So we may as well root for Dallas to win. If they make the playoffs then what is there to complain about. This is a very young team and maybe one of these years they get lucky and take home a Lombardi trophy.
It's a young team where maybe next year we have a bunch of guys still on their rookie contracts. Lots of contracts come due in 2020.

We've seen Garrett manage games and Linehan call games. I don't think it's possible to take home a Lombardi with either of those guys.

The most important thing in the last offseason was to get Dak back on track. Didn't happen. He's gotten better through the season, but he's not a guy making a run this year. He's a guy still trying to get back to the same mechanics he had as a rookie. He's a guy handicapped by being kept where he is relatively least effective, in the pocket. They've made him worse, and they've taken away his best opportunities to shine. And then there's Atlanta. They took a guy who made the Pro Bowl his rookie season, and had one of the best QB rookie seasons of all time, and turned him into a bad QB for most of the last year. They've been a disaster for Dak, and thereby the team.

We had a coaching change after winning a Superbowl before, and I'm not being held hostage by a quarterback that averages 200 yards and 1 touchdown a game even if we win the Superbowl.
I'm calling BS.

A division title only means a home game in the playoffs. Even if this division wasn't trash winning the division is a meh accomplishment.

But you know what a home playoff game means, right?

Losing is like nicotine. It gets in the blood stream. It's bad for you, and it becomes a habit. Soft people sitting in their living rooms watching on TV embrace losing as a strategy. That is why such people are sitting in their living rooms watching on TV.

Tanking might have its advantages in the NBA where rosters are small and many if not most of the players doing the losing will be churned out regardless. But NFL teams cannot be churned in the same way. Most of the guys doing the losing will remain on the roster.

Winning is the right habit.

Why would the players tank on purpose? We don't have a first round draft pick, so tanking for that reason isn't going to do us any good. So, does that mean the players are supposed to tank on purpose to get rid of Garrett? Garrett himself wouldn't tank, because as I said going 8-8, after being 8-5 should get Garrett fired. Jerry seems to be fond of Garrett, so he isn't going to order the players to tank on purpose to get rid of him.

On no level in this franchise does the players, the owner, and especially the headcoach tanking make any sense. Nor do I see why if would benefit the team more than getting into the playoffs, in an NFC that is wide open right now. Just because some assume that the Cowboys will be one and done, then that means that the players shouldn't even try to win the division.

Teams tank to get a high round draft pick. We don't even have a first.

Or players may quit on a coach if they don't like him, but the players seem to like Garrett, so they aren't going to quit on purpose or intentionally lose a game, just so that Garrett can be gone. I believe that Garrett should be gone if he can't get the job done, but still tanking a game or not trying to win a division makes no sense in this scenario.

Is this so hard to understand??

It requires too much thought for most.

Of course he's right. A division title would just make it easier for the lunatic owner to keep things status quo with a weak head coach and then hand the worst contract in league history to a QB who can't throw the ball, has no pocket presence, can't read defenses, etc.
I’m shocked you think Jerry is going to run his franchise based on what fans want lol.

------Winning is bad
We need more losing
Got it

Don't twist things around. If winning a terrible division, only to see a quick playoff exit buys The Clapping Carrot more time, then YES, winning is bad.
I hear you, but I wanna watch another playoff game this season they may win

I guess none of you were mad when we "won" that meaningless game against the Eagle's backups last year..

We got better draft position because of it and all that was left at our pick was a soft Taco.

What is going to the playoffs and being one and done going to get Us?
I’m never mad about winning

Dallas drafted LVE after that game. Carry on governor
Yep. It was LVE instead of Derwin James. Had we lost that last game, we'd have picked 16. As it stands, it ended up working out, and from all the pre-draft rumblings we may have picked LVE at 16 anyway.

(For the record, I wanted Derwin James badly and was very unhappy with that whole situation. Anyone have some good recipes for crow?)

Easy for you to say when earning a playoff seed puts no money in your pocket.

well this is what a majority of the fans here were spouting when we were 3-5 they wanted us to lose out and tank, fire everyone and start over.. The 5 game streak blew that up..at 805 winning the 2 games against the eagles and the saints, all of a sudden theres hope, now after one loss we want to go back to hoping to lose.. Sorry Rob makes sense if you are HOPING for a complete blowup ie Garett and Linehan gone and Dak not getting paid big..however no way no how do I believe real fans want us to go 8-8 and miss the layoffs at this point..if that happens and Garett gets canned, well I can live with that..

Rob Parker not only looks dumb. He is dumb.
It's a stupid argument. Garrett, weather you like him or not, is about to clinch the division with one of the worst QBs in the league. Thats a fact however you want to twist it. Swept the SB champs, who's wonderboy coach couldn't figure out how to stop the Cowboys lethargic offense when he needed to. And will probably go 5-1 in the division. If they don't go far in the playoffs, I'm pretty sure it will be more because of a QB who can't hit tight windows in the red zone rather than a coach who can't get him to do it. Round peg, square hole.

So lets just say you ditch Garrett. Then, you have to find a coach who is going to agree to work with management who sticks there nose in everything. How many coaches want to do that? Or they want to bring in their own staff. Joneses aren't going to be up for that. How about the philosophy change? They are going to start roster changes. Guys looking for long term security are going to want to jump ship. Lawrence, Beasely, Jones all these guys due contracts in the next year may start looking elsewhere.

It's a whole lot easier and less disruptive organizational wise, to bring in some real competition for Dak and see how that goes. Better than gifting a real average QB $100 million and having that albatross for years to come. They just got rid of so much dead money and it took years. They better be damn sure about Dak.

I believe if Dallas loses out and miss the playoffs with the bucs being one of the worse loses in cowboys history, this would have to automatically go down as probably a top 5 choke of all time by a team in nfl history.

If the Cowboys go 6-2 in the second half to win the Division with 9 or 10 wins, could it be possible that Garrett isn't horrible after all?

Bueller?

He is dead on correct, what is best in the long run.

In total agreement with Rob. For the greater good I believe its called. The Cowboys using hope as a strategy towards a deep playoff run is the only option this year. I guess this year could be compared to previous past teams championship runs if the Cowboys were to impressively win the next 2 games and go on a playoff tear. But history has repeatedly shown this staff incapable of closing the deal in winning playoff level ball.

All the other discussion regarding the current quarterback's play that has been critiqued consistently by far more qualified people than Fan Zone members is just fluff. Need improvments at the coach and QB positions on this team to win it all.

BOTH. Not "either/or".

To be fair. I don’t think Garret is horrible.

I do think he hasn’t proven to be anything more than mediocre either.

Like it or not, it’s a coaches job to win in the playoffs. 1 playoff win in 8 years aren’t good results and isn’t worthy of long term job stability IMO.

The ball is in Garret’s court to prove that he can lead a team to significant playoff wins. Making an NFC title game could go a long way to change people’s perception of him.
