They were abducted while following the yellow brick road.
I blame flying monkeys.

No, I wouldn't suggest Jones is selfish or foolish. Or whatever adjectives you have in your playbook. He's continued to bring in people to help. He's continued to make decisions by committee and he's given the fans and players one of the greatest places for football. Including high school players. How much did you contribute to AT&T stadium or the Star facility?
That's what I thought.
good is where the majority of nfl teams live there are only three or four that are good enough usually
I stopped at "makes all the calls." I get most dislike Jones, but that's not accurate.Foolish is a pretty apt term for an owner that has operated pretty much the same way he has for two decades and expects different results. You can claim he brings in people to "help" but when he's the one who makes all the calls, it doesn't really matter who or how many he brings in to help.
People should learn to separate his business acumen and his football acumen. There is no question that he's done a fantastic job in building the Cowboys into the dominant sports franchise financially. He's got a knack for marketing and promotion and the ability to turn even middling on the field results into a pay day off of it. What he's built in terms of a stadium and practice facility is impressive. But those are off the field accomplishments.
But in terms of football acumen, he's largely been a dud. Over two decades ago, he made the decision to forge a different path than one that had him working in tandem with Jimmy Johnson. Jerry assumed the mantle of team builder and since that time, the franchise has largely underperformed to historical norms.
The biggest issue facing this team isn't the QB or the coach or the defense. It's the owner/GM, who for more than two decades has led a franchise that fits in more with the Bengals and Commanders of the NFL than the Steelers or Patriots. His inability to see his own failings as GM has been the biggest anchor on the on the field performance of this franchise.

While I'm not a huge or even an average Jones fan, the general nonsense spewed here is just that. He's let go of a lot of things he headed which includes Stephen Jones and McClay.
The idea that he makes ALL THE CALLS isn't correct. It's much more by committee. I'm not living in the past. Jimmy and the 90's, Romo, Witten, Dez, Ware etc... are over. I'm in the now. If Elliott doesn't get a dumb suspension, we're 3 time division champs with 3 playoff games in a row. Pretty encouraging.
I'm also fairly certain Jones is well aware of his failings as he's made plenty of changes over the years.
I don't know how it is at the games now but according to erod, the crowd can get quite drunk and rowdy and I've heard from people about seeing fights in the parking lot and concessions areas."old money" fans vs nouveau riche.
back in the good old days of landry and schramm, I thought the two most arrogant individuals in the universe were the aforementioned. but they produced victories which cures most ills. I sided with Staubach when he presented his side of why he wanted to call his own plays, saying he saw things on the field of play that landry couldn't standing on the sidelines. I became more of critical of landry and his flex defense after don Coryell and the st. louis cardinals figured it out and how to beat it. but landry's answer was always that if the players executed as they should, it was just fine. (it wasn't). the criticism's always been there. it's just that there are far more venues to express it in today's world.
What makes this board great is that we have a guy starting a thread here calling some Cowboys fans unintelligent while he's in another thread saying Jason Garrett is probably better than Sean Payton as a head coach.
Comes with the territory, my friend. Many Texans think they invented the game and take that "football is religion" to extremes. Because of that, many think they know more than they actually do.Ignorant no.... arrogant...yes .
We use to be one of the most intelligent fan bases in the NFL. Now we hang off of every word of the media's click bait that is purposely targeting our uniformed response.
I blame the parents for raising them that way.No half joke. Millennials are soft individuals.
They care about their feelings and fantasy football.
Landry was a great innovator but he stopped doing that in the 80's and Bill Walsh assumed that role. And while Landry, Brandt and Schramm had been a great triumvirate, that died out as well and they were no longer drafting as well. And Schramm's heavy handedness with the players also took it's toll. Schramm would not have done well with FA. He needed that indentured servant situation that prevailed back then.Excellent post. The "good ole days" weren't all good. To read many of the posts on CZ, you'd think we went to or won the Super Bowl every year during the Landry era. The reality is we played in 5 in a 9 year span, winning 2 and losing 3. Prior to 1970, we were 1-4 in the playoffs, including back to back years when we were the prohibitive favorite and were bounced in the opening game by Cleveland. There was no shortage of thought that a different coach was needed to get the team over the hump. Add to that the final 6 years which resulted in only 2 Wild Card playoff appearances, both 1 and done endeavors.
My post isn't to diminish Landry or say that he wasn't an outstanding coach because he was. But many of the posters on here, if they were of age in the late 80s, were probably amongst those that were saying the game had passed him by and time for him to go. IMHO, the Cowboys wouldn't have had the success they had in the 90s had Jones not bought the team, fired Landry and brought in Jimmy.
As someone from the old DC board, I can tell you that from what I've seen, not many of the idiotic and repetitive threads are originated by the refugees of that forum.Internet message boards and radio nonsense are not a good indication of what this fanbase actually is.
As for this place between a lot of the old guard leaving for there own board and the refugees from DC.com, the average intellect here has dropped significantly. You can tell by the insipid repetitive number of threads you have to go through to find worthwhile convos nowadays.
The negative tend to be the most outspoken, so when you get a few of them shouting mindless drivel, the mob mentality takes effect, and others who normally wouldn't have that point of view are swayed to light their torches and grab their pitchforks.
Well, Sterling's photo is as BIG as Texas. After living thru the Landry years, and witnessing Jimmy and The Triplets, sometimes I feel like this team is stuck in. . .

Rightfully so since this team has done the same.we lowered our standards.
I was talking to a young Cowboys fan last night at the bar. I mentioned being a fan through the rough times makes it all pay off when we win it all like when we went 1-15. He nearly passed out and questioned if I was telling him the truth. I thought he was going to die when I told him Troy, Emmitt and Irvin were on the team and Jimmy was the coach.
