Jerry's worst nightmare

Jerry's biggest fear....

Having to replace Garrett and then having to watch all the credit go to the next coach if success follows, a la Jimmy Johnson.

It eats at him like a pack of rats. Credit consumes him. He's basking in the Amari Cooper light as we speak. He feels like a football man, and it's glorious.

Any other coach won't be "his" guy unless it's his buddy Lincoln Riley, who isn't ready to jump yet. It's gotta be Garrett, or the asterisk on Jerry will be fully supplanted.

Anything short of a win Sunday and a good showing in the divisional round....and the vultures will be swirling over Jerry all offseason to fire Garrett.

He shouldn't see it that way, but that's just his hillbilly logic.

We all know Linehan is the planned fall guy, but if this ends in a thud, that won't placate anybody. It will be laughed at endlessly.

Jerry is puckered up right now.

Jerry’s biggest nightmare is letting go of Garrett and then seeing Garrett win a Super Bowl with another team. Seriously I think that is what keeps Garrett here. If that happened everyone would blame our lack of success 100% on Jerry.

Regardless of what happens Saturday, Garrett is not getting fired. Sadly. But you don’t go 10-6, win 7 of last 8, and the division, and get fired.

You might if you go out and get smacked again in your first round playoff game.

Jerry did clearly say a few weeks ago that Jason needs to be more successful in the post season. More than likely if they lose to seattle guys like Linehan will be sent packing but I would not be stunned if Garrett was gone too.

Jerry no longer has the cover of Cincy keeping Lewis employed for far too long. Lewis is out. Garrett now assumes the mantle of the longest tenured coach with the worst postseason performances.

I think JG keeps his job regardless. If we lose they will blame Linehan. There will be a big stink about our OC and how we need to change our playbook and playcaller. JJ will go out and get a good OC. But he will let it be known quickly that JG is still going to be the HC.

"Garrett would never get another job" is purely a creation of these message boards. He has a winning record over 8 seasons and the team is clearly a much better team than when he took over **cough Wade Phillips cough**.

People may not like the fact, but there aren't many of those types around in a league that is going to fire a third of its head coaches this month.

People take their own feelings and apply to others. After all if the OP feels this way then everyone else must feel the same way as well.

Exactly, these things take on a life of their own. Jeff Heath is a liability.... until he isn't. Randy Gregory is a homeless loser.... until he isn't. The Amari trade is a disaster.... until it isn't.

That says more about the people hiring than the people that get hired.

Garrett would likely get another job because retreads is actually a thing in this league.

Jeff Heath is an average safety so people aren’t really that wrong on that one.

Garrett will never get offered another head coaching job.
I think enough GM's hate Jerry that they would give Garrett another shot as HC out of spite. We are talking about 70 year old millionaire adolescents that carry around a lot of petty jealousy.

I think it’s mlre that some GMs/owners have big enough egos where they would convince themselves they could turn Garrett into a SB coach.

No GM is going to put his *** on the line just to hire a coach to spite Jones.

Just curious. How do you know what Jerry’s biggest fear is? Are you his therapist? I am not agreeing or disagreeing with you, but it is odd for someone to speak/write so definitively on someone else’s psyche as if they are in position to do so yet they have never even met nor talked to the person. I get the concept of speculation but you presented this as a known fact... that’s just odd to me.

Sadness aside, your point should be seriously considered since Jones has invested a lot in Garrett. A wild card loss or divisional loss or conference championship loss will not get Garrett canned in Jones' eyes in my opinion.

However, a Super Bowl loss could. If the team could mount a serious postseason run and fall just short, Jones' narcissism would feel self-justified in adopting an 'any one of a number of coaches could take this team back to the Super Bowl and win it this time' approach.

No one should laugh. He has done it before.
