The only way I see Romo getting into coaching is because of his competitive nature and he gets bored doing commentary. Otherwise, why would he? He's doing good at commentary and getting paid $5 million a year to work part of the year (which will only increase the longer he stays good at it) and take the rest of the year off doing whatever he wants. Give me that pay for three years and I'll be ecstatic.

Plus the tv gig will expand to Golf at some point. Many more perks staying where he is for him and his family.

I think Linehan is as good as gone. Many do not think that Romo can be lured away from the booth. I do not believe that for a second.

It really makes sense. Romo is super competitive. While he has a guaranteed gig as a sportscaster, and it may make financial sense, Romo has enough money that he can do what he WANTS to do. I think he wants to compete.

Jerry could pay Romo enough money that he would leave the booth and be the OC. He could also be the heir apparent head coach waiting in the wings. If Garrett falters, Garrett could be promoted to the front office of the Cowboys and Romo could be elevated to HC at that point.

Say what you want about Garrett, he may not be great at situational football, but he's methodical and that has value. Romo could gain Garrett's expertise in methodology and add the game situation management that Garrett lacks and be ready to take over for Garrett.

Romo is like a son to Jerry and that can't be under appreciated. That street runs both ways. Romo has love for Jerry and this organization. Romo could also either get Dak on board next year or choose a guy who can get the job done.

I know some of you will say this could never happen because of Romos current tv gig. But we will just have to agree to disagree on that point. Jerry gets what Jerry wants.

Also look for General Lee to be a coach if he wants to be. He has the mindset to eventually be a great D.C.
Did an inside guy give you this idea? :D

I am sorry but this is just another sad attempt to make headlines where there simply isn't any. This kind of brief is what espn calls news and hopes its uneducated fans will swallow as an actual real story. Romo isn't leaving his TV gig (no matter what Jerry wants...as you say...lmao). One of the reasons he left was family. Being a coach means he will spend a ton of time away from home. I like Romo as much as anyone else but it's a pipe dream and something that needs to be dismissed entirely.

Why would anyone think anyone could just walk off the field and coach on that level. Just like the idiots that think Kellen Moore is actually coaching.

And Ware will come back to coach, and Jimmy. Houck is already here, and we ll get Ernie and Dave and Norv guys plus Roger to be the QB coach, all these guys want to give up the good life to come back to us.

I think if Romo choose to do it he could be very good at it. I would say one reason he and many former players choose not to get into coaching is they know the long hours involved in coaching. Well after the players leave the coaches spend some long nights. There are many ex players who know this and just have no desire to do it.
He’s got the best job he’s ever gonna get going forward in his life
One day he may come back to football when his kids are older but he’d be crazy to do it now
These jobs don’t come open very often

Romo as OC is a complete joke. Being able to read a defense and ad lib plays does not quality one to be OC. He has zero coaching experience.
What system would he run? He played in only one place and hasn’t learned from various coaches.
Whom would he bring in as his support/position coaches? Every offensive position coach would think, rightly, that they are more qualified to be OC than he is.

Why don’t we just give Romo a crown and robe and make him emperor of Earth.

There's no doubt that the tv gig is much better for someone more interested in money and free time. However, it doesn't offer the brotherhood and competitiveness that being part of a team does.

If someone is motivated by those things, then coaching is the only route to go. Romo is a competition junkie. He thrives on competing. That's why he played so much golf and played in basketball and soccer rec league's in the off season.

I'm not saying I think he will become a coach, but it will not surprise me one bit if he finds the tv booth tame and boring and decides coaching is where he can best get his competition fix on a regular basis.

I would love to see Romo become either our HC or OC in Dallas when Garrett is done. Number 9 kicks out Garrett after 9. Has a nice ring doesn't it?! Stay tuned.

Agreed. That why I think he will leave the booth for the right job. I also think he'd like to win an SB, cannot do that in the booth.

I keep seeing this over and over about Romo coaching as OC. Its never going to happen and this is why. Romo is already making NFL OC money working in the booth for far fewer hours of work. He doesn't have to put in the 60-70 hrs a week an OC does. Romo might one day choose a General Manager role but not a coach. Its just not going to happen.
