I'm probably not gonna lose any sleep over it. But it does bug me to see guys ripping on a young man who appears to be self-medicating (or at the very least is in the grips of an addiction). Of all the ugly qualities in humanity, lack of empathy is among the worst. It is, in fact, the hallmark of the psychopath.

I was in Gregory's corner last summer once I learned his problems with substance abuse stemmed from mental health issues. The latter was beyond his control and I made the assumption he simply dealt with it in a bad manner.

But it's time for the Cowboys to move on. His problems clearly run deeper than they can handle. This league is about winning games, not coddling troubled people. I'm trying not to sound too insensitive to Gregory's situation, but his career is over.

I just hope whatever is going on with him doesn't ruin his life. It's a shame so much talent is going to waste. He hardly played last year and had six sacks. Just sad.
