'd play here.

Windsor? I loved that town! I remember visiting Detroit when I was only 19 and being able to cross the river and gamble at the casino. Was awesome. They also had some great looking clubs there.

"AN EARACHE MY EYE!! NOW GET YOUR CLOTHES ON, AND GET YOUR LITTLE BUT READY FOR THE CONCERT!!" - CHEECH AND CHONG - THEY WOULD'VE BEEN A BETTER CONCERT ANYWAY. :lmao:
momma talking to me always tellin me how to live...

Heard a radio discussion on this. They compared him to Axel Rose, who played for 2hrs+ at a concert in Dubai on Sunday in spite of being very sick and needing IVs.
heh - i do believe axl has cancelled many shows also. he's a strange one to be sure.

Yea, I don't know what the big deal was. I heard Journey a few months ago and it sure sounded like the lead singer for them had to have a bad ear infection because he missed more notes than he hit. And the crowd still seemed to love it. Elton could have lyp synced through the event and I doubt anyone would have noticed.

Yes, Windsor. He played the WFCU Center. Gambling and legally drinking I assume. Before 9/11, Windsor's downtown on the weekend was crawling with 19-20-year-old Americans. The Casino is really nice. They now have a 6000 seat concert hall. I've seen Roger Daltry, Cheap Trick, Pat Benatar, ZZ Top, Jeff Durham, Howie Mandel, Bachman Turner Overdrive...and many more I'm missing. Going to see Skynyrd in March there. It really is the jewel of the area. sadly, downtown Windsor has been taken over by a homeless and drug epidemic.

A most excellent album and if not for "Madman Across the Water", my favorite of his.

My problem with him is the same with Billy Joel and Chicago, they all lost their edge and became Adult Contemporary stars and when they started out could only get played on Album Rock stations. I don't call it selling out, they just changed. Joel was at his best when he'd been dumped on, brought out that edge.

I saw Billy Joel right after his first album came out at UTA as the opened for Charlie Daniels and ZZ TOP so you can imagine the crowd in Tejas. He was an unknown and "Piano Man", his first release, had only been out a week; however, I'd bought his album the day it hit and was familiar with his music and it was impressive. He comes out in a black suit, white shirt, black tie and white tennis shoes and the crowd immediately began to murmur in a hostile fashion. Then he began to perform and owned a Daniels/ZZ TOP crowd within 3 songs standing up and playing the piano with a fury and had a really tight band. That night, the opener got a standing ovation and an encore, unheard of at that time. Ya know how it's the opener's job to "sell" the headliner? Both Charlie and Billy Gibbons couldn't say enough about him. I could only imagine what this New York kid was thinking when he looked out into that crowd before taking the stage.

I think the money was in adult contemporary and that's probably where the labels pushed these guys (& others).

I'm in Tampa and my coworkers have been talking about this all day (how disappointed they are).

Wouldn't mind going to one of his concerts. Have always enjoyed his music. Would've loved to have seen him and Billy Joel when they toured together years ago.

That's too bad to hear. It has been a VERY long time since I have been there. I have some great memories from there though. :)

Thirty years ago I had two tickets to see Elton in Tampa. I took my girlfriend at the time in a driving rain storm to the event only to find out when driving in that he cancelled the concert because he had the "flu". Of course years later we find out he was dealing with other issues that were not "flu" related. But we were told he was going to reschedule fo the next night. So I went back to Ticket Master and upgraded my tickets to close to the front. I paid another fee for the new tickets and went back the next night. Again, the next night I am driving into the parking lot and attendant says he had to cancel again due to the "flu'

So he is making his farewell tour and was going to be in Amalie Arena tonight. My son sent me two tickets. Found out last night about 11 that he cancelled the concert for tonight. Apparently he was in Amway arena in Orlando last night with a full house and his spokesman walks out 20 minutes before showtime and says he has an "ear infection" I guess it is too early for the "flu"

Damn Diva-what is it about Central Florida?

Dude's pretty old. Could be something more embarrassing than an earache.
Like anal trauma?
Goiter?
Post traumatic weiner syndrome?
Saw him in Vegas. A spectacle....more me than him. I was loaded. Under duress cuz my wife wanted me to go. Overpriced, over dramatic. Gaudy. When you want your concert bang for your buck go see Iron Maiden.
