WRONGO! Here's your proof. If cut anytime after the Cowboys exercised the 2019 option it will cost them the 1.25 mil signing bonus for exercising that option. Read the dead money part for 2019!!!!!!!

https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/dallas-cowboys/allen-hurns-14929/

.

Thanks for proving you don't know what Dead Money is. Its money already paid to the player that hasn't counted against the cap, in this case is half his 2.5 Million signing bonus that was spread over two years. Which is what I said in the first place.

Do your homework next time.

"Where I've been" is actually watching the games. Beasley never got doubled until the last part of 2017 when Dez dropped off. Beasley was never doubled in the first five years of his career.

Oh so when the rest of the league finally figured out that Beasley need to be double covered it doesn't count? I'm so glad you have zero to do with the Cowboys front office.

Your GM abilities are just as good as your salary cap knowledge.

Which is just as good as Cole Beasley's ability to play in the NBA.

Hey less than a brianiac. As soon as that option was signed the Cowboys were on the hook for that 1.25 mil signing bonus. If they didn't exercise that option they would still be on the hook for that 1.25 mil. YOU WERE THE ONE that originally said that the Cowboys could sign that option and keep him around as insurance and they could cut him before the season started and not cost they anything and I corrected you on that.

I'll quote you "You can cut Hurns right up until the last day of camp without having his contract count against the cap. Keep him through training camp as insurance against one of the others getting injured."

Look up the term "dead money". Then read it several times. Then have someone else read it to you several times.

If they cut him, they don't owe him the salary on his contract. They already paid him his signing bonus. You are the only person over the age of 10 that I have to explain this to.

This is intended to be a polite response.

That's not how it works in regards to your post about dead-money.

If you need cap clarifications @Nightman is a great resource.

Also @Kaiser is one of the best and most reasonable posters here. He does not spew nonsense like many posters. Historically his opinions are accurate the vast majority of the time.

I also consider myself to have extensive cap knowledge; although I don't spend as much time studying the small changes that occur from year to year as I did in the past.

Doesn't have to be already paid. To be dead money. Just has to be guaranteed. For instance if you cut a player after his salary for that year was guaranteed. Not paid out yet but dead money if cut.

Hey less than a brainiac. Contract 101. If a bonus is paid and spread over the life of the contract, this one was 2 years, the last year or 2019, portion of the bonus if the player (Hurns) gets cut prior to the start of the season becomes DEAD MONEY. So contrary to what you originally said that it won't cost the Cowboys anything if they kept Hurns around for training camp in case of injury is WRONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Take your own suggestion and reread the contract several times and then have someone else read it and then have them explain it to you.

You need to reread that contract because it CLEARLY states if cut there is 1.25 mil in dead money and that is the 2019 portion of his signing bonus that was already paid to him. I appreciate that you were being polite, but this time I believe I'm right.

The bonus of 2.5MM has already been paid. As a two year contract the charge against the salary cap is spread over the 2 years, so 2018 has a cap charge of 1.25 Million and 2019 is the other 1.25 Million.

The cap charge of 1.25 Million gets charged against the 2019 cap no matter what, it was there the minute Hurns signed his contract last year.

So if we cut Hurns at the end of camp, we don't pay him anything because his 2019 salary isn't guaranteed. We don't pay him a new check for 1.25 Million, the cap charge we take (no matter what) from the 2.5 MM Signing Bonus is just called dead money instead of bonus money for a current player.

Gee did someone finally explain that to you. YEA! Again your statement that it wouldn't cost the Cowboys anything if the kept Hurns during training camp is wrong! There's that dead money that will count which is what i originally said.

It doesn't cost anything this year because the money was already paid last year. Do you really not understand that?

“Dead money” is paid regardless of whether he is cut now or in training camp. That’s why It’s called “dead money” - because a team can’t get out of it. The amount of “dead money” in a season only refers to how much of it counts against the cap that season.
