Cowboys Over-Performed?

What makes you think they're well coach. They make mistakes, you don't watch them as closely as the Cowboys, in the end they come out on top most of the time and the mistakes are forgotten. When they were being talked about being done, weren't they making mistakes?

LOL.

19 Years coaching in NE.

- 13 AFC Champ game appearances
- 9 AFC Champ game wins
- 5 Super Bowl wins
- Made the AFC Champ game the last 8 seasons

But yeah, they probably aren't that well coached and not better coached than we are. Good point.

Their players are all self motivated.

Edit: That was sarcasm.

I see nothing wrong with being optimistic and thinking the team will improve from last season. We had half a season with no real WR threats, out TE's didn't come on until later in the season, coaching changes and the O line was struggling.

I'm not a huge JG fan, but to start 3-5 with all of that is pretty encouraging.

Now let's ask you this, would Bb have the same success on Cleveland if everything was the same ? Remember in 1996 he was fired after going 5-11, when a lot of folks thought that team should've been in the playoffs.
I don't know enough about the Browns back then to give an honest opinion. I can say I doubt Brady would've developed as he did under Garrett. I don't see any of those Patriots teams scheming mismatches or exploiting teams weaknesses under Garrett as they do with BB.

He doesn't deserve any credit for leading the team to an over-performing season. #SMH

Why after a decade building the program is the team no better than 8-8?

Sure, give him credit for coaching an 8-8 team to 10 wins but why is the team 8-8 caliber after a decade of program building?

That is the question not answered.;)

The team wasn't supposed to win 10 games if you're taking that stance. He took a team that wasn't supposed to win and won. How is that hard to see?

Why is his team not supposed to win 10 games?

He has had a decade to build the team and it is basically 8-8 caliber?

Not surprising the Garrett jock riders are ignoring this question like ebola:laugh:

It's not the same team from a decade ago and its not even close.

Which has nothing to do with the overall point.

But like always you find a random side point and bang on it thinking it helps your case.

The fact Phillips lost the team after three years and still took the team as far as Garrett has should tell you something.

In other words Philips wasn’t a good coach. And yet accomplished in 3 full seasons almost as much as Garrett has in 8 full seasons.

So why wasn't Garrett fired after 3 seasons . Wade was?

Follow the damn thread, the article implies they were lucky to win 10 games based on how they played. Way to come in lost....lol

Now you are just trolling me, aren't you?

Wade was fired because the team tanked in Year 4. It was clear that Phillips simply wasn't that good of a HC and a change was required. But............ in his three full years of coaching, he accomplished almost the same things Garrett has done in 8 years.

In other words, if you want to believe Phillips wasn't that good a head coach, it's bizarre to argue that Garrett is significantly better. Further, in 8 years, Garrett has taken this team no further in the playoffs than Phillips did - a divisional round appearance.

You are actually hurting your own argument here and apparently don't even realize it.

Which has nothing to do with the point. You seemingly are claiming/insinuating that NE isn't that much better coached than the Cowboys. What Belichick did in Cleveland really isn't applicable to a discussion about the difference between NE and the Cowboys.

But here again is another example of you just harping on random offshoot topics in a discussion.

But if you want to bring Cleveland into it, yes, he only had one winning season in his five years there and one playoff appearance (he won a playoff game there by the way).

But his 8th year coaching, however, he had won a SB already. Garrett still hasn't seen a conference title game in his 8th year.

In the end, this is pretty simple. If some Cowboys fan wants to think Garrett is unfairly treated and a better coach than many think he is, fine. But when a Cowboys fan tries to argue that Jason Garrett is probably close or basically Bill Belichick in terms of coaching quality, that's when the crazy train should probably pick that fan up.

Because that might be the dumbest thing ever uttered in the history of this board.

It's OK, the desperation is evident and on clear display.

But I do give him credit for keeping his cool in a Kobayashi Maru exercise.

Of course it does, he should be able to walk in any situation and do the same. He's the same person, I hardly doubt he's the great BB in Cleveland . The question was if you drop JG in the same situation in New England. He has Brady and all the rosters, the same staff around him, the same Owner would the success be the same. I stayed probably close, now nobody knows you can't say he wouldn't because who knows how another situation would've been different for Garret. because there's no way you can rewrite history. But On the same hand in another hypothetical dropping Brady in the Cowboys huddle, 2014,2016,2018. One could believe the Cowboys would have 3 superbowls.. nobody knows how opportunity or a different situation changes ones legacy. If I took a different path than I did after HS, I may have been a NFL player, considering my backup, played 4 years in the nfl.

I mean there's a debate of who's responsible for the Pats success .

1) Unless Brady plays defense as well, it's unlikely the 2014, 2016 and 2018 Cowboys teams win SBs. Why? Because in all three of those seasons, it wasn't the offense that necessarily lost those games. It was the defense. In 2014, our offense moved the ball on GB, but the defense became porous in the 2nd half. In 2016, Prescott played really well but again, the defense got shredded by Aaron Rodgers. This year? The defense got mauled by the Rams, giving up 270 yards rushing. So this idea that we were Tom Brady away from three Super Bowls is really far fetched when you look at how we lost all our playoff games.

2) Your entire premise again seems to be that head coaching doesn't matter. That if you plop any guy into NE, whether that be Garrett or Chan Gailey or Johnny Hightops from Permian High, they would have reached similar success as Belichick did there. In other words, basically all coaches are the same, some just get lucky and get better situations than others. That's patently absurd. I mean are you really trying to argue that all coaches are basically equal?

It's utterly preposterous to suggest Jason Garrett would have mimicked the success of Belichick in NE.

Do you know that? Do you know what might have been? No you don't, you can guess, just like me, in no way you know.

So in the first 10 seconds, Wiley says Belichick is playing human chess better than any other coach in history. In other words, no one is coaching at his level. Yes, you need really good players to run your system but Wiley says what we have all been saying. Coaching still matters. You seem to think it doesn't. You seem to think that Belichick isn't "playing human chess like any other coach in history", rather Jason Garrett could do the same thing.

Better yet, what do you think Marcellus Wiley would say if you asked him if Jason Garrett could repeat what Belichick has done?

And in the second video, Warner says again, in the first 15 seconds that Bill Belichick is probably the greatest coach that ever coached. But according to you, Garrett is roughly his equal. Again, what do you think Warner would say if you posed the question to him - would Jason Garrett have had the same success as Belichick in NE?

LOL. Come on, dude.

Do you know that? Do you know what might have been? No you don't, you can guess, just like me, in no way you know.

Yeah, I think we can make a pretty fair assumption that if Jason Garrett had coached in NE for the last 19 years, he would not have won 5 SBs and coached in 13 AFC conference champ games.

And I bet if you polled a crap ton of football experts they'd wonder who the fool was that even tried to bring up that comparison.
