Just my take....but I think Zeke and his agent are warning the Cowboys. He's taking care of business this season, but 2020?

Should Ezekiel Elliott hold out for a new deal?
Posted by Mike Florio on March 18, 2019, 11:00 PM EDT
With all the talk of all the Cowboys players who soon will be getting new deals, the one guy who gets mentioned the least is running back Ezekiel Elliott. Given the wear and tear inherent to position that he plays, it’s hard not to wonder whether the Cowboys would like to chew up all five years of his rookie contract and possibly tag him once before moving on.

I believe if you’re the Cowboys and you want Zeke still on this team 3 years from now, the cheapest and most reasonable time to extend him is right now.

Give him a 4 year deal today, he’s 28 at the end of his contract and likely past his prime.

If you’d stretch this out, you’re either giving him a contract into his 30s or you’re going to pay nearly as much when you factor in the fifth year option and a probable franchise tag.

SJ said they would be paying him. But likel said it so he will play out his rookie deal. They will have big money next year and will likely extend him or sign new contract for 4 years. Elliot won’t play under the tag.

+1 ....100% convinced no way he plays under tag WITHOUT some form of hold out.

We should never give Zeke big money. Ride him for his rookie contract then cut him loose and draft the next one. As good as he is, he won't be worth having in 3 years. It's a position that is never worth a big expense.

Might be smart to extend him now but after wha we did with murray I wonder if they value the position enough. Elliot is a special player so they might lock him up for a additional 3 years.

Don’t get held hostage by a TB.

That would be idiotic. Call his bluff.

The Cowboys have control of the situation for two more years at a minimum. If Elliott wants to hold out, he can effectively retire.

This is Florio's agenda on full display - again. He actually still wants people to believe that Le'veon Bell didn't screw himself too when he held out for an entire year and lost nearly $15 million.

To me you extend now so you can get out at 28, or you let him play out
Zeke is a great back but the miles are gonna get up there fast

Love Zeke and think this is media driven
Don’t blame players for wanting to get paid at all, but bugs the crap out of me when a player talks about getting paid when he has years left on the deal he agreed to
After you’ve played 4 years talk to the team about extension, of that doesn’t work out play the 5th year you agreed to and hit the market
I get why players, especially RB’s hate the tag but these players have no one to blame but themselves
They agreed to give teams the 5th year option, the franchise tag, the control over discipline

He's more of the offense than Dak is by far. It's a matter of principle to extend Zeke if you're going to extend Dak. Every coach, d coordinator, o coordinator and sports caster knows that Zeke is the offense. That's just disrespect.

Cowboys history of doing contracts with their franchised RBs is not a friendly one ( Emmitt Smith and DeMarco Murray).

Extending both at this time would be foolish.
