keep 90, yes..within reason. That's the PATRIOTS WINNING MODEL. If we have learned anything, its thinking about whats best for the team, not just 1 player.

if the guy was special..Aaron Donald or Lawrence Taylor special, yes, Im gonna roll the dice on him and sign him no matter. BUT HE SIMPLY ISNT. He's in that next tier level of guys below Donald. Love the guys heart and work ethic, leadership. But when we need him most, he's invisible. We cant afford to break the bank on ANY PLAYER outside of QB. Qb is a different beast.

That might be true, but to get suspended means you have failed before . He was already fined 4 games for a failed test before . So it's not like this was a one time failed drug test.
NFL 1st offense for steroid use is 4 games suspension!

True, you are correct. He's was fined 4 games for substance abuse. Either way, we have a player we might sign to top $ who had been in both drug programs. Lol

Hmmm... back hasn't been an issue in 2 years, any sort of drug issue in 3, I'm thinking it's time to sign away. The onus do do so is compelling especially when you consider the draft resources put into the position the last 5 years and him being the only one who's not only note worthy but exceptional too!

Exceptional is where disagree. He's been good, but not great. Great in the first 4 games but ok the next 12. That's good, but great.

Back surgery before the 2016 season, before the 2017 season and shoulder now. Injurie don't tend to get better with age especially back.

With all that said, if he was a great or exceptional player id be more on board paying him top $. Getting half your sacks and tfl in the first 4 games and disappearing the rest of the year is not exceptional. Drops off bad in other categories too after the first 4 and defiantly after the 1st half. Not worth top $.

Theres alot more to playing de than just sacks which he's had 24 in the last 2 seasons. They're going to pay him handsomely. Might want to start getting use to it!

Hell the f*** no...just tag his a**!

If he sits out SO BE IT..pass rush is not why we lost to the Rams. We need a run stuffing DT either from FA or grab the best available at #58 or BOTH!

Gregory, Armstrong and Smith can all rush the passer and Taco can only improve IMO.

Tank's injury history and disappearing acts do not give me confidence to invest 100 million in him.

Nope, no way, no how...so count me as not on board this "100 million for Tank" train.

Not just sacks . He drops of after the 1st 4 games in all categories. He drops by half, close to half or a little more than half in most categories in the last 12 compared to the first 4. He's a Sept beast .

He's actually had 25 sacks. 13 of them in Sept and 3 in Dec. It's just not sacks. It's tfl, QB hits, tackles.

Tackles are a stat that = " there is a lot more to playing de than sacks". Past 2 season's, 42 tackles for avg of 5.2. Next 12 has 80 for 3.3. He had half (close)as many tackles in 8 games as he did in 24.

Sept compared to Dec. Sept, 42 tackles with 13 sacks. 5.2 tackles a game with 1.6 sacks a game. Dec, 22 tackles, half of Sept with 2.7 a game , 3 sacks 1/4 of what he did in Sept with .3 sacks a game.

The guy is a Sept beast, then falls off and by Dec is a dud.

As far as getting use to the fact that we'll pay him, 1. Not a gutanteee but I tend to agree with you. 2. I'll *****, cry, moan and grown for a few days but then it's on to the next cowboy topic and on to my own financial problems. Lol I have A LOT more than the cowboys. Lol

If repost feel free to delete.

Note to myself: Bye Bye.
How many seasons?

At 6 years, sure.

At 5 years, the guaranteed money has to come down big time.

The Cowboys philosophy on the defensive line isnt about having elite players, it's about a highly competitive squad, each player contributing to the point that the squad is considered elite.

Let's say you pay him big. Then he gets hurt in training camp, out for the season. Now what? You can't afford a quality replacement, you gave all the money to him.

What does the Patriots do? Unless they are a generational player, the Patriots let him go sign a giant contract elsewhere. For them, it's the system, not the player .

Unless, of course, that player is.....

It's not overstating it.

In 2017 he had 14.5 sacks. 7.5 of them came in the first 4 games. The 12 after(3/4) he had 7. He did more in sacks in 4 games than he did the rest of the year. He played like a double digit sack guy in the first 4 games and single digit sack guy for the next 12. TFL was the same thing. 8 in the first 4 games and 7 for the next 12 (3/4) Again, He did more in the first 4 than he did the next 12. QB hits were a bit better but still a big drop off. 11 in the first 4 and 15 in the next 12.

2018 wasn't any better. 10.5 sacks and 5.5 and half of them came in the first 4. The next 12 he had 5. Once again he did more in the first 4 than he did in the next 12. TFL in 2018, 8 in the first 4 and 7 for the next 12. Once again, He did more in the first 4 than he did in the next 12. QB hits once again was a bit better but a drop off. 9 in the first 4 and 14 the next 12. That's of over 2 a game for the first 4 and a bit over 1 game the next 12. Dropped half.

He disappears for 3/4 of the season. I realize there is more to de than sacks. But even in tfl he disappears . He drops of in his tackles also. I think he's a very good run stopping de and I'm more impressed with that than I am his pass rushing ability but he drops off in that too.

If I'm going to HAVE TO pay a guy who has great 4 games stretch it will be one who's has in the last 4 games not the first 4. Although it's not all about sacks, pass rushers biggest stat and what teams pay the on is sacks. It's not the only thing but it's the main thing. He has them overall but its a issue when he disappears for 3/4 of the season. Hes a beast in Sept with 13 sacks the past 2 years in Sept. He has 3 in the month of December COMBINE the past 2 years. Thats a issue.

Who do you replace him with? A rookie at #58 is not going to put up his numbers— regardless of what time of year the sacks come in.

Go sign a FA? Who and for how much? You could go cheaper— but you overpay for what you get in FA. D Law is rated as the #1 DE in FA— so if you let him walk, tell me your plan to replace him.

IMO— the guy is a beast on the DL. He played through constant double teams and chips and was the focus of the OL protection game in and game out because teams knew he could wreck a game.

Use his drop off in play to negotiate his contract down... but don’t let him simply walk without a plan to replace his production.

Let him walk for that much. Injuries, inconsistencies, both have been a thing for his entire career.
