My future self? He wouldn't pay them to care. He'd set it up where if something happened to me, all the money would go away. My health and well-being would be crucial to their financial situation.
I don't know what timeline your lookin' at!

That's what's fun about these scenarios. If you guys did travel back to change the event of buying the Cowboys, does it really affect this timeline? Or would you just create an alternative timeline.

I think it would create an alternative timeline. There are too many variables to change the current one as we know it. Just by you showing up in the past would alter the course of everything in that timeline, i.e. the butterfly effect.

I don't think if you went back and bought the Cowboys that we would all be sitting here in the same manner, having only seen a difference in who owns the Cowboys franchise. I imagine everything would be different.

That's true.

Or something would prevent changes from occurring. You were meant to go back in time but what you end up accomplishing was not what you planned but what was supposed to happen.

"Supposed to happen" implies a higher power at work, in which case, the whole concept of changing history would be nullified.

I've heard scenarios/paradoxes about that too. Possible laws of the universe.
Example, say you go back in time to save somebody from dying in a car wreck. Either:
A) The universe will prevent you from reaching them. Flat tire, no access to transportation, stuck somewhere, jailed, etc. etc.
B) You save them only for them to die another way shortly thereafter. You save them from the car wreck but then they are involved in a plane crash, a fatal fall, a botched robbery, etc. etc.

The possibilities seem endless!

And I get this. Goes with my post above kind of, about the "laws of the universe". One could imply a deity or maybe there are just written laws inside the mathematics of the universe that just cannot be broken. Hard to say.

...The newer version of the Time Machine a few years back had that same scenario.
No matter how many times he tried to go back and save is girlfriend/wife? , H.G. Wells failed to save her because she would just die another way!

Why is it always best case to kill the grandpa?

What if grandma meets someone else and has a different line of children/grand children?

What if one of those kids go after the mystery man who killed grandma's first husband?

They'll be going after a ghost that never existed.

wow I just seen this post. uncanny ''timing'' no pun intended. I\we had a discussion with an retired Princeton Prof and no they didn't have crazy white hair, at a cook out this past summer. a old bet was mentioned and explained, she was then asked to confirm or laugh at this theory...
identical twins had a bunk bed, if they could somehow fall asleep at exactly the same moment, the one that sleeps on top would get more sleep than the other on the bottom....
confirmed. your proximity to a gravitational force can slow down time as we measure its passing or presents. she added that the old NASA space shuttle program. the crafts clocks would be synced to the national atomic clock on departure. upon return they where ever so slightly off. GPS satellites and anything orbiting is constantly being re set according to her.
relevance of gravity and time proception fascinating to say the least.
