That doesn't bother me as much as he's hoping to be NFL highest paid safety. It's interesting if you remove Berry's contract, the highest paid is well below $10M. Either way, the market will have a ton of avail free agents. Maybe the best way to go and forget ET........

EARL THOMASDB, SEATTLE SEAHAWKS

The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports free agent Earl Thomas has "no interest" in giving the Cowboys a hometown discount.
Thomas has been stumping to play for his home-state team for years, but he wants to be properly compensated to do so. That is probably especially true after last year's injury debacle. Per reporter Clarence Hill, Thomas currently maintains hope of becoming the "highest paid safety in the NFL." That could be tough seeing as he's going on 30 and coming off major injury. Eric Berry maintains current honors at $13 million per year.

Good for him. Hopefully he gets $10-$12MM/yr in a 3 to 4yr deal. One that front loads cash in the first couple seasons so Dallas can get out of the last year or two should he be injured a great deal or his play declines.

No player, and I mean no player, is going to publicly and openly say they're available on the cheap. That's bad business on their part.

I can understand if it was a player like Manziel, Ray Rice, or even TO (who has alluded to coming back), but not Earl Thomas.

Very nervous about that injury and his projected performance. He was great until that injury, I doubt he gets close to that in 2019. And there are cheaper upgrades

He's broken it twice now I believe, also I doubt he will be able to play out the massive extension he wants. This is exactly the kind of contract I would hope the new fiscally responsible Cowboys would avoid but I doubt they will.

Might be a blessing in disguise. There have been low cost quality FA Safeties the past couple years, we just have not moved on them. ET would be great but I do like the idea of spending the big money on keeping our own.

Not interested in giving a hometown gift to a 30+ player who has been injured more than he has played the last 2 years. ET, I wish you continued success in this league and hope someone pays you for what you think you are worth.

It's no secret that Earl Thomas is entering the twilight of his career and has already expressed his desire to go into the sunset with a boatload of cash to wallow in. The Cowboys, on the other hand, are a team in the midst of a former spending spree that is currently demanding more bang for the buck.

These two candidates for a mutually agreeable contract are in stark contrast to one another's foremost desires. It just seems a highly unlikely alliance. To complicate matters even more, ET is coming off a leg injury that has already occurred twice to the same leg. H-m-m.

Despite his claim not to be conservative lately, is Stephen otherwise inclined to become radically generous with the likes of Earl Thomas? Anything can happen but there's always a limit, especially with respect to a frugal man's generosity. ;)

If that's true it's the 2nd leg injury he's off my list regardless.

If the Cowboys are going to move on from every NFL player that has a #1 interest of $ then they might as well close up shop and get into a different business. Of course the vast majority of players are interested in $ 1st.

True but he's also coming off a major injury. No way to overlook the risk......
