He won’t have but 1 choice. Sign them or don’t. It’s market prices. The deals are found in mid level players and players that haven’t yet or that are about to make it to top tier. The best of the best are gonna get paid wherever they go. So we pay them or someone else does.

If D-Law was a little better or less injured we would have already paid him like the others.

It would be a matter of being cheap if the salary cap did not exist and one of the world's wealthiest owners in team sports low balled his players. Nope. It is about cap management. In my opinion, the better question would be Is there a trophy for coddling the salary cap?

It is interesting. How they handle the DLaw deal with set a precedence for Dak, Zeke, Cooper, Jaylon, and LVE. Dallas can't afford to let Tank roll them for a mega contract. But I think they will. I think the Jerry has so much money that he just doesn't care.

As of now, it's a blinking game with D-Law. Right now, it's not like Houston, Kansas or Atlanta have paid their young DLmen already and we are still trying to lowball Tank.

They shouldn't hand massive team killing deals to tank or Thomas or Dak for that matter. I stead trade them, let them walk, whatever, but use that money to aquire 2-3 guys that can help instead of 1.

It's why timing is everything. If it was me, I'm pulling the trigger on Zeke and DLaw NOW and quietly take care Dak sometime before the season ends. But getting Zeke and DLaw done now gives us options OUT of both contracts after three years, just in time to take care of Jaylon and LVE.

The combine used to end 48 hours (or so) out from the start of free agency. And that meant deals were being agreed to here, and teams would go home, draw up the paperwork and sign players when the clock struck midnight on the new league year (back when it actually started at midnight). Now the combine ends nine days before free agency starts. And teams have the tampering period to drill down numbers. That’s made it tough for teams and agents to get to real numbers in Indy—deadlines make deals, and the combine isn’t close enough to the deadline anymore. So what’s the upshot of all these meetings over the course of the combine? Agents leave here knowing what sort of interest teams have in their free agents, and where those players might be on their priority list, which lets them know whom to call over the week to follow.

The Jerry Stephen dynamic reminds me of the George Hank dynamic of the Yankees. George was a spend until it works kinda guy. Then Hank comes along and sticks to a spend less approach. The difference is the Yankees do sign quality FAs responsibly while we sign guys off the scrap heap.
