The problem with fans and the status quo is the thinking that this team who can play some decent games every once in a while due to some star power we have will consistently be able to beat 4 playoff teams in a row.

I say four, because I doubt they're good enough to be the 1st or 2nd seed in this NFC.

The hallmark of Garrett's teams is the ability to win games against bad teams and fortunately for Garrett, the NFC East is extremely weak right now.

We went 5-1 in the division, but 5-5 outside of the division. The thing is, I absolutely expect this team to be demonstrably better next year, but I still don't expect any level of consistently at a high level which the Cowboys have never had under Garrett. It's why he has never reached the NFC Championship. That requires a level of consistency that Garrett does not possess. It's why he has 8.5 years as head coach but only 3 playoff births with a playoff record of 2-3.

McVay performed terribly in the playoffs, but in two years has had his team through 4 playoff games... that is one shy of Garrett in 6.5 less years....

I just find it stunning that people can actually defend his record and this mediocracy.

2014 we had a shot to go deep in the playoffs, but we lost to Rodgers in GB (controversially)

2016 we were a good young team that came out flat after the 1st round bye, and barely lost to Rodgers at home

2018 was a transition year with the WR corps, new TEs, and a bunch if new assistant coaches. They started slow and came on the second half of the season but lost bad on the road to the NFC champs.

I don’t disagree with your post— I just think Garrett’s mediocrity is a result of more than just his coaching. There has been some bad luck involved— and the FO also needs to own the fact that they screwed up the defense for years when they had Romo.

The D they trotted out against GB in 2014 was simply a liability against a guy like Rodgers. That is not on Garrett— that is on the FO and their personnel strategy

WR by committee and Alexander hire cost us at least 2 wins IMO. Two wins that could've been the difference of a playoff bye.

I agree.

Scapegoating gets to be a science around here.

We all want to point to a single cause for our problems

Deciding Garrett is the reason is too neat.

And it's mostly a veiled shot at the Jones.

Other teams have good players and coaches, too.

This league has just changed alot.

The officiating and league office is in trouble under Goodell.

Zeke's suspension cost us way more than anything Garrett did or did not do.

Linehan has called bad games in big games for us.

So it's had alot of reasons.

This season showed me alot.

I remain positive despite the ongoing negativity.

No prob for me.

It's just a game and high entertainment.

Not life and death.

The officiating is as inconsistent and frustrating as I can remember. I am not a conspiracy guy by any stretch— but some of the calls (and non calls) are so bad at times that is getting hard not to wonder if the fix isn’t indeed in.

Goodell certainly has the power and money to fix the problem— so it begs the question why there isn’t more accountability and why the NFL refuses to use full time officials that are the best in the industry?

I digress. Despite some serious flaws and questionable FO decision making— we have a good young defense, a great OL if T Fred gets back to form, a stud RB, and a formula that can win games and compete when we execute.

Can we get more consistent execution overall? Will a new playcaller boost the offensive production? Will Dak develop his game and improve his mechanics next year?

The team has questions that need to be answered— but we are far from scraping the bottom of the barrel in terms of talent.

The teams issues aren’t with coaching. No matter how many threads we want to start about it.

I actually blame Garrett for that GB loss! The reason is he ran Murray into the ground during the season without rotating Randle in enough. Some will say Randle wasnt any good but he played good when he came in and should of been a bigger part of the offense. Murrays fumble is what the cost the Cowboys that game and to me he was tired when he hit that hole you could drive a car through. A fresher player is either gone untouched to the endzone or holds onto the ball. I see the same running a guy into the ground with Zeke also.

It's the hallmark of the "We do what we do" philosophy. We bet that our players can simply out execute the players on other teams to victory. Our philosophy is that coaches have no job to do beyond giving players a scheme and watching them execute it. The Don't Blame Garrett philosophy.

Romo often could out execute. More recently, the oline often could. But when you hit the playoffs, the rosters get better, and we can't.

Marinelli's "bend but don't break" is an extension of this. It counts on the QBs of other teams making enough mistakes for us to win. It doesn't fool them into making mistakes. It doesn't pressure them into making mistakes. It tries to out execute them, counting on the other team to make mistakes before you do.

Meanwhile, Marinelli got out executed *before* our playoff losses in 2016 and 2018. He was really pantsed in both games. For the first half in 2016, he had no answer to Rodgers going hurry up. In 2018, he had no answer to the Rams reading our dline. Pantsed.

On offense, teams adjusted to us in 2017, playing press man on our wideouts, and daring Dak to beat them. Linehan never adjusted. We just brought in a better wr. And our 7-2 run? We were actually outscored by opponents during that run.

