Who remembers 5-0 playoff win vs. Lions in 1970?

Thank you Xelda. I don’t remember much other than Greg Landry, the Detroit QB getting sacked in the end zone late in the game. Craig Morton was the Cowboy QB. They both played terribly, it was cold in the Cotton Bowl and it was the divisional playoff game after both went 10-4. It was the year they went to the SB and lost to the Colts 16-13 on a last minute Jim O’Brien FG.

5-0 sounds like My kinda game, not overly enamoured with 51-49 type games played on pristine carpets in climate controlled domes, give Me a slug-it-out game in the mud and rain any day.

I’m with you Londonboy, defensive slugfests are way more interesting. Unfortunately, all the good defensive teams - Chicago, Baltimore, Seattle, Dallas were knocked out this year. We’re left with high scoring track teams; probably NO is the best balanced team although NE always finds a way to put it together when it counts. The last old fashioned, cold weather slugfest I can think of was MIN-SEA in the 2015/16 playoffs when the MIN kicker Blair Walsh missed a 27 yard FG and SEA won 10-9.
 
My sister was just born. I wasn't even a twinkle in my parents eyes yet...

Remember it well, BCfEoM, and that's the last time I will address you by your full name. Henceforth you shall be known as Biggie. I would use Mr. Big but I don't want the rest of them to know I watched Sex and the City with my wife.

With all of the Cowboys conspiracies that run amok on this site, the one they seldom, if ever, address is that pass that was touched by another Colt before arriving in John Mackey's hands for that TD. That was against the rules back then and I remember the flight of the ball altered slightly but there was no instant replay or challenges back then. They also got the game in under 3 hours so maybe there is a connection?

That Detroit game was special as that team held a very distinctive record. When holding opponents to 0 points, they were undefeated.

Hi CouchCoach, I feel honored that a long time, distinguished poster on this site responded to my post. The origin of my “name” was a boast I made to Jerry Jones when I met him once in New York and we got to talking about Cowboy lore. I told him I was the biggest Cowboy fan east of the Mississippi which may be an overstatement but I feel like I am (at least top 10 ). Anyway, I’ll take the moniker Biggie even though it connotes I’m a big dude (I’m average size). As to the Mackey catch, I agree it was a bogus non-call on a day full of errors. That frustration laid the foundation for the dynasty to come!

Long time? Yep Distinguished? Nuh uh, I was extinguished one time when trying to light a snifter of cognac.

Yeppir and we took that out on the Dolphins a year later for our first of 8 trips and 5 rings. That was especially satisfying because of how we lost that one to the Colts.
