Cowboys Over-Performed?

It's positive because he took a young and inexperienced team to the divisional round, much like he did in 2016 with a rookie qb and Rb, the team lost its center(heart of OL) they won games, they started an undersized rookie guard, they won games, they changed OL coach, won games, lost their starting TE, they won games, lost their starting LG, won games.

Except that wasn't the point of the article.

You guys are trying to claim the article said something it did not. And if anything, it's more negative than positive because it states that the Cowboys are a prime candidate to regress in 2019 because their record in 2018 was better than the stats would indicate their record should have been.

Now if you guys want to disagree with the overall metrics and conclusion of the article, that's fine. But pretending that the article is somehow a positive piece on Garrett is peculiar.

The article's point is that this team wasn't as good as people thought and could revert to non-playoff status next year. The analysis shows that the team likely played like an 8 win team and essentially just got lucky.

Not exactly sure how this is a "positive" article for Garrett. In fact, it likely speaks to the opposite.

The article has a point.

Our biggest win after the bye was 8 points. Our two losses were by 14 and 23 points. We were actually outscored by 3 points after the bye.

The entire premise of the article is saying that Dallas performed at a mediocre level. They did not over perform. 10 wins was very fortunate based on their level of play. After that point the article shows historical data suggesting that Dallas will regress to the mean next year. Not trying to be rude, but I don/t think you fully grasp the point of the article.
"Overachieved" would be a better term than "over performed".

This was a 5-win team that saw its defense grow up quickly and dramatically. Hitting on Vander Esch and Jaylon's health gave this team a huge lift.

The offense was mostly dreadful, but the defense allowed it to hang around. Plodding, ugly wins, but 10-6 in the end.

No as usual your agenda driven Bs is highlighted. What happens next year has nothing to do with the coaching job this year where he won 10 games he shouldn't have. Going by this Article. Each year is different , ask the Eagles.

Garrett plays 50-50 ball and it could always break either way but 5 wins was always too low.

Also, a lot of people didn't see the improvement with the defense. We played top 5 defense almost all year so of course we did well once our offense finally picked it up with Cooper.

The organization shouldn't be applauded for the Fans and media's wrong expectations before the season.

Exactly, its like someone gets paid to intentionally spin the terrible results garrett has given us for over 9 years .

Even with the level of play, THEY WON 10 GAMES THEY SHOULDN'T HAVE .
The coach has to get credit for it, just as he would if they lost those 10

Rewarding a coach for a lucky season is not wise. (I call the season lucky based off the information provided in the linked article)

This is how the haters play, that's their rule, when it's bad it's JG, when it's good, it's everybody else....lol
I'm not a JG apologist, but fair is fair.

Again, you still clearly don't get the point of the article. It wasn't saying the talent was an 8 win roster that Garrett turned into a 10 win team. It was saying the ROSTER PLAYED LIKE AN 8 WIN TEAM based on the stats and results but somehow won 10 games.

The only person exhibiting an agenda driven thought here is you, trying to turn something that isn't about Garrett into a positive piece on Garrett.

And on another note............ I think it's downright hilarious that NOW all of a sudden, this wasn't that talented a team that Garrett "coached up". I think it's a fairly safe assumption that if I go back into August of 2018, I'll find posts from you pissing on people that would suggest the Cowboys roster isn't that good and that you went after posters that said the Eagles or other teams were a better teams.

LOL sure they did. It's always an excuse on why they can't win a playoff game. The pieces were once again in place to go further than they did, but of course they got beat handily instead. 270 yards on the ground in a playoff game with a trip to the CG on the line. but at least the team never gives up. lol Did they show up? Welcome to January. Every time, same exact garbage. unprepared, outcoached and outplayed. Still trying to master clock management. lol What a clown. Absolutely mind numbing that people still defend this garbage. Save these ridiculous comments for next January. You could use them then too. and the year after that and the year after that.

I agree with much of that, but when you look at the Tennessee, Indianapolis, and first Washington games, you can see how fundamentally flawed the team was.

It averaged 20 lousy points a game in the most prolific offensive season in NFL history. This thing could easily go from 10-6 to 6-10 next season.

Truly good teams don't get shut out, and they don't get manhandled at home by mediocre teams. They don't go 16 quarters straight with only touchdowns in a couple of them.

That's why Garrett and Dak shouldn't be extended until they follow this season up with a far better one next year.

I'm going by the article too, I don't think it's lucky, but going by the article, it's a heck of a job to win win you're not suppose to.

I attribute more wins to the defense being better than expected and the schedule being weaker than expected.

I know what the article says, to win 10 games yoi shouldn't have no matter how you won them is kudos for the coach. No matter if you want to admit it or not. I don't care if they won them by 1

They were barely losing games.

It goes back to the 50/50 brand of football. It was going against us early on. We were terrible on the road too.

I agree that it could go either way because that's how Garrett plays. It helps us when we play a team like New Orleans but hurts us when we play a team inferior to us.

You clearly don't know what the article says if you keep pushing this angle of this article being proof of the job Garrett did. If you want to say Garrett did a really good job, great. But that wasn't the point of this article and to jump into this thread to use this article as support for that position is strange.

The article really has zero to do with the actual talent on the roster or the coaching job the coach did.

To me that is ones view depending what people predicted to start the season. Many here predicted 5 to 6 wins, you would think they would claim this team exceeded their expectation but does not seem to be the case. Myself I predicted this team would win the NFC East I figured that would take a 11-5 or 10-6 record so Cowboys lived up to what I felt they would do. Post season it was great to see them beat the Seahawks but just could not get over the hump the following week. I do keep in mind this is a young team and hopefully with a some addition through FA and the draft this team can get over that hump. I fully expect them to challenge this next season.

With the talent we have and we have to ask "over performed?" no, we re a laughing stock, the end.

From your lips to God's ears.

I am hoping for another TE and maybe a FS (cough, cough).