Our average points per game only went up 2 points, to 22. That's middle of the pack for the NFL. With arguably the best RB in the league.

Murray put the ball on the ground regularly during that 2014 season. Peppers made a great play and caught him unexpectedly. Murray saw nothing but green ahead of him and his eyes got big and he then he got surprised by a good player that made a big time play in a big time moment in a big game. The fumble is not on Garrett.

2014 and 2016 losses to GB were a direct reflection of horrid coaching by Garrett. Team was unprepared both times with horrid game plans. Then it was the horrid game management of Garrett down the stretch on the decisions he made with timeouts and leaving too much time on the clock for Rogers. In fact he made the EXACT same errors EXACTLY the same the 2nd time. As if he didn't learn the first time.

2018 was a transition year at WR because Garrett planed it that way. Receiver by committee and rotating guys in and out with no real starters was just dumb. It was Garretts decision to do that and his offense that was the problem. Then of course we all saw the predictable, conservative, unimaginative offense they rolled out EXACTLY the same against the Rams that they did against Seattle.

Garrett is the one constant in all this failure. Then of course when anything major goes wrong the team folds and we have a bad season.

The problem with Fans is most don't understand Jerry and what he wants out of his HOBBY THE DALLAS COWBOYS most . HE WANTS THE CREDIT everything else is secondary

He hires and sticks with a coach in Garrett with no experience when he could break the bank on the best . In 30 freakin years we don't use a 1st round pick on a QB to develop and make no provision for Romos retirement even after his back is proven shot

We draft a guy in the 4th rd as an after thought and he has Just enough talent to catch Jerrys eye and become his next economical project that everybody missed

Now we have Kellen Moore another completely unknown gamble to run our offense but if he is the football mind some say it will make Jerry look like the football guy he craves to be known as .

The 3 most important positions on the team are gambles Jerry is going to see through and play out to look like the football guy he wants to be . He has just enough success with longshots like Jaylon and Randy to give him credibility and he owns the team .

Cowboy Fans in this era need to ADJUST EXPECTATIONS and understand its JERRYS HOBBY SO NONE OF IT HAS TO MAKE SENSE only to Jerry

So debating over what could be done is fine WHINING AND CRYING OVER it is just a plague on all of us that understand Jerry and why things are done the way they are . YEP ITS A BITTER PILL.

Jerry agrees that Garrett's offense is the big problem. First thing he did was fire linehan and brought in a new kid for "fresh ideas" to run the offense and "creativity". He also made if very very clear that Garrett would NOT be calling plays, as he requested, and was kicked to the curb, YET AGAIN. Jones clearly has more confidence in Moore then he does in Garrett. This was a direct attempt to bring Garrett even further away from the offense and get away from Garretts boring, out dated influences.

And you obviously just aren't into the team like many others. If it doesn't bother you enough then no big deal.

Maybe if Murray isn't run into the ground during the regular season, he has a little more zip through that hole and Peppers doesn't touch him.

But I don't see coaching as the big problem in that game. Sort of. Our big problem was just how low quality our dline was, particularly with Terrell McClain out. So many guys waiting to wash out of the league.

You could put this one on the GM. No quality on the dline. And the decision to franchise Spencer again, instead of moving on. Then the decision not to try and replace Spencer once he went down. Then the decision to actually play him - at 50% of the snaps! - during the GB game.

The decision to play Spencer goes on the coaches. Spencer never played another down in the NFL. He had nothing. We played him half the game.

Reminiscent of what we did with Glenn in 2007. We count on an injured player with nothing left to give, and come the playoffs, we pay for it.

Cleary Jerry is at fault for continuing to employ the puppet Garrett. But why is it Jerrys fault that some fans are too dumb to realize the value of a QB like Dak? And then they complain that we got the next franchise QB in the 4th round. Getting a QB like Dak in the 4th round should be hailed as one of the better moves in franchise history. Getting Romo as an undrafted FA being even better. The cluelessness of some fans is Jerry's fault? Some people just understand the game and the QB position. That isn't Jerrys fault.

My recollection is that we didn't really have an option but to run Murray. No depth. I also remember wishing we weren't running down Murray, so he had more left for the playoffs.

But it doesn't look like Randle was injured. We gave him 1 or 2 carries a game. Maybe it was just because I never considered Randle a decent RB, despite decent numbers. Didn't pass the eyeball test with me.

I wondered if we weren't playing him because of his arrest mid October. But no. He has stats for all but 1 game.

His wiki page is so bad. He's been stacking up arrests since he left.

Randle was handed the starting RB job for the Cowboys, behind a great oline. An oline that made McFadden the 4th RB in the league with only 10 starts. All that, and in a contract year. And he completely blew that chance.
