Again , no one knows if they low balled tank. His agent hinted they did but that's what agent's do. Plus, what is a low ball offer to him? We don't know what he wants. If he's asking for Mack or Donald money, then what he should get which is Jones type money, 5yr, 100m and 60m guaranteed, which would make him the highest paid DE, would be a low ball offer in his eyes. But to me, that's tank and his agent highly over valuing him.

I don't blame them for not being in the Thomas market if the 15m reported is true. Collins is more of a in the box S and is bad in coverage so he wouldn't make us better at anything we need to be better at. Weddle is a nice player and I don't know what his price would be, but at this stage in his career, is he that much better or even better than woods? I know most hate Heath and will say hes better than heath but that's not who's spot he would be playing.

FA is a week out of starting and people are already freaking out. Lol good times.

DLaw aint getting 20 mil per from Dallas, period. We have other needs too. Safety is a bigger need than we realize.Its been over 20 years since we have had a stud at safety. It shows. That said, Im not paying Earl Thomas 15 mil per year. I can't fault Stevie Jones for not budging. Its a real catch 22. In the end, we find a stud safety in the draft and another in free agency.Let the best man win in camp. DLaw will either play under the tag or be traded I feel.

20m a year is fine if it's something like 3 years, maybe 4. But not if it's a Mack-like contract, 6 years with 15m per year guaranteed. I think the Bears made a mistake with Mack, but there is at least a little rationalization. Mack has missed only 2 games in his 5 years and that was this year with a ankle injury. DLaw has missed 16 games in his 5 years, some due to a back injury that required surgery. IMO, there is way more likelihood Mack plays out his 6 years at a high level than DLaw would.

Bottom line for me is, I'd love to keep DLaw, but if his representation team wants a Mack contract, I do what the Raiders did.

To be fair, there seems to be a movement in the NFL away from paying running backs and receivers big money.

With the college offenses taking over, it doesn't really require big time receivers to run quick outs, ins, and bubble screens.

Same for defensive ends. The ball comes out so quickly, it's better to spend money on Aaron Donald than Khalil Mack these days.

Smart move by Jones. Resigning a bunch of guys who will ultimately prove not to be good enough to compete at the highest level, would not be sound.

The Jerry Stephen dynamic reminds me of the George Hank dynamic of the Yankees. George was a spend until it works kinda guy. Then Hank comes along and sticks to a spend less approach. The difference is the Yankees do sign quality FAs responsibly while we sign guys off the scrap heap.

I think so too, but not in the way that some want to frame this issue. I think the Cowboys would like to retain most of their top free agents (maybe other than Beasley) but want to be fiscally repsonsible in doing it.

If they just throw money out the window then I think Jerry is reasserting his authority. If not, well maybe we are staying the course.

If we pay everyone pretty much what they want to keep them and don't make any hard decisions, I think we have just thrown 5 years of progress out the window.

My best guess is Tank is the number one guy on this list for them to sign. They will try hard to get him signed, he will want Mack money and the Cowboys won't want to pay that to him and they probably won't budge.

He's worth about $17 million per year tops and I think they will offer him a little more average to keep him (maybe $18.5 million). If he doesn't take that they trade him. I think that decision happens by about March 15 and if no deal is in place they will start trying to trade him. That decision will be made fairly early for several reasons 1. He needs surgery 2. Need to get a deal done for picks from THIS draft 3. Need to get a deal done before free agent money dries up.

After that move has been decided (not necessarily made) the Cowboys will start addressing the remaining free agents. Cooper will be high on that list because 1. He's a priority free agent and 2.!resigning him helps free up current cap room.

I don't think Beasley resigns. He has been too much of a malcontent over the past couple of years and I think although he hasn't burned his bridge down with the Cowboys he has doused it with lighter fluid and the Cowboys will be looking to move on from him.

The salaries are increasing at an alarming rate and there's another CBA around the corner and there is not anyone that doesn't think there's going to be a prolonged battle.

There is nothing wrong with a % of the cap limit by position that increases proportionately with the cap each season. The money would be good just based on the size of the cap which hit 188M this season. And none of these upstart pro football leagues could compete with the salary structure of the NFL. They need to impose their own limits.

is Stephen cheap or are players greedy? yesterday, today, and tomorrow, it's always about the money. demands for more money and perks caused the demise of television manufacturing giants rca, admiral, Curtis-mathis, zenith, Westinghouse, phillips, et. al. and will soon do the same to football. can't blame the employees for wanting more. can't blame the owners for wanting to keep as much as possible.

I doubt there's any collusion. Won't say there's not, but they really can't afford to get caught doing so. The plausible explanation is each doesn't want to be the one that moves first to set the market. The moment one of the DL that were franchise tagged reaches a deal, the others will follow in relatively short order UNLESS the team doesn't want to pay that for their player. But you'll have a Kahlil Mack situation if that happens with most likely the same result - a trade to a team that is willing to pay the "market" rate for the player.

I like the % of cap by position idea. In a way, that's like the rookie/draft wage scale which HAD to be implemented.

I have more confidence in Stephen than Jerrah to get it right.

With Jerrah I worry more about whether he has taken his meds and eaten lunch or not..

before he makes any major decisions.

Not sure collins wants to sign for 8 million. The giants couldn't get a deal done and didn't want to use the tag on him. But i'd absolutely pickup zeked 5th option and draft a replacement.

Oh I know he wouldn't. I'm guessing 12-13m? Same goes for another high priced FA. Combine them and we're paying 5-8 mil more than we'd pay Tank alone. That's what I meant.
