It’s so hard to tell with most of these players. Some translate to the pros and some don’t. Most in the first and even second rounds look like they would have little or no problems.

I think people are being a bit too tough on Taco.

The way that Dallas plays its line is in a rotation. If you have noticed Taco plays way better when given 2-3 straight plays instead of one here and there. He comes off as someone that gets better with chances. He has shown some flashes of what he can be, but I think a lot of his progress has been stunted due to rotation the Cowboys play.

Give him more reps and see what he can do. I think it is way too early to call a 24 year old 6"6 DE a bust when it comes to the NFL. If we were able to live with players like Spears, giving him a chance. We definitely can give Taco another year or two to see if he develops. The raw skill is there.

McClay really liked TJ that year. The coaches (Rod) thought Taco would be a better fit because he played with his hand in the dirt in college, whereas Watt was more of a projection since he mostly rushed the passer while standing.

Imagine where this defense would be if we had Watt at RE. Rod gotta go.

Is this fact or just Broaduss' opinion. And he is as bad as some on here, keep on bringing it up rather fact or fiction.

Be careful with being logical and truthful. Many don't like it on here.
They will not know what to do other than respond with their same stuff, but yet can't give any sound reasons.
They have canned responses only. :lmao:

And yet, here we are today looking to trade for and pay big money to 257lb Robert Quinn to man the position? Funny how that works, isn't it?

I've wondered about that with Quinn, but I also think there is a difference between players. For example, Vonn Miller is 250 lbs, and he is a great pass rushing OLB who can move around. but wouldn't be a hand in the ground, stand your ground at the point of attack against a huge OT kind of guy. DeMarcus Ware was only 8 lbs heavier, but played much bigger and stronger than Miller was better able to go toe to toe with an OT as an anchor against the run. I think Watt is more like Miller. I really don't know about Quinn.

I make it a point not to quibble about weight, especially when it ends up being ten pounds or less. Anyone who does that ends up looking foolish. Especially when their favorite team gladly drafted and employed a guy who weighed 235 lbs for the role.

Taco Charlton is what happens when you draft for need over best player available.

Point taken, but I will add that he was projected first round by pretty much everyone, though. It not like the Cowboys were over-drafting him.

I look for Charlton to have a big year in 2019. After all, it’s hard to keep a good Taco down.

Thanks a lot Rod. He may be a good coach but I swear he never thinks anyone is good enough to fight for and here we had an opportunity yet he fought for the wrong damn guy.

The larger question is why does Rod Marinelli have a job after his defensive line got shredded against the Rams?

We kept the worst OC in the game much longer than we should have, so I guess it doesn't surprise me Jerry doesn't want to let go of old man Marinelli. He's probably heartbroken over Linehan...couldn't handle letting two family members go.

It's always retreads and late round picks. "Orphans", so the old man can keep his reputation as some "miracle worker".

Did anyone see any "miracles" during that Rams playoff game?

I didn't...

Why does Richard?

Richard isn't the Defensive Co-ordinator nor is he the guy in charge of the Defensive line. That was Rod Marinelli. Richard has only been with the Cowboys a year. This is Rods defense. You may want to hate on Richard and personally I have no idea if he is capable or not because he was asked to work in the confines of Marinelli's defensive structure. Also as far as I can see the secondary which was Richards responsibility played well last year and in fact wasn't the weak part of the defensive team.

If you saw the video when they made the selection Jerry emphasizes to Taco how much Garrett wanted him and how hard he was campaigning for him.

I've never heard Jerry say that to another player.

Who knows what goes on in that circus of a war room.
Taco will have 12 sacks this coming season.

Weight is a factor, but not a stand alone factor. Strength, speed, quickness, body style etc all play a part as well.

And the truly amazing part about the Linehan situation was after setting franchise records for offensive futility in 2017, the team brain trust decided it would be a good idea to give Linehan even more power and decision-making ability. And to the surprise of no one outside the building, the results got even worse.
