Cowboys Over-Performed?

Amari Cooper changed this season. Pay the man. We got the 4th overall pick in the draft through a mid season trade.

Dak was set up to fail with no no.1 WR, no no.1 TE, and no no.1 C. Dak and Zeke were a struggling hot mess until they got the AC working.

The article's point is that this team wasn't as good as people thought and could revert to non-playoff status next year. The analysis shows that the team likely played like an 8 win team and essentially just got lucky.

Not exactly sure how this is a "positive" article for Garrett. In fact, it likely speaks to the opposite.

The problem is you misunderstood the premise ESPN was pushing here. They were not saying that Garrett elevated a mediocre team to a good one. They are saying this team played like a mediocre team when you look at the stats and basically had the breaks go our way resulting in a better record than we should have had.

It's up to the reader to decide how much stock they want to put into that analysis.
 
Currently waiting for Philmonroe and SoupcanSam to come in and blame Dak for the entire season and how everyone around him supposedly helped us get to 10-6.

This season Zeke averaged 88 ypg before Cooper and 90 ypg after Cooper.

Definitely made a difference for Dak, though. He's had six 300+ yard passing games in his 3 year career. Half of them came after Cooper's arrival.

I read the article as if I actually knew the facts as a Cowboys fan.

The running game's production went down with Cooper on the roster.

Prescott was struggling not Zeke. Real talent rarely struggles.
 
I thought this team would win about 5 games this year. So even with Cooper added midseason I'd have to say they over achieved because of our great coaching.

Unless you're willing to absolve JG of blame when things go bad, you pretty much have to give him credit when things go well. Can't have it both ways.

I'll give him credit for changing a bit after the Houston game and becoming more aggressive, but he should not have started 3-5.
Garrett isn't as bad as I make him put to be, but if he stays to form and follows up a decent season with a bad season, he should be gone and Jerry is to blame for bringing him back in the first place.
We need an innovative offensive mind if Dak is to improve, he is not suited for Garretts offense.

With no number 1 WR that the organization did not replace and Freddie out with a rookie guard that was expected to lean on his experience?
 
Most of the time when teams have a lot of close wins, it is natural to assume that it might end up in a regression the following season if things remain constant. That is why it is important that the brass don't stay complacent. Change nothing, this is likely a six-eight win team.
