Dak, Time to Release, and Air Yards

It's not bashing. Bashing is baseless and akin to "Dak sucks and is a backup." It's just a discussion of what Dak actually is as a passer which, generally speaking, is slow to progress through reads and struggles to deliver down the field.

It's only bashing to those who refuse to accept that Dak is flawed as a passer. Did I say he's not a starter in the league? Did I say Dallas can't win with him? Did I say that Blake Bortles is better?

If you’re calling me out, you’re barking up the wrong tree.

I have stated a million times that I have a love hate relationship with him.

How are time to release and Air yards so mysterious?

A QB having a quick release has been a thing forever, and throwing the ball down the field has been a thing forever. This is just the numbers that go with those talking points. I don't get the mystery?

I understand.......guess I just never seen it broken down using such narrow data.

Separate the stat to before/after cooper. That will show us a better picture of how he is doing.

While at nextgenstats the OP should check out the completion % above expectation. It's a stat that actually matters when determining QB performance.

Dak is 8th in that category, completing 3.1% more attempts than he should given the distance and aggresiveness of each of his passes. Pretty dang impressive.

In OP defense, pretty sure he didn't pull it from the air. I suppose it's useful data for some teams and/or players.

i'm really interested in dak with and without cooper. i'd be interested in seeing that split. this is interesting data, tho, for sure.
however, judging him when his most talented WR was cole beasley is rough. we also have no real receiving option at TE, where i'd assume quick passes over the middle are the usual. i think this needs more context.

it's definitely useful. i don't know how useful it is by itself, but it's all useful.

The posters dismissing this stat just dont understand it or want to.

The stat simply says that dak holds on to the ball and his average throw tends to be shorter. You view this along with dak taking so many sacks and it paints the picture that hes not getting through his reads quick enough and checks down a lot. Which i think most of us agree is the case.

Goff and mahomes hold the ball a long time but they arent getting hammered and their intended air yards (which factors out long catch and runs) are longer, which tells you they are waiting for downfield plays
