I think the people who hate this decision are being shortsighted.

Future HOF TE Jason Witten coming back to provide veteran leadership and positional strategy for our young guys is a big bonus. He could still run the Y-option effectively and could still get open during critical moments a couple seasons ago. He's in great shape. I doubt his production will fall off at all. I bet it even goes up. He's always been able to beat his guy without speed. He doesn't need it.

He's also our best blocking TE. With a rejuvenated O-line and now Wit, just watch Zeke go.

That said, I think he should accept much less than 5 mil if he really wants a crack at a ring. Maybe half that. It's going to put the team in a money bind otherwise.

Witten might not be good enough to make the roster anymore. Bet Frederick could beat Witten in the 40 yard dash today.
He could have his rookie year
Witten has always been slow
But hopefully he can teach Schultz and jarwin to run routes and use his body to block guys out
Witten knows how to get open with the best of them. I’d rather have him on the staff myself than the field

If Frederick could get open as Witten does then we would move him to TE but since he can't we won't. Speed has never been an overall trade mark of Witten, people keep talking speed but the fact is the man knows how to get open. Teams have used CB, LB and safeties and yet Witten still manages to get open and make the catch. His 8.9 per catch in 2017 shows he is more than a 4 yard guy as one genius around here claimed.

Exactly. witten should be the TE coach. make Jarwin and Schultz into mini wittens.

So, you think there is no chance that what we saw from Jarwin and Schultz the last 4-5 weeks of the season is real, and that signing Witten is just a bridge move to provide depth and support while they are developing?[/QUOTE

I think they may draft a TE in a rich class regardless, perhaps not at 58.

Methinks he should probably start running around those malls, if he hasn't already.
