Have we become so used to Jerry that anytime he does bare minimum we praise him?

Whatever already. This team is what it is.

I wish it was different also, but it’s based on a total lie because Jerry thinks he deserves to go down in football history the way he wants to be seen because he thinks very much of himself.

I’m looking forward to some decent football before Jerry sticks his beak in and crushes any shot Shoddy has to get this team into the correct mindset, then blame him.

Genuinely curious, and this isnt to spark an angry debate.

This is a genuine question from someone that has seen this happen time and time again and wants to gauge why this happens here all the time.

Have we as a fanbase, become so used to Jerry and his family failing, that any time he does the BARE MINIMUM of his job description, we praise him for it?

Are we this conditioned by his terrible off-seasons that when he does literally the bare minimum of signing a guy on time or using FA the way everyone else does we celebrate it like we just won our 6th?

Why do fans who are justifiably upset and taking a wait and see approach ostracized so much on this site?

I am excited about the moves that were made, but I am cautiously optimistic mainly because I have 0 faith in the head coach of this team.

Can they prove me wrong, of course, and I will be the first to admit it, but can we stop praising people for showing up to work?
Nope. I ignore him and hope he's letting someone else make decisions.

Who the heck ever praised him for doing bare minimum? I would think many of us have been ready to burn him at the stake for the past 20 years.

C'mon, Whirly, stop the Rocky cheap shots.
I already apologized for it, I didn’t think I used the word fan, I thought I used the word support, that was my bad. I agree I was trying to ask an honest question as you will see further through the thread.

But it already has set off a landslide, because they misinterpreted my intention, I was curious just like he was, why do people support the Cowboys if they don’t approve them
Me it’s because of the star and what it represents
And I wanted to know, his honest opinion, I wasn’t being derogatory and I didn’t have an agenda

I’m a huge critic of Jethro. And think he deserves all the criticism he’s endured.

I also think most fans generally are going to look for the upsides. Afterall this is a sports team they are rooting for not their stock market investment.

So like with most fans around the league every offseason and this time of year is a time for renewed optimism . Reality begins after Labor Day.

Give it time. If it begins to go south the outrage will return.

Not all of us have accepted the career assistant who was passed over 27 times
Right. He still hasn’t had a winning record. And wonder why he was passed over by rest of league.

Jethro and the Cowboys don’t pursue or attract the premier HC’s unless their phone isn’t ringing.

That's my take as well.

I think Jerry definitely wanted Parsons back but also badly wanted to win the contract battle with Parsons and his agent, but that gave the rest of the front office time to convince him to trade Parsons.
I’m not even sure the rest of front office convinced him. I tend to think once Parsons was disrespected he wanted out ( he stated he wanted out) and forced the trade orchestrated by his agent and Green Bay.

Once Jethro realized there was no return and with season approaching had little choice but to take deal as Parsons would have likely sat out.

Parsons wanted to stay in Dallas, he's said that much even after the trade multiple times.

Jerry didn't want to pay him what he and his agent wanted, so that's what led to the trade.

Jerry likely thought Parsons would cave and put pressure on his agent when the season got close to starting and when that did not happen, that's when Jerry realized it was time to move on.

That said, I think several people in the front-office were likely on board with trading him long before it happened, but Jerry was the one holding out.

I do think Parsons was going to sit out and hope that the bad defense the team put on the field would put pressure on them (and it would have given how historically bad they were last year), but I think Jerry finally gave in to the other people around him and traded him to get those draft picks and get help with the DL where they needed to improve against the run.

Sure, if Jethro had caved Parsons would have gladly stayed. At least initially he didn’t want leave.

Yep the likelihood Parsons was going to sit out drove decision . I also agree Jethro didn’t want to trade him.

But have no indications others in front office had to convince him.

I think several in the front office wanted to trade him months earlier because it was the smart move.

You don't pay $45 million a year to a defensive player who cannot help make your team's defense good. That's not bashing him, he's a great player, but rather the reality of the situation.

Despite how good he was, he didn't help the 2024 defense from being one of the worst in the league that year, so trading him at worst was going to keep a bad defense bad, not turn a good one bad.

That sounds more like a fans analysis than anything we heard from front office or coaching staff.

And Id add trading him turned a bad defense worst. Historically bad. 2024 wasn’t helped losing Dak . But previous 2 seasons with Parsons defense was better. And his pressure causing havoc was a big part of that helping us to playoffs.

Also the 45 per is often over hyped as Cap hits are much less. The good news is his value should help us rebuild the defense but one season and missed playoffs has already been wasted.

I shared my opinion. Just because your opinion is different does not make mine and others you disagree with "fan perspectives" and yours somehow more credible as we all get our information from the same sources.

Outside of drafting Prescott (at the time), I think trading Parsons was probably the best move this team made in the last 10-15 years. Parsons is a great player but even as good as he was for the Cowboys, he couldn't make this defense better.

And yes, he helped this team get to the playoffs, but he was making $4-5 million per year when he did that. If he would have taken $20-25 million, of course it would have been smart for the Cowboys to resign him.

He wanted $45 million though (and he got it so he was justified in asking for that much). I'm just glad the Packers paid it and not the Cowboys and I'm also happy they got the two #1 picks in return as well.

Understood but his cap hit last year was under 10 million and this year under 20 million.

And next year 27 all in your acceptable range. Not until his 4th year in 2028 will be 42 million which of course you renegotiate, etc or is time to trade .

The 45 per is just a talking point not real cap hits which directly impact roster building.

And I’d argue he did make our defense better. And it was much worse without him.

Not directed at you but I’m not sure we all do compile our info from same sources and or how we interpret could be questionable based on our positions.

I'm familiar with the cap structure from his contract as I discussed that several times after the trade. Green Bay did a great job with it in fact.

The truth is this team needed two things more than it needed Parsons.

It needed two first round draft picks which come with rookie contract costs and not paying a defensive player $45 million per year no matter how it's stretched out.

As good as he was, he just wasn't good enough to elevate the entire defense. The Cowboys had him all season in 2024 and the team was near the bottom of the league in defense.

That wasn't his fault of course but one defensive player, no matter how good or even great they are, cannot elevate a bad defense on their own. That's just the reality of defense players.

Certainly can’t elevate as much when continue making other bad draft picks like in 1st round with Taco and Mazi.

While I’d agree receiving 2 1st rounds presents an excellent opportunity to overcome assuming we hit on those picks and the impacts made thereof.

I’d still continue to argue that Parsons did make our defense better . Singling out 2024 doesn’t tell entire story. Causing havoc and creating pressure helped mask other weaknesses like in secondary.

How our defense totally collapsed last year was a great indication how he did elevate defense. Was it enough. No but as we agree more help and better draft decisions were needed.

Greater staffs and organizations would continue attempting to build around such talents instead of starting over. Especially with a seasoned veteran QB and offense ready to contend now.

Good news is it provides us an opportunity to overcome if we make good decisions. Hopefully better ones than in previous drafts with 1st round bust as mentioned.
