The Cowboys have been criticized over the years for almost everything. Most of it has at least some level of merit. Quite honestly, over the past 5 years the Cowboys have remedied most of the negative things that have been holding them back.

The exception to that rule is hanging on to fan favorite "good guys" like Sean Lee, Jason Wooten, Dez Bryant and others. I thought we had finally turned the corner on that when the Cowboys made the tough call to move on from Romo and Dez.

If we bring Witten back for $5m per year that is a strong indication that the Cowboys are back to their old way of doing business and have no plan, nor serious desire to improve and win. This smells of jersey sales and that's it.

We might as well give Sean Lee a 5 year extension and pay him top 5 money too while we are at it. I'm seriously disappointed in the organization over this.

It’s not like his game was ever built on speed. Having a year off he could be fresh for one more run. He is a great security blanket and red zone threat. Old Man Witten is also a great asset in the run blocking game. I believe he will help coach up the other TEs and not take all the snaps this last ride.

Weren’t some talking about a old TE coming here but got hurt a lot.

Now we have one that never gets hurt and knows the scheme. He gets open. And we have Moore to use him. Very familiar surroundings for all. This may work on a limited basis. He cannot be a 3 down player anymore. Neither can Sean Lee. Use them both in a coaching capacity also.

Our fans always overact but they'll calm down and see the sun still shines .......lol

Typical Dallas Cowboys move. Bringing back an old TE who is way past his prime and a year off from playing? Embarrassing. He adds zero value to this offense. But so glad we have those 3 yard outs and fall down at our disposal. Heaven forbid we actually move on and find a TE who can go down the field.

Mediocre franchises make these kind of moves.

Progress stopper
Wow! Progress stopper?? Seriously? Who is he going to bump aside Jarwin? Swaim? One's a FA the other had one good game and if you have listened to any of our so-called experts on the site they have all indicated we need a TE in the draft. I'd play him day one. Down one. Can you say down the seam? Let's go Wit!!

We need a solid red zone threat which he can be.

I don’t think he gets the same snaps he is accustomed to.

So we paid him that much to be a part time player? Awesome!

So we won’t spend like 2MM on a player that can still play like a Tre Boston.

But spend 5MM on a guy who is at the end of his career.

"At the end"? We're talking past the end at this point. But sure, just throw $5 million at him to avoid any hurt feelings and set the Delorean to 2006!

As long as everybody's "comfortable" before it all goes to hell.

Some athletes just don’t know when it’s over. Saw he signed a one year deal for 5 mil.

I think this is a mistake and it reflects the FOs weakness for a sweet headline. Maybe it’s Garrett being desperate to get the “band together again”.

Yeah I though the young'uns were starting to look pretty decent towards the end of the season. Unless Witt is going to be there for coaching mostly I don;t see the benefit. never liked being a yard short on 3rd down 70% of the time..

Replacing Swaim's snaps with Witten while rotating Schultz and Jarwin is a net win. So long as we don't try to use him like we did in the past (i.e., 100% of the snaps), this can be a real addition

Sure.

But they are paying him starting TE money.
