Cowboyszoners over valuing our players

It is clear that Cowboyszoners over value our players as a general rule. We literally can't lose anyone, or the sky will fall!!!

We are finally at the spot where we should want to keep most of the guys on this team provided that the money is right. But you can't pay everyone what they want to stay and still field a team two or three years from now.

Williams needed to go. The cap number didn't match production.

Hurns was expected to be more of an impact player than he was, but him leaving won't hurt us.

Lee is done. Letting him go saves a ton of cap.

We need to try to keep the core of this team together, but not everyone who is a top performer will be retained unless some of them sign team friendly deals. That's why I don't expect to see Beasley back in a Cowboys uniform next year eaither.

I think Dak, Zeke, Amari, Jaylon, are locks to stick around.

That may not be the case with Byron, Tank, and Collins (RT). Probably at least one of those guys is no longer a Cowboy soon.

I wish people could be a little bit more objective in their evaluation of our roster. To them every Cowboy is top 5, when in reality few are. Maybe Fredbeard, Martin, Zeke and Tyron (at one time). The rest probably not.

Nice Post. You made through the whole thing without raggin on Dez. You're making progress!!!
Tank was drafted much later than Taco. While draft position matters you it's not an exact science. Gallup was a 3rd rounder and he is already better than Dez was his entire last three years.
nevermind.

The only way to replace a player and pay less is the draft and some positions are really tough
For example some want to let Dlaw walk, you aren’t replacing him at 58
If you want to let jones walk you better hope you can get a guy this year
I’ve never seen anyone wanting to keep Twill or even many wanting to keep Beasley at what he wants
I haven't seen anyone wanting to let Dlaw walk for nothing. If he walks, it won't be for nothing.

Actually, most teams’ fan bases tend to over-value their players somewhat. And a lot of FOs do the same.

Why? Because it’s easier to blame — and much easier to quickly replace — the HC and his entire staff, in regards to a team’s failings, than it is to admit that the roster was poorly assembled in the first place and might need years of rebuilding.

One exception might be — surprise! — the Pats, as I’d wager most of their fans would accept just about anything Belichick does, as far as personnel moves, since their team is almost always a threat to win the SB.

While I agree that draft position doesn’t matter.

Tank was only taken like 7 spots later than Taco was.

Actually there wasn’t that much difference in draft position. Taco was first round and D-Law 2nd round, but Taco was the 28th overall pick and D-Law was the 34th overall pick. But, you are right about it not being an exact science. That gets proven over and over again

We do? Well, no matter, you got my sights up. I’m pushing Noah Brown for President. His slogan will be “Make the Cowboys Great Again”. I’m not sure how that will play in Philly though.
Senator Byron Jones.

If you want to keep the bulk of your guys on the roster, you can't help but overpay occasionally. Top 10 guys generally get Top 5 money just because of the timing of player contracts.

I agree with the OP’s sentiment that Byron and Collins may not be retained. Tank will be here for the long haul though.

I wouldn't take LVE or Jaylon off the field for them either. 3 LBs in the base. 3 of them. The numbers work.

And for "nickel" I'd want to use Jaylon like an in the box SS as often as possible, blitzing or man coverage on a TE, with Lee and LVE playing the traditional LB roles. Particularly given our lack of a strong SS.

Lee looked poor last year. I don't know if done or injured. But a healthy Lee, who maybe lost a step, with LVE and Jaylon in our base, sounds like some awesome run defense. He'd be great depth, and irreplaceable coaching for LVE and Jaylon, on and off the field.

There's just so much upside, and the downside risk can be limited by reworking the contract to make it snap based.

Awesome until Lee got hurt when a small breeze blew onto the field.

Tank drafted 34th, Taco 28th. 6 whole picks.

Gallup was a 3rd rounder and he is already better than Dez was his entire last three years.
Gallup - 33 receptions, 2 TD in 16 games
Dez - average over last 3 years - 50 receptions, 5.6 TD in 12.6 games

A lot of wrong in that post Sir.

I think you're overvaluing Gallup.

It does seem strange that every player up for a new contract is supposedly worthy of being amongst the highest paid players at their respective positions yet somehow we aren't a dominant team.
What’s that tell you.

I really would like to see Dallas take care of the guys whos contract is up. Nobody is giving some big discount anymore to sign early. They DO NOT need to address Dak, Zeke or Jaylons contract.
Right now two guys that Dallas really needs to try and get a deal done and thats Amari and Lawrence! I would still try to keep Byron too!
