i like it. judith and negan are going to be the focus and i can't say that's a bad idea.

I agree with that take.

With Michonne's character leaving the series, it (the series) needs something.

Didn't know Michonne was leaving...wonder what they do with her. Reedus on the after show talked about a dark secret between him and her with the Xs on their backs.
The intro to the whisperers was good..I wonder if they kill one of those two captured.. I don't really care for that new guy, the music dude

On a side note, I hope they have Maggie in their back pocket to come back, her new show looks awful

i think maggie was always a "may return as things dictate. like you i didn't know michonne was leaving also.

last night was good. a solid intro to a new group and a new direction. some pieces were put together last series and this one is building off that just fine.

What’s the future for Negan?

Can they? Would they? make him heir apparent to “Rick’s way”? President of the Savior’s 2.0?

I find it interesting.

Oh, and who let him out? A former “I am Negan” or Judith or someone who wanted to kill him?

Negan's door was left accidently unlocked.

In the graphic novel Negan was let out by someone not liking Rick's leadership... But that was the graphic novel.

I think you'll see Negan become the anti-hero of the group. He's never be fully accepted by the group but he's capable of doing the dirty work that others are either unwilling to do or those that were willing have left the show or have already been killed.

Like Negan's character or dislike his character– I believe his character is needed for at least the next couple seasons.

I did like the Daryl version of "Good cop/bad cop."

I gave the episode a 6.

At this point the characters are like family and overall it was an OK episode.

But it had very little of the juice that past 2nd-half premiers did...

Like in season 2, where the 2nd half premier was the post-barn-cleansing episode and everyone's emotions were raw. Herschel went on a bender in town, Rick (with Glenn) went to find him and two bad-guys showed up which caused Rick to have to act more like Shane.

Like in season 3, where the group had just rescued Glenn & Maggie from the Governor and Daryl was caught behind and forced into a thunderdome-fight with Merle, which was ultimately broken up by the group coming back and doing the rescue thing.

I agree. There have been too many top characters leaving the series and they need JDM's talents outside a 20x20 box.

My favorite part of it was turning the tide on the Whisperers on the covered bridge and giving them a taste of their own medicine.

I'm expecting a showdown and prisoner exchange in the next episode, or at least some talk about one and some threats.

I do wonder... does he really even want it?
Maybe short term?

It probably depends on what they infer money wise and what other offers are out there. As with Norman Reedus, other cast members leaving creates opportunities for those that remain to do better.

But it's reached the point where it's real-world actors deciding who lives and dies or stays and goes rather than the comic book any longer.

A huge MAJOR difference in the graphic novel as well is that Negan did not leave when he found it open. He stayed, sitting in his cell, till Rick arrived to prove to him that he was changed. It was a major effort on his part to try and be allowed to be part of Rick's new world.

Rick locked him back up but eventually let him out to live outside of the community. Negan went off and was a HUGE part in the start of the war with the Whispers, in the graphic novel.

I have yet to watch the episode and I'll be honest for the first time in the entire run of this series I have absolutely zero desire to do so. I didn't even bother to check and see if it was set up to DVR.

The decisions that led to killing off Carl and then 'killing' off Rick have absolutely drained any desire I had to continue to watch the show. I may eventually get caught up on it but as of now I have lost any motivation or intrigue to watch the show. I too had no idea that Michoinne is also leaving. So the show is just very quickly losing any of the characters that matter.

I'm sorry to hear that, I know what a fan you are from your previous posts. I always appreciate fandom and the enthusiasm and love for something, and it's always a shame to read about anyone losing that.

I guess that was the first flashback scenes while the apocalypse was just unfolding...that's one thing I wish they would have done more of over the seasons.
Enjoying so far too..although carol should have took Henry back with her, he's getting annoying.ha
