2nd round pick for Ertz. Do it

Not much discussion on compensation that I read. One of the radio shows talked about it and it seemed most were thinking something like 2nd round + something else............

That's crazy talk, but likely where this thread originated. At least now I know it wasn't just a troll job.

Thanks.

FWIW, it has been floated by a couple in their media about trading Ertz................. it hasn't gotten much traction but the logic is that they have an Ertz clone in Goeddert and with their cap issues and the likelihood they will lose key players like Graham and Hicks and others, having multiple high round picks (they already have a first and two second rounders in this draft) will allow them to quickly fill other holes with high level draft picks.
It makes sense for them to trade Ertz. He's not an explosive playmaker, and with the way that Wentz relies on him, it slows them down. He's kind of like Witten in that way. There's no reason that Goeddert couldn't give them the same thing.

I mean, would you trade Ertz for, say, Brandon Graham and, Jamel Dean, if you have Goeddert to replace Ertz? Because I'd make that trade every time.

Maybe because Witten was here during both Martellus and Escobar, having Pro Bowl seasons?

And Escobar was a mistake from day one. Never worth where the Cowboys drafted him (ahead of the best in the game Travis Kelce by the way, nice work guys!)
Witten being here had nothing to do with the staff not knowing how to use TEs as weapons.

Escobar and Bennett were mistakes because the Cowboys didn't know how to use them. It's not like Trey Burton is a superior talent to Esco. The problem is that this staff ONLY knows how to use Jason Witten, they have no idea how to use athletes at that spot.

Oh brother...

Seriously? Where is the great Escobar right now? Who is he tearing it up for? How many more things do you want to be wrong about today?

Somehow, the entire league has failed to see the greatness of Gavin Escobar that you do.
:lmao:

Are you guys related?

Let Dallas get Dallas. That guy almost beat the Cowboys with that long run.

Is this only because we do not have a 1st to offer that they would turn down? I'd rather offer that 2nd to KC for Mahomes.

Did I say Escobar is great? Did I even say he's good? No. But he was athletic enough that he could have been used a heck of a lot differently than he was. They drafted, essentially, a big WR, and tried to turn him into a blocker. Of course it failed.

Please tell me how this offensive staff is good at involving a TE in the passing game. Jason Witten made an entire career running Y-option. That had NOTHING to do with the coaching staff.

Pass. This is a pretty good draft for TEs. Smith, Wilson, or one of those Iowa TEs should be available. I think TE and S are the first 2 picks so they could get a starting quality guy in Round 2.

Better also sure up the DT position in FA then or we will be doing the same thing next SB.

You're trying (and failing) to criticize th Cowboys because Escobar didn't work here. The fact is that he never work anywhere, and he's out of the league. That's not a "Cowboys failed to use him" problem, it's a "that guy sucks!" Problem. If you want to blame the Cowboys for something, blame them for drafting Escobar at all, that was the mistake.

OK, you go ahead and continue to look foolish on this. If that's your goal? Mission accomplished.

I don't need to waste time trying to justify reality.

In fairness, this sounded like pie in the sky talk from Eagles fans (on compensation).

It most certainly does. He's not going anywhere. No team is trading away their top offensive performer and quarterback's security blanket, much less to a division rival!

So you can't answer, b/c you don't know. Cool.

The way this offense uses TEs, they only need to be serviceable as receivers. They have 2 right now who fit that mold.

I'll ask again. How does this offense use TEs so that a better receiving TE would make the offense better? What do they do schematically where that would matter? Which play designs are dependent on a talented TE?

No it's not, because this offense doesn't use TEs as a weapon. Swaim & co. are plenty reliable for what we ask TEs to do - which is block and be a checkdown.

We couldn't use Martellus or Escobar, who were great athletes at the position. Why does anybody think we'd be able to do that with Ertz or anyone else?

We couldn’t use those two because of Witten.

Witten was missed this season. A reliable target. The tight end position has always been a fixture for this offense.

Cooper for a 1st round pick was a winner, lets keep this trade train rolling Jerry....go grab Ertz for a 2nd!
Many in the league would consider Ertz even more valuable than Cooper.
So good luck with that.
