Great, then we can create another post about how much cap room we have while we don't win anything.
:banghead:
BOTH SIDES can get what they want if they are reasonable. No reason we cant keep Dlaw and not kill our cap.

love dlaw...but to destroy our cap and ability to sign our other players is a nonstarter for me. If he wants more than 65 mil, PASS.
He’s gonna get more than that
Dak’s gonna get more than some want to pay
Zeke is also
And so will smith and LVE
That’s just the market

Not for the crazy numbers you were talking about.

The rate is $20 million a year to keep him. You can decide your own opinion if you'd be in or out.

CANT KEEP THEM ALL AT THE MAX CAP HIT. SOMEONE will be out of luck. Its simple math. Dak..yes..I get it, hes the QB...we MUST PAY HIM. Zeke..short term, yes. DLAW isn't getting 70 mil guaranteed. PROMISE YOU THAT. The entire deal can't be more than 70 mil or it will crush any chance we have of keeping key players. We will be in cap hell.

Dallas needs to pay the man his market value for three reasons:

1. D Law balled out while injured this year and was a good soldier while playing under the tag. He is a top 3 DE right now in the NFL— pay him what he deserves

2. The philosophy the FO has established and communicated is that they want to build through the draft, develop their players, and sign their guys longterm that produce. If they let D Law walk— they lose credibility with players and the result could easily be a loss of trust that the FO will give their productive core players long term security in a very violent sport.

3. They lose further credibility with the fan base. You can’t tell us you will stay out of FA bc you want the cap to sign your best players— and then you let a guy like D Law walk. Fans will question their commitment to winning (more than they already do) and moves like this cement the narrative that the Jones family are only in this for money.

Bottom line: sign D Law for what he is worth. Honor your players when they produce and they will run through a brick wall for you.
End Post...

65mil would be my max contract offer. 25 mil guaranteed spread out over 5 years.

Just pay him a million per sack and a million per team win and be done with it.

Yall know nothing about the salary cap. Stop pretending you do.
none of us do..we aint experts..but what I do know is, WE HAVE A CAP. We cant be held at gunpoint by one player. LOVE DLAW...HE'S MY GUY, but I am not willing to break the bank.

He's the biggest of your "key players". And the one who has actually earned the money the most.

your right, and stud defensive ends like him don't come round often...but STILL..on one hand, we need to find a way to keep him. HE IS EXTREMELY important...but man..Im just weary of being in Cap hell again. I think both sides can meet in the middle. No way can we afford to pay him 70 mil guaranteed.

Yeah, don't really get the thinking. If you cripple your defense, what's the point of signing the other key players?

If you're lucky, you could replace DLaw in 2 or 3 years with a draft pick on a rookie contract. In FA, you won't get much of a discount. How much money are you saving once you factor in wasting 2 or 3 years of those other key players' salaries?

Would you feel better about $60 million? And essentially a $20 million a year deal for the next three years?
