What's the plan with Mike White?

I too have been wondering about Mike White. Nothing seems to be being talked about as far as he is concerned. We know he is sitting in the garage all shiny and new just waiting to be driven on a sunny day. So what gives?

He was a 5th round draft pick, and for now a 3rd string QB - did you really think he would be talked about as a top prospect who is just waiting to break out?

All the stupid decisions we've made over the last 25 years?

No, I'm talking about of players who really impress and the team cuts them. We all know the team has made bad decisions, but that doesn't mean we can pin everything on them our minds can make up.

It gets really old having to spell everything out for you. This comment exemplifies my disdain for Jerry and my confidence in his decision making abilities. Would it make you feel better if I added a footnote stating that my comment may not necessarily apply directly to a decision concerning Mike White?

This really is going to be a long offseason around here.

Yes, it exemplifies your disdain by applying whatever complaint to him you can fabricate in your mind. There are a lot of people that don't like Jerry as our GM either, including myself, but who are still able to base complaints on what he has done wrong rather than try to discredit him based on something we made up that he hasn't done.

I'll tell you what: in the future, I will try really, really hard to remember to put disclaimers on all of my posts, just for you!

Or maybe just be reasonable to begin with. Here's a rule of thumb: If Jerry has a history of doing something in particular, then it's fair to express concern that he may do it again. But if he has no history of a particular action, then it isn't fair to attribute that action to him anyway.

Terrific arm and a tough kid. Took a beating in college and still put up big numbers.

When he's truly ready, I'd love to see him get time with the ones in preseason. Can't judge these guys when they're playing with garbage.

There aren’t that many quality QBs to go around, and that’s especially true picking one as late as the 5th round. What would have been better in the 5th round, taking a more traditional pocket passer they felt was better than 5th round talent and they felt good had a chance to be a quality backup, or stretching to take someone they felt was more of a 6th to 7th round talent that they didn’t feel as good about because he was more similar to Dak? Besides, it’s not as if the offensive scheme can only accommodate one or the other.

They're not big on having the offense "accommodate" any player. "Next man up". That's why it's *more* important for them to get players to fit the scheme.

So, how did Dak succeed in 2016 with an offense that Romo had been running? And the offense today is still the same basic offense as 2016 and before, but with a few added things to work with Dak's strengths like rollouts and QB keepers, and options etc. It doesn't take revamping the entire offense to go from a Romo style QB to a Dak style QB, to a White style QB.

And at the end of the day, it's a 5th round pick. Nobody is expecting a 5th round QB to be a major impact player, and odds aren't good he will have much impact at all, so the best a team can do is choose the guy they feel has the best chance to overcome those odds and actually be able to play at the NFL level. The Seahawks signed Paxton Lynch, and obviously he is nothing like Russell Wilson. Josua Dobbs is more like Prescott and nothing like Ben Roethlesberger. Gino Smith is nothing like Phillip Rivers. What all these teams are doing is looking for someone who can play.

What he needs is improvement over last year
I’d love to see him be ready to be the backup but that’s not likely
The kid has the physical stuff you want, now it’s just the mental part
I’d like to see him with ones but I’d also like to see much more Dak with the ones this camp
I think last year it was a mistake to not play a virtually new receiving group and your QB more

I think instead of trying to adhere to your expectations, I'll probably continue to post as I see fit. I thought the addition of disclaimers to let you know precisely what I am thinking and referring to would make you happy, but alas.

Exactly. We see them come in at garbage time in the 4th quarter and their careers look either limitless or over based on a couple series.

And I'll continue to post as I see fit, so you are back to posting as you want, and I'm back to responding if I feel the desire to do so.

I really wouldn't have guessed that being in the NFL a year boosts your height two inches.
Guess I should have stuck with football.

And I have no idea where throws a rocket is coming from after watching him.
Brees grew an inch or two on paper. Did you see White hit that crossbar? If they make that worth 4 points he'll be a star.

And Dak was.....

And Dak was the starting QB through 16 games and a playoff game. Had the injuries not occurred that thrust him into a starting role he would have finished his rookie season without any notice just like White did.
